Average 11.0 BR Tornado experience: 1) Rush bomb → your teammates are faster → teammates die → bomb → back to hanger → teammates bomb → back to hanger → you are faster → get tked → back to hanger 2) Side fly to avoid initial chaos → team disintegrates instantly → bomb → back to hanger → back to hanger → enemy disintegrates instantly → back to hanger 3) Go aerial superiority → back to hanger During the above process you might get a few air kills here and there, but results are very inconsistent, with most probable kills being 9Ls on oblivious enemies and head-ons

If we had bases respawning at a reasonable speed again, It wouldnt be a problem simply because you can just use the plane as a bomb grinder in air RB. Sadly... tornados in general are just in a meh position. You either 1) rush the base to bomb it risking SARH/AIM54 death or 2) you circle out a bit to dodge those... and somebody else bombs the bases.

People would go to bomb the bases in waves then join the fight, no teamkills, no panic rushing bases into suicide, etc. Simply the fastest would drop bombs and fight, the mid speed guys would drop bombs then fight, then the slow boys would drop bombs then fight. No J out, no TK, no fighting allies. Hell imo there was more proper fights simply because people didnt need to hide on the edge of the map for 5 minutes for the bases to respawn, including bombers going for a 2nd run. I know when I was using my buccaneer in that I would mount 1 AAM, drop my bombs, fire my sidewinder B and then RTB and quickly back into combat. At top tier I was enjoying my tornado dropping all bombs successfully without fighting for a base then join the dogfight. edit: Also, do you really think you dont have 90% of the team carrying bombs/rockets, especially when new planes are added/during events? If you think they go only AAM you are not looking around on take off lmao.

The delayed manoeuvreing is the same in sim aswell, you can be going transonic on the deck and still have to maintain like 3° AoA which makes flying low a pain. Which is funny cause the thing was SPECIFICALLY designed for low flight....

Something like the F-104 was designed for air superiority, even though it is a missile. Lockheed specifically gave it decent maneuverability at supersonic speeds. WVR scooters tend to fly a lot less confidently when it's pitch black and pissing rain/sleet/snow. Heaters also go away in Euromet. 2. Give the game genuine, campaign style, gameplay so that bases which are hit do not launch/spawn a ton of more players, this will reduce the missile spam problems of top tier because a lolo Tornado which spawns in at 600 knots with a pair of JP.233 or MW-1 on the centerline can not only make his mission count in a SINGLE PASS down the ramp and taxiways, he attrite the bad guys air, ultra-quick. 3. As part of the above, put COLUMNS of vehicles on roads, so that you can block their movement with bridge strikes (Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG/Tomahawk MRASM/LLAD) and then use particularly the MW-1 to just zap them all, as they sit, behind a downed span. 4. As part of the above, *Add Fixed Site GBAD*. SA-2-3-6-11 at least. This means GR.1 with the ALARM mod (X4 to X11 missiles, depending on fuel and countermeasures) and the ECR (X4 HARM plus internal jammer with ELS/IRLS) so Tornado players can uniquely find and kill battery engagement radars and provide target-spotting datalink handoff to other jets to bomb what's left, Hunter:Killer style (this opens up the way to the F-4G as well...). i.e. Make the damn thing useful by letting it do the missions which it was capable of. Not what it was not. IDS stands for Interdiction Strike. That means ground pounding with anything from cluster munitions to PGM to nukes. It does not mean Red Baron with a MiG-21/29/Su-27. MRCA was a 1970s development airframe folks. If you want the ADV (Air Defense Variant) mission then design something like an Atlantic Approaches attack where you are hitting Tu-22M and Tu-16, on their way to nail REFORGER convoys or, alternately, as they try to OCA shut down places like RAF Lossiemouth and USAF Keflavik. With nukes as an option to very fast Kh-22 strikes. Get as many archers as you can before their arrows turn your airbase into a moonscape of 40ft wide craters. Throw in some MiG-31 or Su-27 escorts, with Il-78 Midas Tankers, to make it 'interesting'. Gaijin has a basic free for all air RB mission set but no real sense of tactical game play with sequential missions equalling operational win:lose outcomes (airbases knocked, fly further, tank columns advance, less SP for the mission set) with added survivor rewards for victory through multiple missions as a mini-campaign.
I bought this premium specifically because I’m a big fan of the tornado. I enjoy having a Tornado that I can use to grind SL more efficiently than my tech tree ones. And even I don’t know why Gaijin didn’t just sell this exactly to me, and tried to market this to normal players.

