    I feel like Harley's biggest issue is their price tags. Why am I spending over 20,000 dollars for a sporty but comfortable bike when I can spend way less for something that offers something similar? I don't hate Harley by any means but I just don't understand how they charge so much and people still buy it

    • @mrpoppagorgio5052

      because better materials and higher quality parts cost more. I drive only two kinds of bikes. Cruisers and enduros. Love my enduros. Yamaha and suzuki are my choices for dirt. But after messing with my yamaha and suzukis and my harleys. The harleys are way ahead of them in hardware. My 1990 softtail custom. Pretty sure all my fasteners and bolts are original. Knocking on 30 years still havent stripped a bolt out. My enduros....i expect to replace every minor fastener on bikes within first few years. Truthfully harleys are made to enjoy for a lifetime. Ur supposed to keep it forever. Built to how u want it. Big difference with other cruisers. The metrics feel like throway bikes. Just imo. Dont hate me. For what its worth. My old softtail custom. Wouldnt trade it for any other bike on earth. New or old. Harleys grow on you. Few others do.

      Mr poppagorgio I agree. Bout the only bike highway has a following other than harley davidson is the gold wing

    • @budfans

      still dose not justify the 21k price tag for a stripped down bike.. also yamaha is on par if not better then the harleys look at the new venture.. Also at least yamaha does not have shifters breaking off and having issues with oil going from the tranny into the primary... now Suzuki just sucks even there more expensive bikes feel cheap.. I had a road star from yamaha and to me the quality was the same as harley and to top it yamaha came out with a 4 valve pushrod motor in the 90s

    Clip-on handlebars can be swapped out for a more traditional setup. There’s hardware for it beneath the FXDR nameplate. Great review

    As for Handlebars.. in another video they stated if you take of the FDXR sinage, you can replace with a "standard Handlebar" as for air cleaner, it can be swapped out.. the 117 model comes with a "custom look" air cleaner.

    Congratulations to Harley-Davidson are in order.
    Eighteen years after the release of the V-Rod, they managed to completely reimagine the muscle cruiser, now with more weight and less horsepower, and a drivetrain that is slower, far less reliable, and still air-cooled. The only metrics they have improved are torque and mpg. After 18 years.
    Congratulations, and may 2020 offer some respite from this air-cooled lunacy.

    • @Tuesdaysgonewtw
      @Tuesdaysgonewtw 5 лет назад

      This bike handles better than the V Rod (supposedly) but it's a lot slower, so yeah, it's a beautiful bike but 92hp and 20k plus price tag just doesn't add up.

    • @doylee469
      @doylee469 4 года назад

      Tuesdaysgonewtw the vrod has zero torque. Who want’s a cruiser with zero torque, not me, that big old radiator on the front of the vrod is super ugly! Yikes!

  • @Brianbaker3

    Needs mid controls and it’s perfect.. rode one today and the forward controls make having clipons redundant and awkward.. with mid controls it’d be agile and comfortable

  • @harveyb5221
    @harveyb5221 6 лет назад +8

    Agree... my gripe is the price + Harley tax + rear fender mod. By the time I’m $26K into the bike, I’m thinking of all the other bikes at that price point. Now, if it’s putting out 150hp, and sounds like a monster, I’d consider it.

    • @mopar21

    • @SILK334
      @SILK334 6 лет назад +1

      Agreed harley talks about their torque like they are selling trucks. 110 lbs of torque with 60hp is really underwhelming and disappointing when the price tag is comparable to like an H2

    • @LARGO125
      @LARGO125 6 лет назад +2

      At that price, a Ducati Xdiavel S will give you 160hp, Brembo brakes, race tuned suspension, and the pedigree to go with it. Sigh... HD fails again.

