Thank you, Kathy. You did a very good tutorial. I started cross stitching in 1977, when my first daughter was born.. I made a birth sampler. My mother opened a cross stitch shop around 1981 in Florida, called The Cardinal's Workshop and my father did the framing for the shop. You are right, cross stitch has changed (backstitching), but I never get tired of stitching. My mother and father had their shop for 25 years. Lisa, when I first saw you on tv, you were on with Mary Fons. I remember that you told her that you used to cross stitch, but that it took too long. Well, I'm glad you are getting back into it. You can do quilting, wool applique and cross stitch! This was a great tutorial for beginners and those who haven't done it in a long time (refresher). I began this art of needlework in the 1960's... 60+ years ago... have completed sew many kits! To me, the most remembered kit was of Jesus' hands, in brown & beige colors. I placed it into a clock & had it engraved for my parents' wedding anniversary. I also used a short zig-zag stich on my sewing machine all of the way around, to decrease fraying. Now, I use my Serger four thread stitch to encase the the edges.
This was a great video. Loved the demonstration on using the floss drops and also the 9" wooden board for the floss. There were more great ideas, but these two really stand out for me. :) I'm looking forward to more videos.

Thanks Lisa and Kathy for a great video! Like Lisa, I cross stitched about 35 years ago and just started back about a year ago. There are so many great designers now and such wonderful fabrics and flosses too. I know Lisa will catch on quickly. I look forward to more cross stitch videos and to seeing Lisa's progress on the Barn stitch.
Since then, Compared to now, it seems designers are only using complete stitches without much backstitching, or half stitches or quarter stitches, for "faster" completion, & therefore "faster satisfaction". Our eyes will make the jagged edges of the pattern curve... without the ¹/⁴ or ¹/² stitches & without backstitching. Hmmm...

I’m loving the designs, floss/fabric choices, gadgets, and connecting with other stitchers though online videos and FlossTube!! I cracked up when you mentioned Precious Moments cross stitch. I still have one of the books for those and did a few of them. Branching out and have done a couple recently. Good video with great info.

Very nice video and great presentation. I use a day lite halo lamp with magnifier for my linen cross stitch, its small and compact , of course there are floor lamps with magnifiers , I'm also fond of Hardwick frames. Cross stitch has come along way, its hard to pick a project from so many great designers.
Oh Jeanie Lipskey, please try, if you need a magnifier find one that will help! Try less stitches per inch fabric like 10 or 14, I went from linen who knows the tiny count from 50 years ago to 14 count all colors of Aida. I use Piecemakers needles 24, 26 or 28 size. Please try again it will help your dexterity as you get older, I am 75.

And can be costly...one realizes some (many) patterns sell out quickly & are "no longer available"...unless you buy several & resell them. And...the "I want" button seems to be pushed when looking @ sew many patterns & patterns printed in a series, or seasonally designed! $$$$
I am an aida only stitcher. There are just as many colors of hand dyed aida as there are evenweaves and linens. Most hand dyers will dye aida, evenweave and linens. Also, once aida has been hand dyed, it softens, making it much less stiff.
Still asking you to add cross stitch to the Temecula store. There is not a LNS anyplace here and it would be so great to have ours right in the best fabric shop around! Make room for one, please. Many quilters also cross stitch.
Any fabric that is stiff loosens when soaked in water, it might not be feather soft, but it will definitely loosen nicely. Just be careful with hand dyed, many makers don’t ‘set’ the color and even a gentle soak will pull color out. But basic Aida out of the plastic, little warm water, little dish soap, rinse rinse rinse… definitely easier to stitch in hand
Thank you so much ladies absolutely loved it I recently started cross stitch my mom had me cross stitching at 5:00 to 8:00 I'm 44 now so it's been a long time I've recently started quilting 3 years ago sewing garments and cross stitch and embroidery I just started embroidery about a week ago but it's so helpful I haven't gotten into the fancy floss and silks yet and I've only tried beginner cheap Ada and nothing nothing hard yet easy projects but I absolutely love antique samplers & even the reproductions! I have a couple questions, if you don't mind? First question, are either of you ladies aware of any FREE, reproduction/antique sampler style charts or patterns; simpler or smaller for a simi-beginner such as myself? Second question, do either of you ladies have any suggestions on how to lable my cross stitch, live they use to do & how we label our quilts for future generation to tract or identify then after we're gone? I've gotten great free patterns from Fox and Rabbit, Stone Street Stitchworks, Modern Folk Embroidery, Owl Forest Embroidery, and Hewitt Hill Samplers. Just search through their websites for the free ones. I sometimes put my initials or name in the stitching, but not always. You can also write the information on the back of the frame.
