    I recently bought the Boox Note Air 3C.
    This machine complements my Android Samsung A45 phone, notebook PC, desktop PC, and iPad Pro 13." Although that seems like enough tech, Boox has found a niche that all the other tech does not provide. It is another versatile tool that saves my eyes, lets me read a lot (needed in my job), takes notes, and boosts my productivity painlessly.
    The color feature is obviously not the same as an iPad or anything close to OLED or other "bright screen" tech. Who cares when that is not the ultimate goal of an e-ink device? The usefulness is in note-taking. Exporting the work to PC (Word or PDF) will show the colors vividly. I save my eyes while creating the notes I need. This is a perfect use of color e-ink. It blows away the eyestrain of taking notes on the iPad.
    The B&W version cannot do the type of note-taking I want, but I imagine it is a great product as well. The Boox Note Air provides a lot of functionality that other e-ink devices fail to deliver.
    The battery life is fine for me. I must charge everything, usually within a couple of days anyway, and that is what the color version can do.
    So, my opinion is that it is well worth the investment.
    Thanks for your videos on this tablet!!

      Hi ! I'm doubting to buy the air 3C. I need to read a lot of scientific articles, and I'm using an app (PaperPile) that is synced with my google drive.
      I've read that the note-taking isn't good on the app itself through the note air 3C, however, I was wondering if i could sync the tablet to my drive and annotate the pdf files through there.
      Will these files stay the same files or is there some duplicate created (or replacing the old file). I would need the syncing to work both ways, for PaperPile to be able to keep track of the annotations.
      I hope I was clear with my question, but really it's all that matters to me. I would love to relax my eyes on an e-ink tablet but i really need the annotations and syncing to work.
      Hope you could help me with that !

    People don't understand or don't know why (what is the reason), but they know intuitively that they feel betrayed. When boox launched TU b&w they had already developed a fully functional TUC and already almost completed NA3C and TUC pro. The business model is simple. If they have reached a technological peak of development, Boox will not "deliver" it in a single ereader but progressively and in stages in several generations in order to squeeze money from those who want the latest technology. Consumerism is their best friend.

      You know the answer: next year there will be a new device; so wait for the new release and buy this device at a discount as this is what usually happens with Boox devices: their residual value is garbage usually, since they make so many. As far as software they support them for a while, so that should not be a concern

      Having purchased a pre-loved Max 2 from 2018 a few weeks ago on eBay, I am quite confident to trust Boox's claim to support devices for quite some time. The Max 2 runs on Android 6 (ugh), but it did update to V3.3.2 (and probably will pick up V3.5 soon, the Nova Air 2 also just got the firmware update this week), everything works fine (although a bit slow, I have to admit, compared to my Nova Air 2 and the brand new Note Air 3 C I just got), no dead pixels, it synchs to the Boox App just like its younger siblings and I couldn't be happier with it.
      I do understand update anxiety and FOMO with the endless stream of new devices (not only from Boox), and sure, you have to find the perfect spot for yourself between getting a device a fits your needs for as much of the foreseeable future as possible while also having a responsible look at your budget and tryto find a bit of fun in all that ;-), but having used a 2nd gen Kindle from 2009 until 2020, I have learned to just love my devices and stop looking for something new until it becomes impractical or inevitable.

    Time stamp 21:27. I have the original Note Air with the original cover. Using peel and stick magnets, I magnetically attached the NA to its cover so that it hinges from the right. This does three things. First, I can remove the NA form the cover quite easily and have it available 'naked' if I so need. I don't have to deal with the Boox adhesive. Second, I use a Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite stylus. The stylus does stick to the NA magnetically, but this is no stronger than the original Boox stylus magnet. Hinging the cover from the right secures the stylus to the NA when the cover is closed (NA not in use). Third , I can charge the NA with the cover closed, which is the question that is asked at time stamp 21:27.
    If the NA3C has the same physical dimensions, a similar solution might be possible using older surplus and third party covers. A few caveats: first, the peel and stick magnets should be prepositioned on the back of the NA3C to get the magnetic polarities correct before attaching them to the cover. Second, don't let the magnets get too close to the location of the WiFi and BT antennae on the back of the NA3C (orange strip). This may cause some interference to the radio reception/transmission for these antennae. A 2 cm offset should be sufficient. I write from experience on this. Third, adding magnets to the cover adds weight to the system. Whether this would be more than the standard NA3C cover would depend on the number of magnets used.

  • @RiccardoChiarini
    @RiccardoChiarini 6 месяцев назад

    Nice video as always. Regarding the Q10, I'd like to discuss why I believe many people aren't satisfied with the rapid release cycle. The issue lies in the fact that as a company releases more devices, it becomes increasingly challenging to support them all with updates and new software releases. Therefore, the problem isn't necessarily the frequent release of new devices, but rather the lack of long-term support for each of them.

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  6 месяцев назад

      But Boox' devices that are now 4-5 years old are still getting the lates OS updates and features, so that is a pretty long term support under any circumstances.

