- Suzume might have my favorite ending to a Makoto Shinkai film. The Your Name and Weathering With You director met all my expectations and dashed my concerns. Consider this short my Suzume review.

Farewell - Celeste Развлечения
This movie for me is Shinkai's best work.
It feels like the relationships and dialogue is alot more adult-oriented, rather than teen-oriented.
Also it felt like it just used the story's progress and events/visuals to explain the plot forward instead of just telling you with a character explaining, which I liked.
And most importantly, it just felt like a "Spirited Away" but in a Makoto Shinkai style-film. And I just can't imagine a thing I want more.
This is what i've been feeling as well. In a way they remind me of Chihiro and Haku
@@aeoligarlic4024 omggg yes !
@@aeoligarlic4024same !!!
@@aeoligarlic4024Same! I just watched this movie today and I loved it! Me and my parents were all thinking the same as yoy
It’s beautiful but boring after a while… the story has no meaning… I just hate fake magical stuff that are irrelevant 🤣 when the cat started talking and he turned into a chair I was out.
Who else is sad that the little cat didint become suzumes pet, and who else was sad when suzume told the cat I hate u, especially when he turned very thin.
Me exactly!! :((
Me
!! 🥺
She didn't say i love you at the end either 😢
Im not crying…. You are
Only by confronting the trauma of her past head on is she able to become the full potential of the woman she was destined to be. Similarly, Makoto is conveying the same message about the country and it’s very clearly made evident in the movie. This film is *chef’s kiss*
I was dissapointed suzume's aunt was not shown married. That one guy did everything but still didn't get a good ending
In which movie of Mr.Shinkai someone marrige was shown?
@@Mattricks108 no like atleast fall in love maybe? A closure if you'd will
@@ark-vd7zz Tbf the film is more about forming bonds in general rather than just love.
Her renewing her relationship with her niece is enough imo
Minoru or Serizawa? Bc it seems like her chemistry is more with Souta's friend
Married no, too big a jump, unnecessary.
A in-credits 2-3 seconds shot of her getting together with Minoru the coworker would be enough.
im just sad because the cats gone
Fr
Yeah but it has to happen
Daijin was the main character for me...he represents that you may love some people but you will never get back loved
No, he represents your actions having consequences. Imagine screwing someone over almost forever and expecting to be loved back lol
@@goddeath6425 Imagine being a CHILD deity and hence forth forced to become a keystone for over a century while having nobody to care, love, and truly respect you for the amount of sacrifice you've given to millions. Lets also not forget how the second you finally are given a chance at life, the one person who gave that to you hates you because you never got a chance to understand morality because YOU WERE A CHILD FORCED INTO BECOMING A KEYSTONE.
@@goddeath6425 Seems like a case of Souta's slave. Poor Daijin
Daijin 😿😿
Fr 😢
Eloquently stated. ☺️ I was also surprised that this time, she actually saved the city/town and painfully, reluctantly sacrificed the person she loved. A reversal of the previous films. 👏
She then sacrificed daijin
I appreciate when people actually know what they're talking about when discussing this movie
Just watched it, definitely one of makoto's best works
spoilers ig: Only thing that kinda pulled me out was that she was willing to die for someone she met a week ago. I get that it was probably her first real big crush and I know how I felt a couple years ago, but the bonding happened a little too fast IMO. If it was ~a month at least I would have had much more understanding... but then you run into the problem of her being away way too long from her aunt.
It's not a major issue, just something that made me question some scenes. Regardless great movie and great little analysis of a major theme.
I feel like the two never have any interaction throughout the movie.
THISSS!! At least rose and jack had more chemistry
Bruhhh that's just an anime
That’s the point, she was willing to die because she was immature she didn’t value her life. But in the end after her growth she admits how she wants to live, and heals by being a protector for younger self
In reality it wasn’t completely for him. She was pursuing him through this newfound purpose she’s discovered and the potential of love inside herself. Something that had been locked away and died a long time ago. He was simply the conduit to her potential. She was really pursuing the idea of maturity and love more than the guy himself.
I've seen the last 2 films the creator made, which was weathering with you and your name. I enjoy both of them, especially weathering sigh you, but after watching Suzume, I don't know how to explain it. The movie just, speaks to me when it comes to growing up. Change is something I'm not a fan of which was clear in the movie. And finding love has also become challenging outside of family and friends. And while I want to say Weathering With You will continue to be my favorite anime film, it's now going in second as I just love how Suzume was done and really respect these kind of Japanese films. I maybe American, but hot damn, they know how to do anime.
