I got 4 marines to level 10 on Dead Hills before completing it as I figured out how to grind. Finished everything except the "going into the mine" part of the mission. Then would part my ARC outside the bar, set up sentry guns around it, and then trigger all three massive onslaughts (3 XP) and if you can, kill the 2 class 2 Xenos (2 XP) - for a possible 5 XP per mission. Because it's the first mission, you raise the infestation level, but you can do as many deployments as you want (as the countdown clock doesn't start until mission 3 or 4). There is a place near where the ARC is parked where you can weld a door to de-stress your marines. You also pick up a ton of xeno material.
Killing the class 2 Xenos never gave me XP. But otherwise, yeah. You leave XP on the table if you don't trigger all three Massive Onslaughts before you leave a deployment. And it's generally not hard to weather them, if you've got yourself set up near the ARC/APC with a defensive line of sentry turrets.
@@TheLanceUppercut The trick is your marines have to be the ones that take it down - you can't use sentry guns or the APC to do it. That way you'll reliably get the XP. I went into mission 4 in the end with 10 marines on level 10 after I figured out I wanted high level drone dudes to be able to scout most of a level before I went anywhere dangerous.
just got this on steam sale for only 20 quid, bloody great game, the sniper with a suppressor is a must! silently take out an alien without alerting the horde
I like to do what I call Hive Shaker deployments where I redeploy to a previously completed sector like Dead Hills or Berkley Docks where I basically do what you told us not to do and start fights with aliens in order to get through onslaughts and kill Category 2 Xenos. It doesn't award much XP but it is fun as hell and it's a decent way to farm xeno samples, or to grab supplies we previously left behind, but if you're pressed for time because of infestation or because of the death clock that's introduced down the line, you can forego it. I really only did it for the times I played on streams featuring marines that were avatars for community mutuals and such to give them screen time.
Thanks for the info. I'm early in the campaign but I've already been putting my marines through hell trying to earn xp via clashing with as many aliens as possible
Yep. I wiped my team on the first mission yesterday doing that. Good to know it's absolutely pointless. That kinda harshes my vibe though. Why have an Aliens game where you're supposed to NOT fight the aliens?
Thanks. Sure as hell I just started the game and I was going to do what I usually do in rpgs, level up my characters first by killing monsters or whatever. So thanks to this video I know that won’t work.👍
I love so much these mass onslaughts that sometimes between missions I return to Dead Hills. There's this corridor between the comm center and the admin building that is a natural choke point. I usually set up turrets, mine the whole corridor and bait xeno into that. With the APC at the souther entrance (mined too) to secure backs. Last time AI was so broken it sent out 30 or more xeno on the last wave and they won't enter the corridor no matter what. 🤣🤣🤣 I love it.
I must politely disagree, grinding out massive onsloughts and category 2 xenomorphs (Crushers&Praetorians) can be a viable early game method for gaining xp. Even if our interpretations of the data differ, thank you for providing it.
dunno if you really need that much exp in game. I started game at max difficulty, running all missions in single run (except 1st as it scripted to return later) with ~8-9 ppl in rotation. So my max level is 8 scout, few 6 and others are 4-5. I'm on "Atmospheric Nightmare" mission currently, so maybe i'll get one or two to 10s, but overall game is super easy even on last difficulty w/o grind. There are lots of mechanics i learned in midgame so overall it can be even easier if i want to replay the game and do staff more efficient (and also knowing scripted encounters etc).
yeah, the best improvement you can made for playthrough - is to rotate all marines in early missions (before completing pioner) to get them to 3 level so you can exclude all medics and techs from rotation lately as they are useless compared to op sergeants and strong heavies. I would recommend 2-3 serg +1 scout (mandatory) +1-2 heavies as best performant team with infinite stress-immunity skill spam.
finished game, deployed on last mission with second squad (10-8-7-7-5 levels) (i didn t know how many missions left and timer was 11 days left, so i take mission with second squad to ensure i'm in time), w/o heavies and only one sergeant. Still was kinda easier walk except having hard time waiting for command points to regenerate to snipe enemies in time. At the end i have 3 marines get to 10 level: 1 scout and 1 heavy were resting at otago, and 1 serg on mission due to no-tired perk. => My thoughts on leveling stays as expected - the game really not about it, the requirement for comfort walkthrogh is level 6 sergeant with stress-immunity skill and level 3 scout with silent kill +visors. Get flamethrower, get mines (useful in some situations where it's hard to snipe). Even 10 level isn't necessery, scout's ability at 10 is nice quality of life addition, while other classes have literally nothing interesting at 10 level. Medics and tekkers are completely useless - the only useful skill to hack can be compensated with someone else getting smart-ass perk.
I know putting "BEST" in the video title only serves as a way to help the video get noticed when people are searching because "BEST" is they keyword that most people use. If these are the best ways to earn XP, then what are the better ways? But there are no better ways, is there? Because all ways to gain XP have already been said in the video: 1. Mission Objectives 2. Massive Onslaughts 3. Bosses 4. Intensive Training Not trying to be a dick, just trying to make sense out of it.
I haven’t played through the whole game yet so I’m not sure if this is absolutely every way to earn xp so putting BEST, yes it helps the video get noticed but these are also the best ways I’ve actually found from what I’ve played so far 👍
It’s nice that you’re telling players this before they keep getting into fights and realize it does nothing for them.
Was doin that earlier dammit lmao
You actually do get xp for kills but only if you finish a hunt, onslaught or lvl 2 kill with your weapons or command point

Man i love you for this info

You won't run out bullets? Or if you redeploy many times, the infestation will be high because your marines may need number of days to recover

To the point, concise and informative. The BEST kind of youtube guide.
🙏

Kinda lame how killing aliens doesnt give exp lol.

Doing main and secondary objectives surviving onslaughts and dropping elites drones crushers hive guardians ("witch you can spam ") and queens.
surviving onsloughts give 1 xp, just like the lvl2 xenomorphs
Yeah my first play through I was really playing it wrong lol.
Thanks. Sure as hell I just started the game and I was going to do what I usually do in rpgs, level up my characters first by killing monsters or whatever. So thanks to this video I know that won’t work.👍

What do the engineers do on the ship???
The dogtags bring exp? I missed that somehow, thanks ♡
You’re welcome 👍
Nice video and explanation. New subscriber💪🏼
Thank you for subscribing 💪
How many onslaught can I do? can I repeat it?
Nice guide 👍
Thank you 👍

Throw some Brotatos at them!! 😎😎
I plan to throw lots at them 😎😎
There needs to be a Brotato called Hudson

Didn’t know captain jack sparrow played games
WHAT IN THE WORLD IS XP ???.....listen, i am stuck , i cannot launch another mission because i do not have enough days , HOW DO I FIX THAT
I can see you aren't an MMO or RPG player, XP is just short for experience.
Skill issue and definitely not your game lol
