  • Autel MaxiTPMS TS501 used on a Subaru Outback. I change between two full sets of Winter tires/wheels and Summer tires/wheels twice a year, on two Subaru Outbacks. Each time the wheel sets are swapped, the TPMS system needs to relearn the TPMS codes for the new sets of wheels. I use an Autel MaxiTPMS TS501 tool to do this. I find it to be an easy and efficient way to avoid spending the time and money on four annual garage appointments to do this simple task. Worth every penny!
I'm not an expert on TPMS, but let me know if I can help with any questions you may have about using the Autel TS501 on your Subaru or others. I might be able to help.

@J I tried setting the ID in a brand new Subaru compatible Schrader brand TPMS sensor. No go. The TS501 responded with "Sensor Not Found". Then I looked at the TPMS sensor programming procedure in the TS501 user manual. It states, "Programming function will only work with Autel's MX-Sensor." That answers that!

@@manabouthome Thanks for the update and for trying. So, I now know to purchase Autel valves when the time come. All the best. J

Thanks for the video. Do you have to connect the unit to the OBD with a cable to do the relearn?

Yes. Check out my first TPMS video. It goes through the process in detail. Thanks for watching!

Hi from the UK. That's another really helpful, and reassuring, video regarding TPMS sorting. Can I ask:
    1) are you using Autel TPSM valves or original Subaru valves - and maybe it doesn't matter which?
    2) You didn't seem to have to plug the Autel tool into the OBD, but rather achieved this via bluetooth (?) - is that correct?
I'm thinking of buying a set of steel 17 inch winter rims/wheels to fit winter tyres on, for my 2020 (Gen 5) OB, in order to replace the 18 inches alloys. I'm also considering fitting Autel TPMS valves, plus purchasing an Autel tool that you have illustrated. Anything else I might need to think about or I've forgotten to consider? Best regards.

I'm using the original Subaru (Schrader brand) TPMS sensors on my Summer wheels AND some unknown brand after market sensors on my Winter wheels. In my limited experience, the TS501 will read whatever sensors you have, and relearn them to the OBD2.
"Relearn" is awkward terminology. I'd prefer "download".
The TS501 reads the Sensors on each wheel wirelessly. Then you plug it into the OBD2 port with the supplied cable to "relearn" the sensor IDs to the controller.
I recently purchased 4 new compatible Schrader TPMS valves/sensors to install when I replace my worn out tires. I've confirmed that the TS501 reads the IDs from the new sensors, so they'll be good to go when I install them.
Did you watch my other Subaru TPMS video? It's more thorough than this one, which is just a quick run through.

@@manabouthome Thank you again for getting back to me and clarifying. Again, that's really helpful. Yes, I've checked out your longer video too, and it was also interesting to see what an OB looks like with steel wheels on - 'purposeful'.
I hope you don't mind, but can I also ask another question, or three, about TPMS. Sorry, if ithey're a bit basic, but here goes! I've read and watched some videos which refer to a process called 'cloning' of the valves. As I understand it (and I could be way off the mark here), it's a process of copying the bluetooth (?) ID of individual valves, and then copying those IDs to another set of programmable valves, so that the car 'thinks' the new set are the original set of valves, thereby avoiding needing to reprogramme with each wheel swap? Is that correct? I imagine it can't be quite as easy as that. But if it is possible, does the Autel Maxi provide a means for doing that?
      Many thanks again.

I believe the Autel TPMS tools will only program Autel valves. I'm going to try it out on some Schrader TPMS sensors I have to see if it works. But I don't think it will. I'll get back to you with results. Yes, it would be nice to have two sets of wheels with duplicate IDs!

What kind of sensors do ur winter tires have?

    • @manabouthome
      @manabouthome  2 года назад

I bought the full set of used wheels and tires off craigslist. So, I don't know what brand the TPMS sensors are. I suspect they're a universal fit type, probably sold by Tire Rack or something like that. Subaru original equipment sensors are Schrader brand. Autel MX sensors should work too.
