Skye Quinn okay I will definitely look into that! I heard that Armie Hammer is the voice in the audiobook so that would be cool to listen to. Ahhh this movie is just so hauntingly beautiful i love it so much
I smiled for almost the entire duration of this. What a beautiful team. So intelligent, so articulate, so funny. I’m bummed we never hear the actor who played the mom, though! She was STUNNING and brilliant.
Thank you, you've made my day! Amira Casar is wonderful, always present somewhere, pushing the story forward: she aks Elio if he likes Oliver, she has already asked Oliver the same question, she bring up the 'speak or die' question, she invites Marzia and Chiara for dinner, and whatever she tells them, next thing we know is that Marzia knows everything and wants to keep Elio's friendship 'for life'. She has no speech, but she picks Elio up from the station and doesn't make a fuss, driving leisurely with a cigarette on the wheel and stroking Elio's hair with the other, while he cries his eyes out. Every detail a small jewel.

Armie is so classy. The way he talks and tells stories, it's like he's used to high-end gatherings and parties (not that this is a high-end gathering). If he were British, I'd guess he came from a line of Dukes or Lords, and wanted to delve in the world of acting.
@@LoostycHis lineage is that of the owner of Arm & Hammer detergent & other products. I saw a vid where it said that he grew up, studied at the Cayman Islands.
Timothee- as Armie puts it, "your unguarded reaction to the things" and that infectious smile that you carry with you is what makes you a very special person. That aura that exudes in you is quite rare and people feel that.I must say it is infectious. Please don't ever change where ever or whatever you may become in this rollercoaster of life... Just be yourself, people will support your movie no doubt about that
Considering that you wrote this comment 3 years ago this is going to sound weird. But thank you and I don't say this as Timothee but as someone who identifies with who he appears to be. And I believe that the other 47 people who liked it also thank you, even if only indirectly. So I just have to thank you for making people feel that they feel different from the rest at home because of those characteristics you described
I have listened to Armie read the novel and watched the movie in the theatre 11times...I just can’t get enough of everything about this story-elio & Oliver..timothee and armie..Italy landscape..the beauty of the story and the characters as they unfold..the unconditional love of the parents and the joys and sorrow of first love..sultry film...It’s as though they do such a beautiful job of inhabiting their characters and you feel as though their brilliant acting abilities bring those characters from the book into real life with such genuineness - I can’t wait for the sequel. I find some something different each time that I love when I watch it over and over again. Nothings ever hit me like this beautiful story as it unfolds on camera. Love all of these men! Luca is brilliant with his directing and I love how he chooses his cast...especially how he feels that if he likes their fit, they will all blend together perfect. You feel like you are right there in the scene somewhere in the corner watching it all unfold...gives me hope for love again.☮️❤️
omg ! 11 times ! wow !! i wish i could’ve gotten to see the movie in theatres when it was out .. i’m not a movie watcher so i had no idea what the film was about until literally 3 weeks ago so i watched it on youtube and now it’s my favourite movie ever ! i will be listening to armie do the audiobook as well but i better wait because not sure i can handle the emotion that it’s gonna cause .. but yes ! i love these boys so much too !
Michael talking about his father has me in tears every time I watch this. This entire conversation is mind altering, truly. Especially for a writer and an editor and a cinema fanatic like me, I can't tell you how inspired I am by the beautiful existence of this gathering. And, I have to say, I really don't understand why everyone laughs when it comes to the peach, sex is terrifying, exposure is terrifying, that kind of intimate touch is terrifying, and it doesn't matter if it's your first or your tenth time, fully connecting with someone that you love and long for and breaking down the final walls with THEM is a hard thing to process, so no, I don't think the peach scene is funny at all, I think it's a smart way to learn, and most of all I think it's very legitimate.
Magnifique,
wow just wow the speech of Armie at the end of this interview when he talked about Oliver's charakter and the book... wow he is just so wellspoken and sensitive and eloquent (and freaking handsome) i can't...... awesome interview!
The *“later”* doesn’t really come from an over abundance of self assurance or confidence where he’s like “Alright I’m done with this conversation, later” It’s less that and more like *“It’s just the TWO of us, and we’re talking and I’m feeling something that I don’t understand, and that makes me a little bit uncomfortable- and I don’t know exactly what kind of effect you’re having on me but* *I am uncomfortable so I’m out later.”* And it’s more of THAT- 33:26
AbbsolutelyNot One of the most fascinating aspects of this conversation. Oliver was such a mysterious and complicated character. In my opinion, he could never fully come to terms with being in love with Elio-he justified his own decision to live a parallel life because, for all his bravado, charisma, and being okay with everything, he was not content with himself and that is equally heartbreaking.
I work in a charity book shop on Sundays. The DVD came into the shop as a donation. I put some money in the box and brought the film home. Since that Sunday I can't stop playing it or watching the actors in various interviews. And the final scene brings the tears flowing every time. Timothee with great modesty, said it was his training and the music track. I think it was much much more. I remember a great english actress being asked the question, from whence came all that emotion, "Something deep inside you that cannot be explained". I think he experienced "that which cannot be explained" Timothee has a glittering career ahead of him but perhaps he will never play another part like Elio. A beautiful film in so may ways, unique and yes, very special. CMBYN2? No, Let this wonderful love-affair end with us wondering, Did they ever meet up again? Elio and Oliver?
Luca is brillant, hammer is such a prince charming n excellent Narrator, Michael Stuhlbarg reminds me of Joaquin phoenix for some reason & Timothée is so shy n cute
This was the best Q&A I've ever seen. The cast and Luca: such thoughtful and eloquent and at times funny answers too. You can see their love for this movie and the process of making it. I actually had a tear in my eye afterwards, that's how much I loved this.
I'll forever be grateful for Luca directing the movie. Ivory would have done a very different one with different cast (I was shocked he wanted Shia LaBeouf as Oliver, I still can't get my head around that) and crew, different music, different locations, and countless different choices (narration, various scenes different, more Chiara, less mother, no French, etc.). I'm sure it still would have been an okay movie, but...
Usually I’m more insightful of Timothée’s words but really coming back to this I see the fluid emotion from all of them. The words of Michael Stuhlbarg are so beautiful, literally everyone goes silent and claps at the end of his words. Not to mention Armie’s words on his perspective on the more specific, ‘later’, he agrees that later was not of arrogance but a way of uncertainty of ones feelings, though the only thing I can add is that later is a form of saying ‘till I fathom’ or ‘till I figure it out’ in that sense.
Those four men are some of my favorite people in the world. The way they articulate their thoughts, the true respect they have for each other and everyone in the room, down to the way they carry themselves and their individual mannerisms. I love all of them endlessly, and this interview
Whenever I make a comment on these youtube interview and review pages I feel I just reiterate what I have said before (Much like the artists who have been criticised for telling the same stories over and over again. Not surprising when they are asked the same questions). But two things occur to me now. Firstly, the sense of humour of both Timothée and Armie. I want Armie as my best friend please - well, maybe my second best. Secondly, these 4 show erudition, education, sensitivity and all those traits I find attractive. It is tempting to say it can't be because they work with words, as most current scripts leave much to be desired in language use, but then maybe that is why Luca chose them, knowing they have the skills to work with this material. Whatever the reason, I love hearing them speak, both informally when joking, and in situations like this interview where their intelligence shines through.
Luca, for sure, already watched works the 3 had done & decided they all have in them the kind of artists who will “carry” his movie to how/where he wants to be without much prodding/directing from him. And he was right!
Wow, how good is a mixture of cultures, knowledge comes thought them, when smart people are together in the masterpiece like this movie, beware they can play with your mind and heart.
I thought I was in love with only Timmy, but now i seem to be falling a little for Luca. He’s so interesting and nice, i’d love to have a conversation with him.

