Motorola Edge 50 Pro Review | Too many compromises?

- Reviewing the Motorola Edge 50 Pro, a fresh 2024 Moto flagship sporting a triple lens camera with Pantone colour correction, slick leathery design and Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 smarts. But can the Motorola Edge 50 Pro compete with the best smartphones like the Nothing Phone 2 around this £599 price? And should you consider the Edge 50 Ultra instead?
Well, the performance is sadly limited compared with some close rivals. Gaming on Genshin Impact is a smooth enough experience, but I saw some lag using the cameras. Battery life is respectable however, as the Motorola Edge 50 Pro can happily last a full day as long as you don't hammer the camera or play games non-stop. You've also got fast charge support, to power the battery back up in little time.
Those cameras are once again cause for consternation, though. That primary shooter struggles in lower light, despite producing bright, bold, natural images in clear daylight. The Moto Edge 50 Pro also disappoints when it comes to video capture, while the zoom skills are limited.
That pOLED screen is a stunner though, and I like the stock Android vibe. As usual, Motorola's own apps are excellent. So there's a fair bit to like about the Motorola Edge 50 Pro, but sadly not enough to sway from a Nothing Phone 2 or other affordable flagships.

Motorola's main focus is in Asian markets currently, particularly in India. Here this phone costs literally half of what it costs in the UK. For that price its easily the best phone on the planet.
Exactly, I am from India and I bought this phone few days back. It is objectively the best phone in the price range with amazing user experience.
how is the battery backup bro@@Sailendranath_Thakur
U forgot about having a UFS 2.2/2.2 storage I know ufs that ufs this aint gonna matter in day to day life. But no it does u will notice phone getting laggier and stuttery when u start having large amount of files stored in phone
they should have given a UFS 3.0 instead of that USB 3 support
@@ashindc5859did you notice it in the moto ?

Exactly bruh!! I just commented it. This is too much in Europe. What the hell
Hi Mr. Spurt! Picked up the Motorola Edge 2023 about a month ago. Of course still waiting for Android 14. Supposed to get Android 15 as well but it's Motorola so I'm not holding my breath on that one! I do really like the phone.
Display over type c and desktop mode with Motorola with wireless charger, stock android easy to flash, I love it.
This guy really loves his Anime theme wallpapers.
He kind of does🤣🤣🤣
Dude doesn't care at all about hiding his power level, gotta respect that
They do look good
@@Sergei_Ivanovich_Mosin "power level"?
No he's a man child and so are you🤷🏽♀️
The wallpapers look good, but a greying, middle aged man shouldn't be having anime wallpapers to be honest.....
Did you just say this costs 699£/€. This thing costs 32000 - 35000 Rupees (i.e 320/350£) in India for 12/256 variant. That's twice the money they are charging in Europe then.
I was wondering the same thing 😂
India is way bigger market than Europe.
@@pasip4851 for mid range premium, yes. But the price in Europe is not justifiable
@twinturboray I have no idea why are you bringing this here. I am just merely comparing the cost difference of Motorola in different regions and not housing. If you take iPhone or Samsung. The base variant costs the same both in EU and India. So I am not in anyway comparing if EU has more money or not. If EU has more money that doesn't mean a company can manipulate the market right.
@twinturboray That's just plain wrong thinking. Then Apple should charge $2000 for the US customers because they are the richest and in a poorer country they should sell their phones for $400. You see that, how big of a bullshit is this?
Still using Moto edge 40 its fantastic never let you down fast ,clean android good battery and good stereo loud speakers, and now Moto edge 50 pro ❤❤will buy one day
I love this guy 😍 I've been waiting for his review for this phone I'm in the USA but he does the best reviews for phones
Still using my Edge 30 Ultra and it's holding quite well in 2024. Good job, Moto!
@twinturboray that was in 2022. Have you seen MKBHD's blind camera test last year?moto razr 40 ultra even beat flagship phones. Why? Because people think brighter and oversaturated phones are better so that's what moto is doing now so it won't be "dead last". 😆
How’s those security updates going?
@@scottie3083 currently running Android 14 with Jan 2024 security patch. Moto is promising quarterly security updates which is good enough for me ;)
How's Android 14 😂

