Couple of reasons are: - In book [RoTK], after surprize attack at Wan Castle Cao Cao himself said that while he lost the oldest son [Cao Ang] and nephew [Cao An Min], he grieves about Dian Wei the most. It's not a secret that DW series is based more on the book, rather than real historical events...and in book Dian Wei is far more memorable character then many others - In China of that era filial piety was a mandatory part of upbringing for almost any child of more or less high-born family, thus it was expected. Had Cao Ang behave in different matter and did a lesser effort to save his father he would become a laughing stock for the end of his days [unless he'd use his father's death to gain the momentum and seize the power for himself, which would give just another tyrant]

I love that Dian Wei is a Scottish Japanese Chinaman. DW7 is by far the best (especially when you include Cao Cao's end scene) but the reflection scene in 9 was a nice surprise.
Dian Wei is more badass than Lu Bu... there I said it. Guy goes into a fight without a shirt, gets impaled by countless arrows and is still standing... that's what I call a true badass, someone who is resilient enough tio do what needs to be done whatever the circumstances, not just someone who is powerful and talented.
I have played my first Dynasty Warriors game and I have respected all the characters in there. Dian Wei is the best character ever, as all the rest of them, putting his life on the line when he should be living his life. But he'll never stop protecting others, and that's the best thing about Dian Wei

Leave it to the worst game of them all to get the cutscene the most accurate, DW 9. They were betrayed in the night and supposedly they even managed to steal Dian Wei's weapon(s) before the man woke up. That's supposedly a big part of why he died that night, and why he doesn't have it/them when he double pie-faces those 2 guys. I hate DW 7 the most, because Cao Cao waits so long to run. I mean this man is giving his life so you can live! Move your ass! We even see that the enemy has horses ready to charge as soon as Dian Wei falls, which he does shortly afterwards, when Cao Cao is still pretty much within sight...
Yeah, which should have been all along but 8 don't even understand why they stopped doing that in 8 and 9. I rather have quality than quantity in DW's.
It's kinda weird how Cao Cao's own son and nephew die yet Dian Wei gets mourned? I know that they weren't that major characters in the novel but then why do they even exist?
Cao Cao can have as many sons as he can, but there can only be 1 Dian Wei, that's why he mourns Dian Wei over his son Cao Ang Same situation with Liu Bei and Zhao Yun at Chang Ban, Liu Bei threw his son (a baby) to the ground n only worried about Zhao Yun safety bc to have a loyal n strong soldier like Zhao Yun is hard to get, while he can born as many son as possible to take over when hes dead.
Warriors who mostly have the body like a bodybuilder were already like that, since they all mostly do labor work or fight in battles and eat a whole lot in their everyday lives, especially their more physically and mental better than us in a different way in the old. While we modernized people use our body and minds differently what are ancestors has done. Side note of my tangent but I'm curious to actually know if any humans in the pass or present could destroy something durable with or without weapons.
