Ochas, for big band and Afro:Cuban percussion, features special guests in the commanding pianist Chucho Valdés and percussionist, vocalist and Santería priest Pedrito Martinez. The Pedrito Martinez Group is off the hook !!!!! Absolutely phenomenal !!!!!
Super! La diaspora noire dans toute sa splendeur!
The more you listen the more you understand the more you hear the different layers of the rythmic and harmonic complexities. Unbelievable. It gives an uncommon depth of feelings and spirituality.
Number 1 man, Wynton, occupying a place in the back ! And voluntarily !
Pedrito always gives what we need in this afro Cuban tradition very proud to be associated with him!
On behalf of all Ifa believers and practitioners, THANK YOU Wynton Marsalis, Pedrito Martinez, Roman, Clemente, and all the musicians of the Orchestra. Thank you for rendering such a respectful, thoughtful, complex and beautiful homage to the tradition of Ifa and its Orisas. In a time when the faith is much denigrated by confused practitioners of other, larger faiths, it is so refreshing to see NPR and the Lincoln Center treat the faith, its Orishas, and its music with the respect it deserves: the center stage. Your work does much to bring the faith into the national and international conversation.
I'm very happy that you've made this masterpiece available for everyone on the planet. I will be showing it to my future students.
Thank you once again!
To the musicians: Ogbo Ato Asure Iwori Wofun (Long life and may you receive the blessings of Ifa Odu Iwori Wofun)

44:45 brought tears to my eyes..harmony, ancestors, love.. thank you
These african rhythms remind me of a two day I did with Babatunde Olatunje, from Nigeria. His group was at the African pavillion at the 1964-65 Worlds Fair in Flushing Queens. Many years later he taught at Shea's studio near Union Square Park. It was life-changing. I came away hearing city sounds as musical.........It was an initiation, no doubt!
This whole Concert is a Masterpiece!! And obviously the main Composer (Wynton Marsalis), is an genius!!
Tears of Joy. Give Thanks!
The muted trombones @ 31:41 is 🔥🔥🔥
La percusion es el sonido de la Madre Tierra. Gran Pedrito Martinez. Continua con la percusion fusion. Saludos....maravilla! No morira esta musica desde el corazon del Africa.

+Alain Londes Such a respectful and beautiful piece Wynton and Pedrito put together. It's hard not to love it
Alongside with Letieres Leite & Orkestra Rumpilezz, this is one of the most beautiful things that are being done nowadays in terms of music.
Baba John Mason, omo Obatala, has done a MASTERFUL job of rendering the songs’ lyrics into intelligible Yorùbá. Look for the book Orin Orisa. It’s a GREAT work.
Very beautiful!

I'm late to this, but it's wonderful.
All together, now and in harmony and synthesis .....and a bunch other things took10,000 years to whip up !
Wow wow wow. ❤