Ah Motorola, a brand of what ifs and what could have been.
Defo after Lenovo bought the brand 😢
What are the midrange gen 3 snapdragon blowers we should be peeking at?
Hi pls tell me where u get your wallpapers
Uncle Spurt I had some difficulty finding sensitivity setting on my edge 40 too. I found it in the system settings of the Android settings (not the Moto app). I expect it to be the same on this thing
Great and honest review! You are one of the few if not the only one that has made an proper review with english. Have you got your hands on the Edge 50 Ultra? Has it improved some of the battery/Camera flaws we see here on the Pro? I'm probably choosing a phone between the Edge 50 Ultra and OnePlus 12. Any key takeaways or opinions which way I should go? Battery and camera are the most important aspects for me.
Just get the OP12 if you can, it's better than this in literally almost every way
OP12 is never gonna disappoint you man its simply the best at that price
Thank you for not making a video today about the fucking new insta360 camera. Respect +10
When you gonna review the ultra model dude? Love you 😂
Strong Oppo Find X5 Pro energy on that camera bump.
Even more similar to the Oppo Reno 8 pro. Almost identical just a scaled down version.
Well I just bought it. 699 Euro with their Buds Plus for free in the package. I bought it before seeing your review and would do it after your review again. Why? Easily explained. I have been using Motorola for years, sometimes tried other (including iPhone) but I always returned to Motorola. Since having bought the Edge 20 Pro several years ago I have not wanted a different phone. The "ready-for" simply works. No Samsung glitches or dead promises. It just works. And of course I will never want to miss my "flip for camera" again or the "chop chop flashlight" on a dark staircase. So yes, there are better cameras out there (Moto was never really known for the camera) and there are others with even greater displays, but with the Edge 50 Pro you get what you pay for and more in my opinion. So thank you for your review.
I've been using Moto phones since 2013 - the original Moto G. I refuse to use a phone without Moto features.
How long does the battery last though? Spurt just absolutely ripped into them for poor battery performance.
Would you say it lasts a full day for you with normal everyday usage?
When is the review of the edge 50 ultra comming?
Hey there Spurt! I was wondering do you use Android Auto and if so do you try out all the phones you review with it? Oh and it would be nice to know if there were phones that really had an issue with Android Auto))Cheers!
its quite unfair how its priced in eu
i just bought it for half the price here in india and for that price its probably the best phone rn(imo)
I have the Edge 40 Pro since last Summer and love it. The 50 Pro just looks like the same thing, but they made the camera bump huge for no reason? Not that i feel the need to switch phones, but i hope the Ultra is more of an upgrade.
How's battery life
@@skt03 It's still great, but what helps more is the 68w charger that came in the box. 50% charge in like 15 minutes. I charge while in the shower instead of overnight.
When will edge 50 ultra video upload?
This phone costs about 420 usd in india very worth it over here actually
Edit: Nvm don't buy the phone because it only has UFS 2.2 while other phones at the same or lower price have 3.1 or even 4.0 (x6 pro)
man the fact motorola is charging half in India is such a shame...
Gorgeous phone all up
Have had mine for a week now and I think Motorola has done a very good job. Those lags mentioned have not happened so far and the cameras quality is something. In terms of performance, the device is very good, though some apps take a bit long to open, apps like Claro Móvel, but I believe Motorola's going to solve that soon. It's been released about a month ago here in Brazil, so the price's still a bit high (got mine in a carrier's plan) but I think the cost x benefit is very good. The Ultra version was released the day before yesterday, but its price is prohibitive. I'm quite satisfied with my Moto Edge 50 Pro, though.

