  • Replacing the fan in an HP 15-ef0023dx. The fan part number is L68134-001 and I found several on Amazon. They seemed expensive compaired to almost all other fans at $47 plus tax, but the company that sold the laptop wanted $200 to replace it, so it is still worth doing yourself. Here is the Amazon link to the unit I ordered: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08...

    9:30 Deeply grateful for your help getting the power connector off. I'm an Electrical Eng. and I STILL managed to break the locking tabs off the same tyoe of connector on my tablet's battery. The manual shows how to take out every last screw but not a word about these damned things (the speaker connector too)

      I removed the case then fan screws easily enough, then pulled the wires horizontally assuming the connector is a normal connector. When a decent amount of force didn't budge it I searched YT and found this video - same here, his advice at 9:48 saved me.

    Ditto with Mo Kajji. Your instructional video matches my model. I am grateful. I didn't want to break the shell connection upon disassembly or damage components hidden along the edges. The fan connector removal [close up] is A+.
    And, thank you for being straight forward with the video. Most YT posters showboat their supposed micro-electronics 'talent' by talking about other devices not related to the video title... and waste my time.
    Thank you very much.

    Thanks a lot. Been looking for a video with my laptop model. I would've never figured that the other screws were underneath the straps 😅.

      The only reason I did the video is because I couldn't find any other one for this model. But, I did find another video for a different model HP that used the same hidden screws under the strips, so I am sure you would have figured it out in time.

    Thank you for this video! We have a similar model laptop and for the life of me, I could not figure out how to undo the connector until you demonstrated it here. Was able to order the part and replace it myself at a fraction of the cost of what I was quoted for a repair. Thank you very much!!!

      My pleasure - that is exactly why I made the little video. When I first ran across this connector, I was stumped, so I looked all over RUclips for an example of someone taking this type of connector out and could not find a single laptop video with this type of connector. I finally found someone taking apart a 35mm camera that had a similar connector and when I tried it, it worked. So, I figured that others would benefit from knowing how to do this.

    I did not have an issue getting the 3 screws removed, however, I did have an issue with the connector. When you popped yours out, there appeared to be a base left on the motherboard. This one completely came off. Help please?!

    Great video, thanks!
    What was the problem with the original fan? Do you see any improvement?
    Mine is so noisy, it's worse than any other laptop I had. The fan keeps running at high speed for a long long time. I tried to find a way to turn it off, no success at all. I'm thinking of replacing it.

    • @MrEdwardhartmann
      @MrEdwardhartmann Год назад

      Original fan was running very slow causing laptop to overheat. As for your problem, normally, the fan speeds are controlled by the computer. It could be running fast because the CPU is hot maybe because of dust/hair clogging the heat exchanger. You may want to install an app that lets you check the cpu temp. It could also just be a bad fan.

    The top screw has a wire that runs right next to it. On my laptop (which I'm pretty sure is the exact same as this one) that wire runs over top of the screw with some tape(?). Can I just pull that tape up to access that screw?

    • @MrEdwardhartmann
      @MrEdwardhartmann 7 месяцев назад

      Since I did not have that issue, I am not sure what the wire is or what it is used for, but if you remove it carefully and return it to the same spot after replacing the fan, I assume that you will be fine.

    • @Laptops1781
      @Laptops1781 7 месяцев назад

      @@MrEdwardhartmannit's the black wire that runs along the side and top of the fan in your video. Not sure exactly what it is, but looks to be taped to the fan on my laptop. I assume I can just take the tape off

    • @MrEdwardhartmann
      @MrEdwardhartmann 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@Laptops1781 I see the wire you are talking about and you should be ok as long as you don't yank so hard that you dislodge or break the connector. I have no idea what that cable is either, but with the number of wires inside the cable (judging on the large connector) I would assume that it either goes to the display or the touch screen.
