  • These little birds can do a lot of damage...but even when they peck metal, it is NOISY. So a little simple tip for you guys, requiring only string, a little duct tape, and a couple piece of aluminium to get rid of woodpeckernoise no matter where the woodpecker is hanging out.

Update: the Woodpecker never came back to the chimney with this solution applied! Though after a couple weeks, cause i only attached them with duct tape, the plates fell off in a wind storm lol...but still no woodpecker back so far. And to anyone who thinks I generated more noise by hanging those things - no, it is actually FAR less noise than the woodpecker, and far less penetrating.

We had exactly the same problem. The wee bugger was drumming on our outside bedroom metal gutter. 6.30 am..
Also out up some foil baking pans and silver foil tape..he has came back once or twice but it's better. The bloody wind keeps flipping the bake pans up onto then roof. Good luck .

That's funny you said that about 8:00 a.m. LOL
I was going to sleep in today but I guess the damn woodpecker isn't today, I've tried old CDs I've tried shiny stuff they are very determined ugh... So frustrating...
It seems like whenever I am just starting to fall back asleep, it's a damn thing comes back...
Oh, but of course it does not come by the days that I need to get up early 🤔 maybe that's because more people are out idk...
Seems like I will scare it away and it'll be gone for a little bit and then I have heard a couple times I think my neighbors yelling at it because soon after I will hear it on my home again ughh...

Also another thing, my home is made of all wood siding, I've been here since 2016, and I've had woodpecker problems and tried many different things, there's holes all over the damn place even though I have people come to fix it whenever I can.

They do this specifically because it makes their pecking so much louder. The HVAC guy said to put rubber on the top so it would deaden the sound the next time it pecked. One rubber turntable mat later... silence.

Where we used to live years ago we would be treated with the machine gun sound of these woodpeckers pecking on our rain gutters. Soon as early Spring came around each year they would start around 6am. You could hear them answering each other, as another one would be drilling on the rain gutter of a nearby house. They only did it in early Spring, so maybe it was some kind of mating call to attract each other.

I'm definitely no authority on the subject, just thinking of possibilities. There are some pretty thick mats used for people to stand on, etc. But I was thinking the woodpeckers might not want to peck on it because it doesn't have the metal sound. Also, the ones here who love hammering on the metal shed only do so for a short while. I assume they find the mate they were possibly calling and move on to raising a family. Anyway, the hammering on the metal stops and I hear them on the poles, trees, etc. getting insects.

I am not a fan of Woodpeckers or Doves. I have had both. The Doves coo in the morning and I have them from time to time now. I haven't yet been able to see them at work because by the time I get up and get to it they are gone. In the past I have eliminated them and will do that again. As to the Woodpecker, the last one I had a problem with was pecking away at a knot I had in the painted Cedar siding of an earlier house. I made a small hand slingshot using rubber bands and a women's metal hair clip as a projectile. You just pull back on the clip. We used to make them as kids. Directed, high velocity fire that is easy to control and accurate but not damaging. It "discouraged" the Woodpecker and eliminated the problem. I am not likely to hang anything on top of the house to make noise. I have a tree line behind my house and you can hear them there. I wasn't aware it was part of their mating call. No internet back in those early days.

You really should reconsider using pellet guns in favor of less destructive means. The reason being that pallets are bad idea is of course the lead contained in them. Should a predator or a vulture gets ahold of that bird, that animal or God forbid and eagle, would get lead posing. An animal needlessly suffering because of a thoughtless act of cruelty towards what ends up the predator's dinner.
If you think that's nothing that you are interested in apex predators such as eagles, I encourage you to check out RUclips channel Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah, which was founded by Martin Tyner, who is a federally licensed Falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, and of sorts an educator. Seriously, this man and his wife Susan are amazing with the work they do when it comes to rescuing, rehabbing and releasing apex predators.