Excellent value for money phone 😊
Chop chop to turn on flash, its checked but what about moto display like back in the days Moto X 2014
I'm still getting to know all about motorola flagships
You EU guys are getting ripped off by Moto, it costs ₹32-36k inr in India. Better just import it.
After using Moto G200 for almost 2 years, I realized that my next smartphone would be a Xiaomi
Interesting 🤔
Mi 10t pro is a good one to start with, I've had one before 👍
As someone who had one for 3 years then switched to a Moto G73. Only do it if youre happy with tonnes of bloat and a rather back to front but simple Chinglish OS. Ive had *ONE* Xiaomi phone and I wouldnt go back to them again. However they do offer some extremely good value for money devices but the money is made back by the data they can get off you as well as the ads on their phone and apps if you choose to use them.
Well done,way better phone xiaomi
Xiaomi? Worst software experience. 😂
I've heard claims of their 2.2 being faster than 3.1 quite impressed.
Yeah but only in random read/write, not in sequential.
@@visordownn oh ok I must've missed that thanks for the update champ👍
Is the Ultra any good?
Wahay, love a good Bruce Lee HUWAAAA!!!
Do you work with a team?
Hi, in EU the phone is round 200/300 Euro cheapter then the Oneplus 12, so from money standpoint not even close. I would consider to be a rival for the Oneplus 12 to be the Moto Edge 50 Ultra. Maybe a direct comparison to Moto Edge 50 pro would be the Oneplus 12R, or the bloated Xiaomi 13T which provides a decent kick for its price. Cheers mate
Regarding the half price thing people are mentioning it is in India compared to UK I believe this phone is actually being made in India and the same is then sold to the rest of the world
Hey buddy, it was confirmed by Motorola Service person that this device has Corning Gorilla glass 5 protection
I wish they offered these specs on a non curved phone.
This is the iterative update. Their real flagship is the Ultra, I will patiently wait for it in the USA.
Giv us edge 50 ultra review already
I've never had a good telephoto lens on my phones, but WOULD like that on my next. Just how useful is such a lens in the wide range of pictures you take? Did that balloon flight & sideways landing break anyone's bones? I'm terrified of them and prefer a decent helicopter.
Telephoto lenses are fantastic for people, as it's a much more natural field of view than a wide lens. Less distortion of the face ECT. Once you get used to using a good one you can't go back haha
3 software updates is cap. You're lucky if you get one
I'm currently using a edge 40 neo fed up of waiting for android 14 update. Motorola's software updates are shocking and probably a deal breaker when it comes to replacement.
Yup, they really need to improve their software update policy. Xiaomi is improving in that department, not sure why Motorola is not....
Sir Please Unboxing Moto Edge 50 Ultra 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
I have been using Samsung galaxy s10 plus since it 2019 but now i want to switch to a mid range smartphone with good display, camera and a battery that lasts a day with moderate use, is this the best i can get under 40k.
Name the website where u download the anime wallpapers
sword in the stone. I could get the reference without the image. I am ancient :(
He should start using warzone mobile for game testing
Is it exist now permanent always on display with Android 14?
Getting the same in inr 27500 in India which translates to less than $ 325
As every techie, I'm in between phones right now and I'm realizing now that weight really does matter. I'm rocking the fold 4 at the moment and trying to justify keeping it because it's awesome, but I also have the S23, 23FE, 22Ultra (basically the fold but one screen) Razr 2023 and now a Motorola Edge Plus 2022.
All these phones and I still can't make up my mind. So many good things but scattered through out all of them. I'm thinking sell the fold 3 and 4 I have and keep the Motorola. Sounds random, but I love using Motorola Ready For and on the S23 the DEX option feels the same as on the S10.
I'll probably swap phones again, but I wish all android phones had a base camera because color tones are all over the place on my Google photos.
Things I now know I dislike in phones:
- Too heavy
- 25w charging takes about 1:30hr
- curved screens (screen protectors are impossible to find or install)
- New design phones have 0 cases
- Really wide phones over tall phones.
I use all my phones with developer mode on and all animations off with the highest refresh rate to keep things Super Smooth! Man I love android, but it sucks that one iPhone here and there can pay for the whole inventory.......
Uncle Spurt in the desert! 😂
In my country this device is in 520 dollars a total beast for the price
One year with the Edge 40 and no scratches, the generic Japanese glass in it is better than gorilla glass
Too high initial price, and Motorola's known history of bad software update policy, makes it a big no thanks for me. By the time the price has dropped, the last update will have arrived😂
Actually, if you had done your research then you would know that Moto has promised both 3 years of OS updates and security updates on this phone.
Oneplus Nord ce 4 review?
my brothers edge 20 pro video looks way nice and its 4k60
YAY, AGAIN!
Phones nowadays cost more then a TV 😂
Mad Madam Mim? A man of culture, I see
use the gcam pixel mod with this phone improved camera by leaps
Price in UK and US is very expensive
I love Motorola smartphones so damn much😁🤗💯
I don't want a curved screen. Will wait for Motorola to release a decent flat screen phone.
How many months of updates for Motorola phone?
3+ 1 year of security
All Moto phones have gorilla glass now after a recent partnership on all Moto phones
Oh my😮

I bought an edge 30 ultra on a promo and i sent it flying back as quickly as it flown in. File browser? Not there. Simple gallery app to browse and crop my images? Not there. Notifications in battery saving mode? None. 200mpx camera? Takes oil paintings instead of photos and that hasn't been fixed for 2 years. Motorola not giving a damn about their consumers? Check. Never again.
The price is £599.99 and comes with a free pair of Moto Buds+ worth £129.99.
And a year of screen damage insurance
This thing costs 699 in Europe?

Too many meh's to justify the price or even consideration against rivals.
I use Nokia from 2021 now I am unlucky coz Nokia stopped phoning I see this edge 50 best alternative ❤
But i was amazed how capable the camera of my G73 using it in travel last year, all photos are so beautiful it’s like i use a flagship iPhone or Samsung
How's it 699 euros wtf it sells for the equivalent of 300 quid here in India
15:33 Oneplus 12 is significantly more expensive than 699euro.
night photos is blowing mind , better, than on Samsung s23 ultra and on same level s Huawei p60 pro, front camera even more better, one more good point usb 3.1 and it's support mini PC mode very good realization, only original type c cable not support it , need to buy normal type c to monitor cable with speed as minimum gen 3.1 in India this phone cost around 350$ better to take anyway 12/512 in UK I bought for 350£ + delivery , to speed up all system better in developer mode to switch animation to 0.5 will work this phone more faster.
Ultra is way too costly 999 euros i e. 88k Indian Rupee. The processor is 8s gen 3 not 8 gen 3 ,ufs 2.2 ,no victus glass and 4500 mamp battery even in ultra is not particularly a tempting deal.
