@Sheev Palpatine actually the reason I havent been making as many care and husbandry videos is because the views on those have been so low. In the time a Care video has reached 2k views, a top list will have received 5k views. The more time that passes, the greater that divide becomes. When sorted by most viewed of all time, 6 of the top 10 videos are top 10 videos, the other 4 are care videos but the care videos have been around over 2 years while the top 10 videos are a year or less. I appreciate comments like this that give feedback, it really helps a lot, but I also have to look at the analytics and not just how many views a video receives but also how long people watch, how much they engage, how many are new viewers compared to returning viewers, etc. Some videos are better for getting views through recommendations while others preform better through search. So I am trying to find a balance. I will definitely be making more searchable content, like care videos, in the future because that is one of the stated goals of the channel. But the channel had plateaued around 7k views a day for about 8 months of the past year...when I started making more top 10 videos and other types of videos...views per day jumped to nearly 14k a day. Watch duration, engagement, discovery, subscriber conversion, shares, essentially every analytic that has a positive effect starting increasing. So I have been expirmenting with different types of videos and studying the analytics to determine what people actually do, not just what they say, because actions carry much more weight than words and are the only measurable metric that matters. Some of the types of videos have failed miserably (isopod content and that asmr unboxing...lol) while others have really taken off (like this doc style and top 10 lists) so I am not abandoning care videos, I am just trying to find more ways to discover new viewers and introduce people to tarantulas that may not have any information or exposure to them before. Because the main goal of the channel, the mission statement, has always been: Introduce and attract more people to the Tarantula hobby and provide the most accurate information as possible in the most entertaining way as possible so others can discover the beauty of inverts and share in the fascination by helping to dispell the fear surrounding them. I know this is a long reply, but you left a very well-reasoned and thoughtful comment, so I think it deserves a thoughtful reply. Videos like the urticating hair vid, that are educational or how to videos, address questions I see a lot in the comments, messages and Facebook group. So it has become a balancing act to find topics that people are interested in watching right now or answer questions or address issues right now, weighed against content like care videos that are more there for when people need them later. Click able content vs searchable content. Care videos are definitely considered searchable bc a lot of people don't watch unless they have that species or are considering getting it in the near future. Months or years later, when they are getting that species they will search and discover and watch the video then. So those videos are important long term, but other styles are equally important short term. TLDR, I will definitely still be making care videos, just not as frequently. I am expirmenting with different types of videos to see what people respond to so I can better make content that will help attract people to and grow not just this channel, but the hobby in general.
Absolutely fantastic! I liked this documentary style, Richard! Thank you for including all that information on their life stages and habitat! I hope we get to see more just like this!
Glad you enjoyed it! I am working on similar videos like this for a few different species. I am trying to up the quality a little more so it is even more like a David Attenborough style documentary. So keep an eye out and if people respond well to the first few, then I will make even more.
Super professional, love these documentary style videos too. Can't wait to see more... a lot of people make care videos, but there's not many videos on the actual species themselves that go in more depth like this about their natural habitat, behavior, etc.. 🕷💕
Exactly, you keep tarantulas because you find them interesting, so having more info on them is always desired! It’s not like we get them to bond with like dogs. Although I’m sure some misguided soul has attempted to bond with a tarantula.
I own one female GBB, I highly recommend this species. Surprisingly easy to care for, spends a lot of time out of her burrow, the enclosure filled with the web is just amazing, feeding response is insane and also a great T for handling.
It’s here!! Waiting to unpack, expecting cylinder 4inch tarantula crib enclosure for slings to arrive!!! Gonna build up some small drift wood pieces so she(hopeful) Webb up nicely. I respect the time that goes into the vids!! Beautiful piece. Can you do a new vid on the Brazilian black? 🤓
Honestly this was an amazing video. I really appreciate the documentary style vibe it has. You have a great voice for documentary style voice overs. Great production value and very informative, I hope you do more videos like this!
Thanks a lot my friend! I am going to try and out a video out like this at least once a month. It is pretty intensive to shoot, edit, research and write...but it was also A LOT of fun and people seem to be enjoying it. So there is definitely more to come!
@@tarantulacollective I have no doubt. It looks like it was a lot of effort, but i think it definitely paid off. I definitely would have loved a video like this when first getting into the hobby. As much as I like the in hobby husbandry aspect, the more natural history approach to learning about them is something I really enjoy. Congratulations on passing the 70k sub mark by the way!!
This channel is amazing. My little girl got her first spider three months ago and did a show and tell on zoom. She watched these videos of yours non stop and her classmates were absolutely glued. I think spiders might have a few more little fans in her classmates now. She also won the award for the best show and tell this school year. She is nine and without this channel and finding her love for spiders, she would of missed out on getting one. I’m slowly getting use to Dave the spider as she says, ‘what’s not to love?’ I’m not quite there yet but this spider has made my daughters eyes shine a bit brighter. She has a very rare disease and goes through more than what most adults ever will. You’ve made a little girls life a bit better and wanted you to know. Autumn-belle adores your channel and you have a lifelong fan. ❤️
Thank youso much for taking the time to leave a comment and let me know! Be sure to tell Autumn-belle and Dave the spider I say "HELLO" and send them my best!
Damn I missed the premier of this, but really enjoyed watching afterwards. Loved hearing the background history of the GBB. Beautiful tarantula. Thank you for this interesting insight of an interesting tarantula. Take care Richard.
Yeah Richard! Top stuff - very professional, absolutely engaging and full of... well everything wonderful & exciting about tarantulas! Do not stop making these, you are onto something for sure. 😊👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was awesome! Been wanting this beauty since I was a kid but had no idea what their name was until middle school. My mom said no 🤣 I have a feeling hubs ordered one for our anniversary. Love the organization, music and information your vids are always a pleasure to watch! Ty for all u do!
Righteous Edit Richard!!! The new documentary style is sick!! I'd still pop in visually periodically whether that be narrating or a wide angle of you feeding a GBB, or even a clip of you at a reptile expo looking at GBB. The nature shots are awesome.. they just need you in them hunting for spider dens! I'd dress up like Indiana Jones, you'd look legit AF with that beard!!!!

