Thanks so much for this video - I know essentially nothing about speed skating but, having just read a NYT article on Stolz’s performance at Worlds, I was interested in learning more about his technique, as the article reported many people’s praise of it. Your video was completely comprehensible to a novice like me and left me understanding what it is about his technique that has impressed everyone. Just a great, clear explanation of what he does so well and why doing it well makes a difference. Thanks again 5:24 , and I hope your video gets a much wider audience - it deserves it.

Agreed! I just read the same article and did the same thing is you.
Thank you for the informative video. Would love to see one that compares his technique from a year ago vs. now to discuss any improvements or changes in that time.

I'm here after the NYT article too! I completely agree with you about this fascinating analysis.

I just want you guys to realize what a shock this guy brought to the ice skating world, it was legendary, beyond belief. All sports fans in the US should root for this guy. Its insane what he just did this weekend. This was Tiger Woods, MJ level of skill at such a young age.

The reason he has such great pressure on the skate in the turns and the lean position in the corner is the position of the blade mounting on the boot.
Many skaters use bend in blade to help them with corner positioin, with Jordan when I was coaching him, I found that moving the position of the blade makes the proper mechanical position for lean and push in the corner.
His short track upbringing makes this easy for him the relate to with speed and correct lean position in corner.
Many skaters dont think to use blade position to help with body position and push. Also all boots are different with their center mounting. Most people just look at the sewn in seam on the toe and think that is center, not true, and can creat problems with body position on straight and in corner.
All skaters I have coached or helped, I move blades to left of center in front and dead center in rear to get correct position after watching them skate, if you have done it a few times and know what to look for with body position with each stroke, it tells you how much to move.

Just like the old days...need the offset. But I can guarantee you Jordan has much more going for him than where the blade is. He keeps the blades off the ice when not in use. intuitive timing. Don't know who you are but if you coached him, great job!!

@cjs5666 are you talking about setting the blade with milimeters to the left or more? I studied Jordan his blades and especially his left blade is far to the left. Almost like short track boots. Is it the same with the right skate? Thanks for youre clarification.

What do you mean with at the sewn in seam on the toe?

Look at his right arm generating extra force on his left leg while it accelerates over his back spine. (Newton 3rd)

Aside from the continuing greatness of Brittany Bowe, it’s nice to see the US team with other strong skaters. Jordan, Erin Jackson, … Looking forward to the Olympics! Watching the World Cup weekly meets. 👍

USA is riding the inline wave but it is fading. This has been the feeder system for their on ice success over the past 20 years. Few USA successes come from the USS system. They are very shallow. A couple of bright spots, for sure. Hope to see great things n the future...
