    In the new episode, we're going to tell you about Soviet and Russian missile boat Tambovskiy Komsomolets.
    In the 1980s, the Soviet Navy was reinforced with the R-47 missile boat, also known as Tambovskiy Komsomolets.
    Her supersonic anti-ship missiles could easily destroy a battleship. Today, Tambovskiy Komsomolets is a museum ship moored in a permanent berth at Kronstadt, but almost twenty ships of this project are still serving in the Russian Navy.

    Ok. First of all: these kind of ships are pretty cool and quite capable in modern navies.
    That being said, there is nothing legendary about it. This is "Naval Legends", a series where you showcase vessels that are or were relevant in naval history or had a tangible story that made them "legends" in popular culture or for naval enthusiasts.
    This ship could have been part of a separe video series called "sea warriors of the world" or someting like that and everyone would have been cool with it.
    You have to face it people. The only russian ships that I can remember from the top of my mind that could be considered "Naval Legends" are the soviet BBs of the Marat-class. They played a roll in the coastal defenses of cities like Leningrad in WWII.
    Alsl the Aurora because it wasa ship that participated in the famous battle of Tsushima. That ship is famous as well for being the place where the russian revolution started.
    I'm sure there arw some other ships mainly from early 20th century that can be considered "Naval Legends" by their own right.
    Now that I think about it, you wanna make a video about modern legendary russian ships? Make a video about the Kirov-class cruisers (the gun ships of WWII) and compare them with the Kirov-class nuclear battlecruisers that russia still have today.
    Stop making "Naval Legends" videos about ships that do not have a story or a background historically important enough to qualify as "Naval Legends"
    Thank you.

With it getting easier and easier to counter torpedos and missiles, it won't be long and it will be near impossible to get through a ships anti missile or torpedo defenses. And the one thing you can't counter is a 16" shell smacking into your boat, rocking the whole crew.

      Maybe not battleships. I think some sort of heavy / large / battlecruisers just because of economic reasons. We don't make thicc boi armor, guns, and ammunition anymore. As for the guns, maybe we'll have either railguns or a naval version of the 1000 mile cannon the US Army is developing, possibly fitted out with an autoloader. Maybe a 2 foward turrets (twin, maybe triple) and vertical missile launchers and a helicopter hangar where 2 aft turrets should be? Maybe add an unbelievable amount of anti air and ciws.

    I have a question, why do they keep referring to CIWS (Close In Weapon System) as Anti Aircraft Defenses/Artillery? Nit pick aside I would love to see a video on that Sovremmeny-class DDG that was sitting beside the Missile boat. Also so we are just going to ignore the RGM-84 Harpoon that was also fitted to the Iowa-class? Now i like learning about modern hulls from different navies but the ammount of hand waiving in the video was a little too noticable. While yes a massed attack would sink any ship regardless of her class/size/protection, no admiral worth his/her stars is going to sail a High value Unit into the teeth of the enemy without a sufficient escort. Anyway, hoping for a video of the Sovremmeny-class DDG, The Slava-class CG, and the largest Surface Combatant afloat today (BAR NONE) The Kirov-class Battlecruiser. Now if you want an actual titan that could get into a tussle with a Battleship, Kirov-class or bust.

  • @lightspeedvictory
    @lightspeedvictory 3 года назад +15

    Once again, Russian propaganda makes its way into these videos. Modern anti-ship missiles have been equated in terms of firepower to that of an 8 inch (203mm) naval rifle. An Iowa class BB was designed from the outset to withstand hits from 16 inch (406mm) naval rifles.the notion that a single Sunburn missile could take out an Iowa (or at the very least disable it) by hitting certain parts of the ship is absolutely ludicrous! Furthermore, you downplay the abilities of the Phalanx CIWS system, and by extension, the missile defenses of an Iowa as a whole. First off, as stated, each Iowa would be escorted by air defense ships at the very least. U.S. Navy doctrine regarding the Iowa’s was if they weren’t part of a carrier battle group, they were escorted by 2 air defense ships and one anti-submarine ship (and what’s with using F-15 Eagles and WW II configured Essex class carriers to represent a carrier battle group?! Please use proper representations!). Second, each Iowa was outfitted with 4 Phalanx, multiple decoy launchers, and the SLQ-32 electronic warfare system for defense (there were plans in place to install 2 octuple Sea Sparrow launchers in the mid-90’s but obviously this never happened so consider this a side note). Furthermore, the minimum detection range of low flying aircraft and cruise missiles was between 18 miles (30 km) to 56 miles (90 km). Good luck in hitting them in the first place! Also, the Iowa’s were equipped with Harpoon anti-ship missiles, not just Tomahawks.