If you bounce in and out of that speed its downright confusing as your plane shifts back and forward between being useless and decent.

It might be a complete boat, only carry 2 AA missiles and not really excel at any one thing, but I kinda like the Tornado and I seem to do ok in it. I have the IDS reward variant with the kormorans, which are perfect for cleaning people up on their airfield.
One of the most infuraiting parts of this airframe is the elevator. Like The F3 pulls a little harder. But ive had the elevator on the right or left get shot off. Even if thats the only damage on the plane your just done in a dive. The other one with try to pull you out of it. But unless your high up and need like 10 degrees your kinda SoL the thing will just plow dead into the ground. Your better off trying to use the rudder to pull out of the dive. Also the only way ive found that you even have a chance of getting a F16 or something similar off your ass is the Thrust Reversers. Drop air brakes, Thrust reveresers and they will over speed you, they just can't match the deceleration. The issue is now your super slow and food for everything else. Plus theres a good 10 second window where they can just tear you out of the sky with guns.
Your fight against the F-16 in the end gave me flashbacks of trying to dogfight MiG-17s in a Vautour. It was definitely cock and ball torture at the time, but now years later I'm kind of nostalgic about it
Can't wait until Gaijin gives us the Tornado GR4 and A-200C (Italian IDS MLU) with ASRAAMs and a ton more air-to-ground ordnance. This thing has felt gimped since it was first introduced. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The GR1, A-200A, and ASSTA1 should've come alongside the MiG-23 and F-14A, not fucking F-16s and MiG-29s.
Yeah the only thing that isn't bad about the Tornado's maneuverability is the roll rate, everything else is excruciatingly slow. Also, this thing should be used with 12 1000Lb bombs, 2 AIM-9L, and the large caliber countermeasures. It is supersonic so you should go around the side of the map and swoop in when the bases respawn, this playstyle is boring but it has always served me well in the event Tornado and I am pretty sure the tornados have identical airframes.
The F3 is slightly different, The fusalage has gaps for the Super Temps, Dont have to carry the flare pods. IRL the Airframe is slightly longer allowing it to pull harder. I think in game its slightly longer. Long story short, it turns slightly better and has the Best air to air loadout for them. IF gaijin wants to go all out they also Carried 9Ms IRL. I also think they got upgraded engines at some point but in game they arent there. I honestly can say i Love the F3 and think its one of the best 11.3s in the game. The issue is, it can't compete above 11.7. But in a 10.3 match its funny watching planes have no chance attempting to avoid the Super Temp. And even if they do your gone and can carry a fuck ton of flares. I think the other Fighter varient might share some of the upgrades but im unaware as ive only played the Event one, the GR1 and the F3
I will commit particular things involving myself and certain rapid-burning smokeless powder if Gaijin never addresses the damage of 27mm cannon. In my experience Mausers never straight up yeet planes as other cannons. They only cripple modules and engines and set everything on fire.
Is there a suggestion that this is actually how the plane handled in real life? Everything I've seen from combat pilots suggests they really liked the Tornado!
To be fair it's a great grinder. You see no 12.3, the two missiles you have are great and you get a base almost every game if you choose a proper loadout.
It's a great grinder, it's not a fun plane but it's easy to get 20k rp a game. 1v1 fights are doable but there's just no point in trying since you'll just get third partied. After i get one or two bases i just stay fast and low and pick off one or two people, if you have this do not slow down or you're just gonna die. Really you just have to do what it was designed for, bomb things and intercept
Im glad it got moved down. Now it basically beats most allied planes too bases except maybe F111 Aardvarks But i feel like its more of a One and done base Grinder unless youre quick enough.
The way I would play this is more as a low level bomber that can also fight. This thing is basically a German aardvark you want to fly stupid ass low and fast then bomb a base or two and then rtb or try to go air to air. I would personally get this over the lazur (when it's on sale of course) but mostly because this thing fits my playstyle better then the lazur and also it's at least a partially German vehicle. If I want to fly and grind with a Russian vehicle, I'd play Russia. Regardless, there's not much to really grind for unless you want to get ready for when the typhoon or maybe the F4 ICE or something gets announced
F-16 has much better flight performance but no IRCCM missiles, only two max aim-7s I believe less countermeasures pops, but better RWR. I’d say the J-11 is better at the moment
i'm not quite understanding how the external fuel tanks and the other pylons always stay facing forward when the wing sweep varies? are the pylons on a rotator that turns to make sure its still aerodynamic? otherwise it seems like sweeping the wings would tear whatevers on the pylons off
I remember checking the marketplace price of the Marinefleiger Tornado after the update came out and it just made me laugh at the fools that overpaid for less. The marinefleiger is cheaper and at least comes with anti ship missiles (you'll never use).
Its wierd seeing this video and comments cause i understand it technically isnt great but ive had good luck with it, guns work well for me and i bombrun and then cut in to engage to main fight, but hey, we all have preferance and opinion