    • @kuiperdasniper
      @kuiperdasniper 6 лет назад +1

      @Rata 4U The 600cc sportbikes are being hit because of ever increasing Euro 4 bullshit emission laws. They're making it damn near impossible. What they should start doing is selling the bikes with a super shitty tune that passes emission, but everyone knows you need to remove it. Go to the dealer and say you want to "only track it", let them upload the real map, rip the cat off and voila. They're trying to hit performance numbers and pass Euro 4 simultaneously.

  • @draganm7823

    The price tag is higher than a lot of other brands but it's because better /stronger parts. Other brands focus on performance while HD in quality hardware and (almost) enough power.

    Thank you for the most informative and best videos. Sophisticated and BS free, also thankfully free of theatricals. For those who just might be interested. I have owned several HD since the EVO engine, favourite Road King with all up-rated engine mods possible. To balance the riding pleasure, I also buy a Blade, Kwacker or Duke from my dealer chums for Track Days, plenty of good circuits in the UK. Should mention, I am 73 so bikes are the only things to excite my groin and and my leathers are getting tight. Again, thank you.FXDR air cleaner and mufflers ( silencers in the UK) should be junked, same with the Headers to allow mid-placed foot controls.

    Nice video. Speaking of turning with a 240 rear, have you ever done a test ride on a Ducati XDiavel? 240 rear on that, but turns well. Give it a try if you can and please post. I'm a current owner of a 2016 XDiavel S, but am intrigued by this bike. A comparo would be awesome. Thanks and keep up the good work.

  • @TheViperSD
    @TheViperSD 6 лет назад +21

    Actually, i might be first Ken. I bought the bike yesterday. Put about a 30 mile test ride on it, tho i wasn't planning to go that far initially. When I got back to the dealership I traded in my breakout in.
    Yeah, it bends you forward. Good news is that there are mount points under the fxdr for std bars so you can change it out to anything you want. i'm thinking street slammers to you really only need to come up a couple of inches to make it right. still shopping on that front. you and i are on the same pg there.
    It handles amazingly for a bike with a 34 deg rake and a 240 rear tire. It needs exhaust badly in my opinion, and that plastic bread box cleaner has to go. the one thing i like about it is the filter doesn't require oiling when you clean it, or so I've read.
    coming from the breakout, the foot peg position felt quite natural to me.
    Oh yeah, I got in touch with custom dynamics. Their offices are about 30 min from me. They are interested in looking at my bike to design a fender eliminator kit. I'm going to give them a call tomorrow or maybe Friday as i have some plans tomorrow to organize this effort.

    Awesome video , the fxdr is much greater looking in person . In my opinion this bike is for someone coming off of a sports bike or a sport bike rider that likes the best of both worlds . This bike has stance and attitude, it's a sharp built bike . A bikes not always about speed or even comfort, it can be all about a bad ass bike that all about the bike and ride . If I didnt get a 2016 breakout , this bike or the vrod ot ot been it for me . The fxdr isnt a waste of time or money but than I never even rode one .

    The exhaust definitely needs to go, find a nice 2 into 1 like TBR or V&H, definitely one that can produce a nice deep tone. Personally I'd either keep the hugger, or find a better looking aftermarket one. One ride with no hugger in the rain will make you want to put it back on. It really is too expensive for what it is though. Personally I would almost prefer a Sport Glide, but with the 114 motor, the Sport Glide is great in corners as well and comfortable enough to tour on.

    Yeah... this is unfortunately what i was expecting. Priced to compete with the Ducati Xdiavel. But not enough HP, not enough performance, not enough fit and finish, etc, etc. I keep hoping HD is going to turn the corner. This thing won't compete with a 69ci Indian Scout that is $10,000.00 cheaper. At least HD is consistent...

    Honestly the Maine problem with this bike is the price tag but( also ) no back seat and it looks like you can't put a back seat? It is not a cruiser and for the price honestly not really worth it at all unless you wanted to dump over 20k for a track bike.

    These days, every biker makers from the 80cc to the 1,000+cc is rushing for LCD/TFT screen which in my opinion does not suit a bike especially the vision, as one has a split 1 seconds to check whatever, the analog rpm and odometer is now found only on a few bike maker sadly.