    • @RiccardoChiarini
      @RiccardoChiarini 6 месяцев назад

      @@MyDeepGuide Here what Boox shares on its website: "BOOX is committed to providing free firmware updates for all models for at least three years after the product's launch. Through continuous updates, every BOOX user can have a better experience. And every BOOX user can get 10GB of free Onyx cloud storage to store their notes online and keep them safe."
      In any case, the more devices are produced (and with different architectures or Android versions), the more difficult it becomes to promise long-term support. It's reassuring to know that Boox still supports devices from 5 years ago, but the production of many devices doesn't help to foster a positive perception in this regard.

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  6 месяцев назад

      But shouldn't the perception be based on, oh I don't know, the objective reality, and not subjective impressions that are heavily biased?

    • @RiccardoChiarini
      @RiccardoChiarini 6 месяцев назад

      @@MyDeepGuide Certainly, however, as a company, Boox must also take into account the subjective impressions people have in order to increase device sales.
      On average, companies that produce a wide variety of devices often struggle to provide long-term support, so I believe the doubts about Boox are understandable, although the facts tell a different story.
      Nonetheless, I believe it is more environmentally sustainable and forward-thinking to produce fewer well-designed devices rather than releasing numerous revisions shortly after.

    Thank you for another good video regarding Air3 C, I got it today, and I did some trial with the device. Especially comparison between RM2 as this is my first e-Ink device for my everyday use.
    And, I found something interesting while using this new device. As you may aware that the RM2 pen can be also used for Boox device, and you might already know a difference. I am not sure this is only because of the pen nib shape or not, but RM2 pen can draw thinner line under same pressure condition on both devices. So, I feel like I use two different pen. This means that I can anyway use each pen for different purpose. ANYWAY, this is not very important. More important thing when it comes to E-Ink display. Monochromatic has more clear and brighter look than Kaleido 3, so this is not a choice. They are let's say just different product for different purpose even though they are in same product category in a way. We use different type of note for my use case when using real paper note. It is something like that. I really like both devices with different reason for each. I will wait for your new review or video about air3 C.

    After watching your review and couple of other I've decided to upgrade my Nova 3 to Note Air 3 C and... I'm very satisfied. It runs very smooth and colours help with reading magazines. I've also bought 1TB microSD card and I wonder if I ever will be able to fill it up with manga. I've started to read more because of this device, although I have it for like 2 weeks, so I'll see if I keep it up, or "return to normal" after the novelty wears off. One issue I have with this device that no one else mentioned is the lack of black and white software filter for the whole screen. I've encountered mangas that looked very bad, but when I've turned on in-app grayscale filter, they started to look very good. I guess the image also contains some slight colours to enhance greyness or the scans behave as if they were colour images or something, I don't know. Unfortunately not all apps have a grayscale filter, so it would be a nice app optimization option. Oh, and the naviball don't have a button for switching refresh modes which is a bit annoying. About the "is my data send to CCP" - if anyone cares about their privacy they should know that there's no such thing as a "cloud" - it's someone else's computer. So doesn't matter where the company is located, whether it's USA, China, EU, Switzerland or Botswana at the end of a day by using their storage services you trust your data to them. You can always opt to not use Boox account like me and it should be OK, the only thing you'll be missing are their book store and cloud and synchronization options. (Though fortunately it's possible to move your notes from one Boox device to other manually without any internet access. It's not perfect, as it haven't backed-up notes that are in folders, so I had to move them out of the folders before creating a back-up.) You can even not use Google Play and use F-Droid instead. Or if you're extra paranoid - don't use the internet at all.
    BTW. I've just checked the CPU, and according to CPU-Z I have Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 2.40 GHz, so I guess I lost the CPU lottery. I've bough it in a Polish store specializing in e-readers. Welp, at least I hope this means my battery will last longer than those with 2.80 GHz.

    Hi Voja,
    I am considering a purchase of the Note Air 3C for my daily work against eye strain. So the main purposes for this device would be to read A4 pdfs and using the device as a secondary monitor as well as a bit of browsing of course.
    My questions are:

    2. If it is a pain, would you suggest rather to wait for a potential Tab X C in 13inch? (Which I hope will come out soon. 😀

    Regarding the "wanting the newest"-phenomena, I totally agree with your mindset hardwarewise. It is more or less the same view I have as well, but softwarewise it is another story. Android devices are generally mediocre at best regarding software updates, and way too often bad to very bad. Boox devices are somewhere in the direction of mediocre. My Note Air 2 does not seem to receive any Boox OS/Software updates since a wile, which I found rather disappointing, especially since it still has some quirks and smaller bugs! This fact plays in to the phenomena, where you actually want to wait a little, just to get the most out of the updates. Further, when you then see updates on newer devices, that hardwarewise should work perfectly fine to on your old device, it strengthens that annoying, but understandable, phenomena even more.

    I am not sure about your evaluation regarding rapid charging/discharging while using as an external monitor. Based on my experience it depends on how the power management circuit is designed. That is only IF the device is using the power management circuitry that operates that way and can handle things they way you assume it will. Provided that Boox devices can't even figure out when they are busy, and the fact that some users have ruined their device doing the very thing I am warning against, it's prudent to handle your device on the cautious side of things.

