This is why I love American sports fans. We immediately love the great human beings in sport without regard for nationality. Ono is awesome. Great gutsy interview CP.

Tell that to the great wrestlers and great humans from Iran, Russia, and other countries who are politically opposed or have some kind of conflict with the US. American sports fans are much more likely to accuse them of cheating, using PEDs, etc. Ono is popular with Americans because he is making an effort to communicate; he does interviews like this in English, making himself accessible. How much love from Americans did you see for Japanese wrestlers like Rei Higuchi (57kg Olympic Champ) or Kotaro Kiyooka (65kg Olympic Champ), who, by the way, teched Ono to take the 65kg spot for Japan. Jumping sports, how much US love do you see for the Japanese boxer Nayoa Inoue, perhaps the best p4p boxer in the world?

@ I think we do. For example Americans LOVE Karelyn. Loved Vasily Alexiev. Loved the entire Soviet Olympic hockey team. Loved Olga Korbut. None spoke much English. Americans love champions. And you know this.

@@David-q3x9k Are you Rip van Winkle or something? You do realize that the Soviet Union disintegrated in 1992, 32 years ago, right? Olga Korbut! She competed for the USSR in 1972 and 1976! How about Sadulaev, one of the greatest wrestlers still competing? On wrestling forums today, Americans are more likely to accuse him of doping or lying about his age when he was younger. Not too much love for him from the US, especially since he just crushed David Taylor and has gotten the best of Kyle Snyder repeatedly.
