    Sheets are 43x86. You also chose brushed which means when cutting, you cannot turn the pieces to fit more per sheet. If you did the grain would be all different directions and would look terrible on the boat. By making smaller pieces they can fit more per sheet.

    Damn. Personally I would invest in a good pair of shoes that would grip on your bare deck and conduct a series of sea trials before I parted with such money. I don’t see any reason why there would be disappointments discovered but if the sea trials yielded any ideas of reconfiguring the deck, you wouldn’t need to destroy the super expensive deck matting to make modifications.

    Why do you have to get it inspected? I made a 16ft homemade vessel in NC and walked into the boat store, filled out like 3 or 4 lines on a paper, mailed it in and recieved a title and registration in a week in the mail.

      I think the main reason is to verify that the boat wasn't stolen before a home built title is issued.

    I want something that I can put two people on and that will run in skinny water as well. I know that your boat was a do it yourself kind of deal. Does that manufactuer have people that can build that skiff for people? How much water does it take to get that boat on plane? Will you put it on a trailer when you are finished?

    • @SchwindOutdoors
      @SchwindOutdoors  3 года назад +1

      I don't believe they have anyone that will build it for you. However, they do sell the kits which come with pre cut plywood panels and epoxy. It speeds up the process! If you're looking for someone to build you one, I know a guy! As far as getting up on plane, I'm not sure. I'll be doing some sea trials in mine to answer questions like that. That would make a good video actually...

      And yes, I will be putting mine on a trailer. They will fit in the bed of a truck too!

    I always wonder if water will get under these mats and then you have all that mildew underneath and fish debris. I might just leave my Jon Boat as is with aluminum and just wear non-skid shoes although I know it's not as comfortable.

      We'll see how it wears. It seem sealed up pretty tight underneath them!

    I'm very impressed with how patient and malicious you've been throughout this process of building your own skiff. I know that you decided to build your own for a reason and I wonder if looked into buying one before you decided to build your own. If so, when you were doing your research what were your top choices if you bought a skiff already done for you? Thanks for sharing.

      Thank you for the comment! You know, it was mostly about price and size for me. I wanted something that was $10,000 or less and I wanted it to be able to fit in my garage. I liked that this boat was big enough for two people and that it could go in super skinny water. I also liked that I could buy material for it as I went instead of dropping all of the cash at once. It made it a little easier on the pocketbook!

      Hi Schwind! Did you get my email address last week so that we could connect and I could talk with you about the person you told me that could build the boat? You never responded and I wanted to make sure you received my connect information. Thank you!

    how did you do the custom template and how did you make the draw?? thanks for the help

    • @SchwindOutdoors
      @SchwindOutdoors  2 года назад

      I ordered the template kit from MarineMat. They have step by step instructions on how to draw everything out. It is pretty simple, just tape the plastic down and then use a sharpie to roughly draw the area that you want the mat to go. They smooth everything out at the shop.

    @roblescurbappealconcrete 3 года назад +1

    Man, your skiff looks great, have to hurry and get mine going.
    As far as the mat goes, I believe you have 10 pieces on the second drawing versus 4 pieces on the first is because they are using leftover pieces. I think it would be better to look online for more options. That's just my opinion it doesn't mean anything.
    I would like to say thanks for sharing the build, it looks awesome.

    The the Marine man installation I have was installed in May of 2022 by 8 to 10 weeks later it was sunburned because of light amplification they told me they warrantied zero warranty zero on this it's terrible told me that it wasn't covered and that's it so buyer beware but I'm very disappointed in They Don't really perform as well as they want to go ahead and tell everybody they do

      That a shame to hear. Mine have been fine so far, although they haven't seen a ton of time in the sun yet. I store it in the garage and have only had it out 5 or 6 times. Mine have stained in a couple of spots, but nothing serious.