Keep up the awesome job on bringing us all your weekly vlogs and videos every week I truly appreciate what time you take to share all of what you bring to us.

I got my first GBB sling two weeks ago. I'm completely obsessed with it. It's...sweet? It hasn't bolted, it eats great, it makes fun webs, and when I first unpacked it it just climbed up my arm real casual like. On top of that, it's stunning! Already so in love.
Ohhh...this was such a treat to watch after sculpting and sanding so much yesterday. I get so fatigued after working on art. This helped me persuade myself to kick back and relax today. Lovely vibes. 😌

Wow! That was the most informative and interesting video about GBBs I have ever watched! I bought one in Sept. 2019 as a tiny thing and now she's at least 6" DLS and is the QUEEN out of my five tarantulas. She's the biggest also and so far I've lucked out and got ALL females. YAAAASSSSS! Yes!!! I love the natural history information. A lot of tarantula videos focus on husbandry, but very few discuss their natural habitat or adaptations to that habitat. The info on the GBB's color was especially interesting.
I’ve got 2 gbbs and they are the only ones I can’t quit using their common names for and the only ones that hair me every chance they get. Mine are crazy but beautiful.

I finally got one at an expo yesterday, there were quite a few to choose from but I went with a sling because they are so lovely as well. I want to watch it molt, grow and change. Thanks for your videos, I really enjoy them and find them both informative and well done!
You did a fantastic job on this video. Videos like these will also help educate people on the individual species from a more documentary style perspective. It really compliments your care and husbandry videos.
Thanks! That is what I was going for. I wanted make a video to educate people that they would find interesting, especially if they were keeping tarantulas and just wanted some info. Something a teacher could show to kids in a classroom
I really enjoyed this style of video. I'm planning on getting a GBB as my first tarantula and learning about their natural history is very valuable. Thank you for making this!
I have 5 of these STUNNING beauties in my collection and I love this species ! The video was great and had very useful information on the GBB . I really enjoyed seeing the natural habitat in which they live. A GREAT JOB !!
I have two C. cyaneopubescens spiderlings and they are amazingly beautiful! I love how they have different characters and behave differently! Truly amazing animals indeed!
Okay I'm like dying from how well done and beautiful this was. I feel like there isn't enough informative videos like this and I'd love to see more, or at least similar videos.
This style of video is awesome. It was full of info and having so many clips or the spider was wicked. I loved that even had some pictures and video of their native habitat. I think every once in a while you should make a video like this, it was really well done. Plus, I'm never going to complain about a video that has classical music and T's.

I finally got one at an expo yesterday, there were quite a few to choose from but I went with a sling because they are so lovely as well. I want to watch it molt, grow and change. Thanks for your videos, I really enjoy them and find them both informative and well done!
Just picked up my first on Sunday! Glad to say you got me into the hobby Richard
I am getting a GBB sling tomorrow and I am so excited! This video helped me be more prepared to what I'll be expecting from this T. Love your videos!
Love the new documentary style... keep it up!! 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Great info. And amazing shots of this beautiful animal. Thank you. On to the husbandry video!
Love this style of editing, thanks so helpful for me and my GBB
Adore new style of video, nice to see natural habitat. Music also fits soo well. Good job, Richard! 👌🏻🥰 I would love to see more videos like this.
Also forgot, M. Balfouri next for my vote. I always need more Balfouri videos. 🤣
This style of video is awesome. It was full of info and having so many clips or the spider was wicked. I loved that even had some pictures and video of their native habitat. I think every once in a while you should make a video like this, it was really well done. Plus, I'm never going to complain about a video that has classical music and T's.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video. I have 2 other videos like this and I am working on 2 more. You can watch the ones that are already out here: ruclips.net/p/PLjBrtja7Q8uhos5c0u-GRVIydAnPnNd6t
I love this format, awesome work 👍🏻👍🏻 keep it up.
Thanks! Will do!
