We have one that has pecking on our roof almost everyday for the past month - in the early morning. It scared me half to death the first time I heard it as this is my first time dealing with one. I hope it will eventually stop.
Lol....He'll be back with a metal penetrating beak... Every morning I hear Woodpeckers, Cardinals, Blue Jays, Mocking Birds, Crows, Doves, Sparrows, Wrens, etc. Thank Almighty God for the millions upon millions of his creations.
I have one in my neighborhood pecking at my roof vent in early spring. The sound can be heard fifty feet away. I first thought my house was haunted or somebody was using a drone as a prank. I would like to get rid of it but its against the law. It is an endangered species and I understand why because its a nuisance.
They do this in my neighborhood on the street light covers and sometimes it sounds like a machine gun! Northern Flickers here in Oregon. Sometimes I think they do it to attract a mate because I think they know the metal is not a nest building material.
I've had that happen on my bedroom window before, and I was sleeping so good, I was so mad! I had to bang on the window pane to scare the lil thing off, then laugh it off.
Chris Schulz I’ve had one doing that on my siding/gutters for over a week now. Every morning between 6:00 and 8:00, he starts up! And now that the kids have school shut down, I would really like to stay asleep then, so this little guy is ANNOYING when he does that!
DearJRenae They sounds like a machine gun when they do that, too! Believe me, that doesn’t help the situation one bit, especially if you’re somebody that spooks easily!
SaraChehabx Same. It just started for me. The bird would be on my brother’s side near his room then it came over here. It is literally here just in the morning then it goes away.
I’ve just watched several of these wdpkr vids, one after the other. This is the only wpkr with a rhythm, and a longer drum. Would probably appreciate a tuned steel drum.
Not nessecarily. I'm not entirely familiar with this species of woodpecker, but I know that a lot of woodpecker species use drumming as the equivalent of a song to attract a mate or mark territory.
Hi :) I work for a show 'SBS (Seoul Broadcasting System from South Korea) TV animal farm'. I'm wondering if we could include your video in our upcoming weekly show's opening for full credit. I hope to recieve your positive reply. Thank you.
Yes, and I’m glad this video could help your production. And once it’s aired, you may send me your program’s recording. I can be reached with wang277960@comcast.net / Alexander
This video: a woodpecker is tapping the roof. Most of the comments: another day, another woodpecker/Annoying little pests/he’s trying to attract a mate. Me, an Irishman: *wait, you guys get woodpeckers?*
How did you get it to stop :( any damage...? I'm going through this right now...with tons of snow and ice happening every 3 days...no food, not mating season...wth...
STURGISJAI He is either looking for a mate or protecting territory. They often use siding or roofs because they make such a loud, resonating sound , the effect they are after. They can also peck on houses if you have a large bug infestation, but more than likely this is about territory/mating. Try hanging a fake owl decoy if the noise is that disruptive or you see signs of damage. Some idiots posted cruel (not to mention illegal and just simply stupid) “solutions”. Please ignore them. He isn’t looking to bore a hole in your house . I have had one doing this every morning for the past few days right outside my bedroom at between 6:30-7:00 am and again just before dusk . The way I see it is that they are forced to live with us destroying so much of their environment with all of the trees we have decimated to build our homes (not to mention pesticides killing >7 million songbirds per year); I can be tolerant and compassionate and live with him doing what he needs to do to survive 😉.
Get a super soaker and try to squirt them by surprise. Or bang on the wall from inside your house to scare them away. But you will have to be persistent. When they see that you bang on the wall immediately after they start pecking, every single time, they eventually will give up. That was my experience last year. But one thing you can't do legally is kill them as the Migratory Bird Act imposes stiff fines if you do.
he is probably inspecting to make sure the human made materials and construction is woodpecker proof..
I HEAR THOSE THINGS IN THE MORNING PECKING AT THE LIGHT POLE
Thanks for sharing
My toddler has been bewildered about the noises from our walls.
She even tried to have me move the hutch to investigate
lol thanks to this bird, whoever passes by this house would duck in cover thinking that the homeowner is firing a machine gun

'Say 'ello to my little friend!'
It's neat. His drill is way different than a pileated...

@@cessilyschwa This is how the mates call to each other. "I'm over here now!".

Its a territorial thing that they peck on something load for the other birds to hear and stay away.
Theres one nailing my siding/ fence posts right now. Very distracting when you're trying to sleep lol

@@dragondancer1814 it scared me today. I had no idea what it was. My husband told me maybe it's a bird & the light bulb went off.

I am learning Japanese It’s been going on for a week here, and it always wakes me up earlier than I want to be. He’s driving me CRAZY!

hes like :''WAKE UP MADAFFF.....''!
Sound's like automatic gun fire some times.
Exactly what I hear certain times of the day- sounds like someone knocking- I thought it was a roof rat in TampaBay Fl. Thanks for the video
They do that to mark territory.
This was a sign of God that you had to get up and go in his house on Sunday ! :)
Effin Woody Woodpecker!!!
It will be alright . You have 2 layers of shingles on your home !
I would be getting headache from doing this 😂
When a woodpecker pecks on your house, its time to call the pesticide company. You have termites or other bug infestations that these birds eat.

That's a gutter. The roof is that thing with shingles on it
Looks like a Red Headed to me but if I'm incorrect it'd be Red Bellied.
Waikey waikey!! Dady's home! 😂🤣
sounds like an AK-47
Every morning I hear something like a drill on the roof of my house. Pisses me off and wakes me up. Solutions?
i could swear there was a spirit knocking on my walls until one day he came to hit on my window
Correction I believe that’s called a rain gutter not a roof
Wow!!!!
Sounds like a machine gun.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
How does one head bang that fast?
