World of Warships - First Look: Low Tier Dutch Cruisers (Tiers I - IV)

  • Here's our First Look at the Tier I, II, III, and IV Dutch cruisers. Though low tier play is polluted by bots and isn't all that exciting these days, in the interests of completion, let's take a short spin through the bottom end of the new Dutch cruiser line and see if we can get a sense of these ships.

    FYI theiy traded New Amsterdam (NY) with Surinam (in S-America) which was a dutch colony until the Bouterse revolt in 1976.
    I have a bunch of surinam-dutch friends. :-)

    You mentioned the tier three St.Louis. Back when World of Warships was in its infancy, I played the hell out of that ship. I loved that it had seven or eight relatively fast firing guns and sunk a lot of ships with the St. Louis.
    That was all before I finally got my first tier six ship and then it kind of got left behind.

    I do play the low-tier ships as I find I have more fun with them. Thanks for reviewing the really low-tier ships. You can have a lot of fun in these ships without all the grief & madness of the really high-tier ships. People are more relaxed & don't care if you make mistakes, just as long as you have fun.

    Historically, the area of NYC was originally settled by the Dutch who traded with the local tribes for furs.
    In the 1664, the Dutch lost a continental war with the English. As part of reparations, all North American Dutch territories were turned over to the English. The colony of New Amsterdam was promptly renamed after the Duke of York.
    There were many other settlements that tranferred names around the same time period.
    For instance, Fort Orange became Albany (NY) from the Duke of York and Albany in England.
    So, you are not far off on using the NYC port as a port of call for the Dutch ships.

    De Ruyter should come with the unique commander Karel Doorman with the special ability "I am attacking, follow me", giving the allied fleet a 10% speedboost, 100% extra morale at the cost of -30% torpedo protection.

    Very nicely detailed video, as always. IMO people wont play these ship much - anyone with some spare free xp -> will just buy his/her way straight through to T5 or T6 ... I wish WG would put some effort into these low tiers - like introducing some operations ... like the Battle of Tsushima or something similarly iconic ...

    A question, I haven't played the game in a while and was kinda excited for my neighbors but I can't seem to figure out how to get Dutch ships, can someone tell me?

    On the match making and low tier ships its is a shame. as wargaming could easy do a period era match .
    having naval battles with period correct ships . from early 1900 naval wars to ww1 to ww2 .
    PS the dutch did have torpedos but usualy they where one the pantserschepen ( armoured cruisers /coastal defence ships ) destroyers ,
    But there is a type of light cruiser missing the Tromp class light cruisers. due to her small size she was also called a flotila leader. and she packed a real punch as she was just 130meters long 6 x 150 mm bofors with the dutch heavy shells (1.5 kg heavier than the british shells) 2x3 torpedo tubes ( the same torpedos used on the dutch submarines in ww2) . and tons of aa 4x2 hazemeyer bofors 4x 75mm aa guns .

      Though they haven't been announced yet, this is standard when a new nation is introduced. What do you think the Dutch port will be? Den Helder? Amsterdam?

    I just don't understand why WG are releasing a line of a new nation when they have yet to introduce Italian DDs. The "Air Strike" gimmick is just ridiculous. In my opinion, this game doesn't need any more gimmicks. 🤬🇺🇸

    No one plays the lower tiers now, unlike when WOWS was first starting out. We all grinded out in the beginning.
    Now noobs just buy their way in with premium ships they have no idea on how to play.

    The Ruyter is a piece of shit, I have prime, and played for a couple hours, gun dispersion is awfull, it is a bb dreamtarget.

      It's more about the relative number of games most players will play these ships. Huge swaths of players don't even play these tiers anymore and will FXP right past them. For those that don't, I share a few thoughts.
