Will always love this song and growing up with a talented Uncle has been a pleasure and you always made time for me and my bro's. Look forward to seeing you soon
If my memory serves me right, Bishop Max Mariu composed this waiata along side the guitarist on this clip Te Taite Cooper who also put the tune to the waiata. I learnt that they both tried to teach this waiata to some of the older whanau in Pakipaki at the time and eventually they came and taught us at Pakipaki School.
Tangi te korimako, ko wai te tipuna e, ko te kahu o te rangi, o Kahungunu e... Tu mai ra e koro, koutou nga tipuna, kia tangihia ra tatou, aue te aroha e
Sol Cooper Thank you very much for helping. This song is great. Taite Coopers and his fellows interpretation is absolutely impressive. Strikes direct in the soul. Maori and Polynesian Music should more spread in the world. Fantastic songs, great people, good values ... so nothing more to say. But it's not ad all easy for me as a German, living in Panama to get the right material (notes, chords, translation ...) I should even learn some maori and tahitian language for feeling better the spirit in these cultures. Their spirit is the real key to their music.
Thank you how beautiful to see you all again much love whanau katoa