When they added the Tornado i was ecstatic until i flew it and realized it was like flying a school bus with a casserole as the controls.

Is there a suggestion that this is actually how the plane handled in real life? Everything I've seen from combat pilots suggests they really liked the Tornado!

To be fair it's a great grinder.
You see no 12.3, the two missiles you have are great and you get a base almost every game if you choose a proper loadout.
It's a great grinder, it's not a fun plane but it's easy to get 20k rp a game. 1v1 fights are doable but there's just no point in trying since you'll just get third partied. After i get one or two bases i just stay fast and low and pick off one or two people, if you have this do not slow down or you're just gonna die. Really you just have to do what it was designed for, bomb things and intercept
Im glad it got moved down. Now it basically beats most allied planes too bases except maybe F111 Aardvarks But i feel like its more of a One and done base Grinder unless youre quick enough.
The way I would play this is more as a low level bomber that can also fight. This thing is basically a German aardvark you want to fly stupid ass low and fast then bomb a base or two and then rtb or try to go air to air. I would personally get this over the lazur (when it's on sale of course) but mostly because this thing fits my playstyle better then the lazur and also it's at least a partially German vehicle. If I want to fly and grind with a Russian vehicle, I'd play Russia. Regardless, there's not much to really grind for unless you want to get ready for when the typhoon or maybe the F4 ICE or something gets announced

F-16 has much better flight performance but no IRCCM missiles, only two max aim-7s I believe less countermeasures pops, but better RWR. I’d say the J-11 is better at the moment

IMO they either need to lower the BR, or straight buff the plane, be it give 2 extra AIM 9L's plus airframe buffs overall certainly turn time.

i'm not quite understanding how the external fuel tanks and the other pylons always stay facing forward when the wing sweep varies? are the pylons on a rotator that turns to make sure its still aerodynamic? otherwise it seems like sweeping the wings would tear whatevers on the pylons off

I remember checking the marketplace price of the Marinefleiger Tornado after the update came out and it just made me laugh at the fools that overpaid for less. The marinefleiger is cheaper and at least comes with anti ship missiles (you'll never use).

tornado has radar assisted guns, so if you have the plane and suffer (like me) use the radar to help you with gun kills

Why does this thing fly like what the guys from the US Constant Peg program say the MiG 23 flies!? The more time passes, the more I'm convinced the "realistic" part of this game pertains to the fact the vehicles visually resemble real world ones and nothing else.