    I can relate to the paperweight commenter. I broke my TUC screen. Probably my fault, hence I didn‘t claim warranty. But it really is more fragile then say my ipad, which was fine in the same bag, that broke the TUC. And what broke was an inner glass layer. Not the direct contact surface you‘d interact with.
    If Boox used the same inner screen composition on the TUC and Nova Air 3c, I feel it is more fragile.
    Also the comment to not use a boox account and be safe of potential spyware is but short sighted. I am not saying Onyx is spying, but since they own the firmware they can technically put tracking onto the device, that doesn‘t need an account. The only way of confirming that is to wireshark the device traffic. But I guess people have an easy way to opt out, y not buying the device

    Hello Voja, Thank you for all the excellent reviews! I really like your clear and thorough explanations and I especially enjoy your enthusiasm.
    You mentioned briefly, that Remarkable2 excels in the drawing experience over the Note Air 3C.
    How is the drawing experience on the Air3C? Drawing is a major use case for me.
    Also regarding the syncing between the files on Note Air 3C and a MAC, how does this work? is there two-way editing? for instance, can we create a document on the Air3C edit it on the Mac then edit it again on the Air3C?
    This will be my first e-ink device, and I am between the Remarkable2 and the Air3C. Remarkable2 for the distraction-free focus, ease of use, and clear UI… and the Air3C for the colors, handwritten note searching, dictionary, and Kindle/audible support. In addition to drawing, writing/editing/reading/annotating/planning/organizing, are major use cases.
    Thanks and keep up the great reviews.

    The idea that "don't use a Chinese server, don't use a Chinese company's user account" solves security issues is woefully uninformed, and while not dangerous to most, it is certainly dangerous to some.
    Whomever makes the device and pre-installs software also determines what information is sent to whom unless the user interferes deliberately.
    Most smart bulbs, IoT et al., send data to China; saying that you don't have to worry about your far more capable Android tablet doing the same is optimistic at best, with the benefit of occasionally being correct.

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  10 месяцев назад +2

      Anyone who thinks that they can keep privacy online is mistaken. So if you want security, then never allow your device to get online. Everything else is a compromise. What I am talking about here is what the user asked, which is, is the data from their device being synchronized with a Chinese server. And the answer to that is what I said.
      What you are talking about are assumptions, guessing and not proven hypothesis, which may or may not be true, but from what I tested (monitored and measured outbound network traffic) I can only see regular server ping packets that measure in bytes, and it coincides with a normal behavior when a a service is periodically checking to see if it has a connection with the server or not.
      So what I know for a fact is that when you are not connected to a Chinese server and you are not using the Boox account, the only thing that the device is doing is checking the server status, never doing anything else, never sending any meaningful amount of data that would cause suspicion, or point in the direction that you are insinuating.
      So, my question is, are you basing your claim on any concrete facts, measured, tested facts that apply concretely to Boox devices and services, or is it something else? If it is based on facts, please do share, as this is an important and an interesting topic that is worth covering, but I'm not interested in conspiracy theories, the what it's, or any other kind of opinions. Only concrete, measurable facts please, as that is the only thing that can move this forward. Because the point here is to gather, measure facts, present them in a clear manner, so that people can form their own, informed opinions.

      @@MyDeepGuide My assertion is that lacking traffic tracking metrics, it's unsafe to assert that a thing is not happening simply because the obvious culprits are not in use. I appreciate you added more clarity with some investigation in this comment, my only concern is that twice in the video there was an overbroad and general claim of safety made where it isn't sure without the testing you also mentioned should be done to speak with authority.
      No insinuations, no misguided sense that data is in fact private, just a simple statement that it's optimistic at best to say that not signing in to Chinese services keeps your data from Chinese servers barring deeper analysis. Nothing else.
      Really appreciate the depth you go into in the reviews, keep up the great work.

    I haven't seen it directly, but folks on the Boox subreddit say a company representative confirmed in a message there that a B&W version is on the way.
    I'm looking forward to it. As neat as the color is, there are some Android apps that use color for their UI and text when I'd rather just have crisper black for those elements. And I notice after-images inside large blocks of color easily on my Tab Mini C -- while traditional "ghosting" on the canvas is much better than any pre-BSR device I ever used. I'd rather keep things simpler with B&W and have the display look cleaner overall.

They're less noticeable then the first NAC3 i had replaced (thanks amazon!)---but now that i've seen them, it's impossible to not see them. Considering I ordered a TUCP to compare and it also has dead pixels... that's a pretty dismal rate of bad screens. It is just assumed that people will tolerate dead pixels? Not cool... I am on the verge of buying an e-ink device for the first time, mainly to take notes for my work (I do academic research) and to read and annotate academic articles in pdf. After a long search, I am now leaning towards the Supernote A5x, I really like their operating system and the fact that it is a device focused on writing, so no distractions, notifications, audio... However, here in Europe buying a Supernote is very expensive, due to import taxes (~700€). Buying a Boox, on the other hand, is much cheaper, because they are distributed by amazon (~500€). At this point, I am wondering if it makes more sense to get a Boox instead of a Supernote. How does this device compare with the Supernote? Thank you