I loved the animation in this movie. It captured movement and emotion so well, I was absolutely entranced
Shinkai's movies age gap always amazed me 💀, it was better in this one 17 and 21. Suzume had feelings for souta which was obvious for a person of that age. I don't think souta felt the same way, she was more like a friend to him.
i thought at the core of every makoto shinkai film is a form of separation/gap between its main characters: time, dimension, societal, galaxies, psychological. etc
Themes of separation certainly come up a lot!
For this film, I think it'd be duty.
They did separate for a while at the end because they both have their own responsibilities and lives to lead.
Souta's job also likely makes it harder for him to form deeper relationships with people, Spider-Man style.
Its such an emotional movie too, I cried at the end when the calamity and the battle field was swept over with grass and became a peaceful field of ruins. The art and emotion in the finale is just so beautiful
the loop ends perfectly too...
Bro got turned into a bfdi character
Ok but where did the chair leg go
Real question
I believe leg missing - represents that something very horrible happened with Suzume's home and a family during 2011 events. Anime never show anything particular but black pages in Suzume's diary surely make some goosebumps.
@@daseinstudioua2609 No but like what's the physical reason, its in a time loop so how did the leg disappear. I get the symbolism lol
I loved it so much
'Helping soda' 💀
I find it interesting actually especially when they visit suzume's hometown, because there hometowns is actually base on the 3/11/11 earthquake tsunami that occur in tohoku prefecture.
Aside on it, every place that they have been such as Tokyo and Kobe has a reference of history of the most destructive earthquake.
Kobe : 1990s earthquake
Tokyo: 1920s great Kanto earthquake. (That's why daijin said to suzume that "history will repeat itself")
Tohoku region : 2011 earthquake and tsunami disaster
You didn’t even talk about tojimari… the little kitty, it’s really sad and I cried in the part where she said that the cat had to leave….
I didn’t enjoyed Suzume nearly as much as I enjoyed Your Name. Yes, the thematic was interesting but I found that there where too many plot inconsistencies and deus ex machina moments. Meanwhile I still enjoyed it, Your Name just blew me away (especially animation wise)
I really miss the cat he was the only one i love in the movie😢
The perfect short about suzume doesn't exi......
nice ending❤
Celeste music
Because it usually didn't end well lmao
She should’ve left that man as a keystone 🙄
where can we watch it free
Why wont english speakers ever put in the effort to pronounce a word right??!
The Reason Suzume Did Not Surpass Your Name and Weathering with you it's Because Your Name has Unexpected Love Interest With Mitsuha Cause We All Think That The Main Plot of Story is To Save Mitsuha and Citizen From Upcoming Disaster Not Until She Teared About Dating Taki with Other Girl, Same as Weathering with Love Interest is not expected the reason is their age and friendship between two mc not until she confess in her brother and buy a ring to connect with her, for Suzume it is a weird and plot cause he didn't know the guy yet he follow him maybe love at first sight but it is not realistic in real life just like the big 2 movies of Makoto who progress the things just like in real life
Isn’t the movie also based of the earthquakes that destroyed Japan in 2011 I think
The movie exactly represents japan current state people, living the country ,less birth rate and basically dying japan. For me suzume is movie with best plot and ideology
Suzume is a masterpiece anime movie, after watching this movie I am addicted to anime.
You're a fraud.
did u say SODA?
Boku wa kira da
Any confirmation or news about a part 2 of Suzume?
let me know if you find out 😭😭
And then 3 and then 4, and 5, and Revisited, a prequel or two, or three, universe, multiverse and then you'd realize all the magic is long gone, and everything but the original complete story is total sheeeeit.
@@gruby970or maybe you're just a totaaal sheeeitt
The multiverse version incoming, where Daijin stay with Suzume forever
B
So you sat down and watched this movie yet you still say her name wrong like a white woman ordering "Tackos" from Taco Bell?
But her and Sota don't end up together in the end, not yet😭
BRING BACK DAIJIN PUT SOUTA BACK
Bruh 💀
Souta would never work as a key, because we need daijin and Sadaijin as keystones
Oh look! Weeb screaming.
I was watching this on the airplane and I did not know what the hell was going on
Film was ok, I’ve seen better.
This is the worst ending, because Daijin dies
Would've been better if there wasn't a love interest
Either I watched a different Suzume or this guy watched a different movie
He was high on mushrooms
Nah you're just a miserable chuni
I thought this video was pretty spot on. Mind explaining why you disagreed?
