During colonial times, it wasn't uncommon for explorers from Europe to bring back live species from North America when they returned to their home countries, for science or to sell to rich people who wanted to look cool by owning an exotic animal. I know that's how England got their Canada goose population-- somebody thought it would be cool to bring some over and they multiplied from there. I wouldn't be surprised if it were the same in the Netherlands.

@@bobcatbigpaws5597 Ducks do line up but are much SMALLER then Canada Geese. Plus ducks usually have the mother leading her ducklings and while Geese travel in a large group sometimes with other adults and babies.

As much as I would like to say thank you... this is NOT Canada. They are Canadian Geese, but all those licence plates are not Canadian- I thought maybe England... but then they would be driving on the wrong side of the road. The people are talking in English, so I'm really not sure where this is.

The street the geese are crossing (Laan van Meerdervoort) is said, with it's length of 5.8KM, to be not only the longest avenue in The Netherlands, but also in Europe.

Solid Crew! I walk in the middle of the street and everyone honks. These guys clearly have a strong presence in that community. Probably local muscle for the small shops.
A true happy few minutes of the last 2 decades, all this noise, honking, looked up, and there it was!

but nobody was speaking English here. And even if they spoke English you would hear immediately that they are dutch. This architecture only exists in the Netherlands. How come that I can recognize other countries by architecture. The world is so big I don't say al countries but most of the time I would be able to make an educated guess.

In Santa Clarita where I live, there is a MAJOR HIGHWAY....with a sign about the ducks, geese, etc crossing daily. And EVERYONE knows this is the law here. NO ONE drives fast and NO ONE is allowed to go out around the ducks crossing! I love this. Near this street in Santa Clarita is the street where Paul Walker died on. His car was going far too fast for safety...thankfully, he wasn't on the duck highway!

During the warm weather canada goose molt their feathers and will be unable to fly for a period of about 6 weeks. During this time they will stay close to water in order to have a means to escape predators on land.

I think these Canadian tourists are visiting the the memorial plate The Hague raised to remember the 8,000 Canadians who died liberating Western Europe and the Netherlands. It´s located 500 meter further down the street. This is the Laan van Meerdervoort/Palestrinaweg in The Hague/Kijkduin. The ringing bell you hear is the tram stopping to pass these Canadian tourists.
