    This video has generated some controversy due to the use of Epoxy on a cutting board. Despite using only a small amount for the joints and using food grade epoxy. Please comment on what you think about it. I would like to know your opinion for future projects.

    • @sheslop888
      @sheslop888 8 месяцев назад +18

      People love to have concerns like this. It makes them feel like they know something. "Food grade" finish is a marketing ploy. Once any finish is cured, it's perfectly safe. How about plastic plates? Are they safe? Plastic cutting boards? How about the plastic film that your food comes wrapped in? Is that safe? What is the mass produced wooden cutting board that you buy at the store finished with? Does anyone know? Lacquer would be my guess. What is your fry pan coated with? Or your baking pans? People are going to question the finish on the wooden cutting board that their salad was prepped on, and then pour mass produced salad dressing on it from a plastic bottle without a second thought.

    I don't know that I would use it as a true cutting board but.

    Is it possible to slice the wood so thin that it would not break? Maybe diagonally? Like a veneer. Then to place it either inside a concave mould or on the outside. To Achieve a shape made entirely of slices, held together by layers of epoxy. The form could be rotated over a curved base, allowing for the epoxy to settle in a layer and when ready, rotate the form again. The outcome would be a shape of wood slices suspended in a curved epoxy, but not lathed. Angles are good.

But “juice grooves…” I understand most board builders like yourself do them, but I would never carve a roast beef on a wonderful board like this, which is the only time the grooves might be useful. And it cuts out almost 2 inches of both length and width of usable surface area!

    • @MaxPaws
      @MaxPaws 9 месяцев назад

      @@johngrace199 Even watermelon doesn’t generate enough juice that it overruns my cutting board. If I HAVE to use a board with juice grooves, then I’d only want them on 3 sides. I use my board next to my sink and always slide the peelings/scraps/whatever directly into the sink from the board. A groove on that edge would trap the scraps instead of letting me cleanly sweep them into the sink. And even on those other 3 sides, I’d want only a subtle hint of a groove. But hey, that’s just me.

      I don't have a link, but they are regular clamps, you can find them at any hardware store or Amazon

    Isn't the epoxy toxic for the food that's being sliced on it?