I wish people hadn't clapped, I wanted to hear what else Michael was going to say. He is very reserved in interviews, but when he speaks it is powerful and so emotive. I wish we heard more of his thoughts. It's also... interesting that Armie didn't say anything about his dad, other than his initial reaction... Based on things being made public now and the history of the Hammer family, I think he needs to read John Bradshaw's "Healing the Shame that Binds Us." We can all benefit from that book, but when someone behaves in the way Armie is being accused of, you know that is some serious shame-based trauma both generational and personal that he is playing out. That is not an excuse for him, if you know what I am talking about you will understand. If you don't, you should read the book. That aside, this is a wonderful interview for them all, I would have watched another hour with these sorts of questions and these sorts of discussions with them. This movie has moved me unlike any other. I would watch a four hour director's cut, yes please. Also... Armie made it seem here like he thought Oliver was newly learning about his bisexuality, as well, not just Elio discovering his... as if he was for the first time experiencing attraction and interest in a male... I like that the use of "Later" has a more nuanced meaning, but I find it hard to believe for the character he didn't know that he was bi and had never explored with men before, but rather he knew and had been with men but always had to work hard to appear as if those parts of himself did not exist, or he would have been disowned by his family, society, etc. I would be super curious to know more about his interpretation of Oliver, beyond just a couple sentences, if anyone has an interview where he talks more about that, please link it to me. I feel like he HAS to have thought that Oliver had previous experience being intimate with men, especially because of "I know myself" when they share their first tender moments of physical intimacy in the grass..... anyway, thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
Thank you for not saying that armie is cannibal and all those things he is accused of. He got cleared and everything. AND yes I always thought that armie is the only one who understands Oliver even the writer of the book said once that " I don't know oliver" if I am not wrong.
Luca is sweet and hilarious at the same time. Michael Stuhlbarg has a very nice way of saying things (I like the way he say things 😉) Timothee Very handsome 😍
I don't know why, but I adore the more where Luca asks for clarification of 'rift' and Armie gestures, saying "schism". I could listen to them all talk forever.

Let me fantasize, I'm delulu at that part.
I don't know why, but I adore the more where Luca asks for clarification of 'rift' and Armie gestures, saying "schism". I could listen to them all talk forever.

Wonder what the issues are between Armie and his Dad? His response to the “father” question left some lingering hostility in the air.
He dropped out of the 11th grade to pursue acting. His parents practically disowned him. They eventually came around after it was clear he was good at it.