    Now you know why I love the performance of my 2018 FXLR (114). Light weight compared with a tourer, but with the bigger motor, wow! Accellation to past legal highway speeds very quickly. I disagree with your views on HD and them fitting stock mufflers. I have the HD SE mufflers (legal in almost every US states and in Australia ). As far as I am concerned, why should most customers suffer and have to pay for half decent sounding mufflers because of those minority States. Put the SE mufflers on the most bikes (as stock) and fit the California model bikes with the stock HD mufflers. If I can order a Mustang from a Ford dealer in Australia with Magnaride suspension, GT stripes, wheels of choice, colour of choice (all of which I can do so), then HD does not have any real excuse. We all know the real reason - more profit to HD. California and Europe with current HD stock exhaust, everywhere else SE exhaust. Everyone happy? You bet ya!

      Well you will be spending that on a new exhaust system. I just saw a brand new 2018 Fatbob with stock exhaust and it sounded like a Yamaha Bolt.

      @@BobSmith-sl9sm yes I would get new exhaust but that would be the case with any Harley I've had. Not just the fat bob.

    Should have made it more clear, one Harley generally changed in alternative years. One performance bike in the opposing years. Two bikes are double the fun and better to spend my cash on bikes rather than saving to spend my later life vegetating in a retirement home.

    Justin... I'd like to see a test ride on a 2019 Road Glide Ultra with the 114 motor. I currently ride an earlier model Road Glide and I'm very interested in the 2019 but concerned about the suspension. I'm an older rider and I need a soft ride. I've spent a lot of effort and $$ trying to get my older RG to ride softly. What younger riders might consider whimpy or spongy. Anyway, I'll look forward to your test ride and comments, Please send me a note with you complete it. Thanks, JP

      Oh its great if you change the handlebars, the ugly airbox, the ugly rear tire cover, put some mid controls on, dont mind the bad ergos.
      Dont mind the hunk of plastic that brings the eyes to the oil cooler thingy. Just those few things and it would be rideable, oh the huge ugly exhaust, gross. Do we need to go on? I'm sure there is lots more...

    Wow, so they managed to match the stock TQ specs of the 2008 Yamaha Raider. Impressive!!! I owned a Raider at the time my Father got the new 114" fat boy. It was close, but I was pulling him. I kinda felt like an asshole to be honest... He paid so much for that bike.

    Nice review but way overpriced! 21,000 plus tax & then another 5,000 for mods? That's insane, you can find a V-Rod w/low miles already modded for 7,000, more power, save 20 grand! I'm waiting for the Future Custom, hopefully Harley doesn't screw that up or I'll just stick with my old Sportser which is awesome!

    Kind of sad they don’t make Vrods anymore that was my dream future bike so they want to sell me this one but that price is a bit outrageous because of their bikes have radio with aux capacity and cost about around the same ranges which I think the math is wrong.

    Performance & handling look great, but stock riding position doesn't look very good & that tiny digital gauge & clip-on bars are almost as ugly as the exhaust. Good effort HD, but as a recent convert from sport bike to muscle cruiser, it's a NO from me.

    That bike needs a LOT of aftermarket work/changes made to be something that I'd be interested in....Like: get rid of that dumb rear fender, get rid of that exhaust replace with Thunderheader (if possible) Get rid of that bulky air intake (replace with something small that doesn't interfere with leg), get rid of those stupid looking turn signals (something small instead), replace forward controls for mid's. I hope there is a gel pac in that seat, if not add one. Then address the handlebars.... Clip-ons might work, but I'd have to sit on it to be sure..... Last, the price. What are they thinking at over 20k? Seriously? 15-17k is all I'd pay for this thing. They are seriously smoking crack. (which is probably why they are charging so much, cause crack gets expensive) The single biggest reason why Harley sales are declining is because they keep raising the price. I will never buy another new Harley until they come down in price. I paid through the nose once, never again.
