Just like a race horse that breaks it leg, I think that once a bodybuilder tears a bicep, tricep, pec, etc., then his BB career is over. Judges that simply "rubber-stamp" this unsightly flaw just because the BB is in the top 5 should be removed from the panel. Once again, IMHO.

I know his bib tore off during a horizontal bench execution. I can't find any news instead of the bicep tear, which if you look closely, is injured in the proximal area of the long head, but also injured in the usual area near the elbow, which is noted in the double front biceps pose.

And while Dorian also competed with a torn bicep over a decade later AND WON THE SANDOW with his torn bicep, Dorian’s situation was completely different than Tom’s situation. Dorian not only came in to the ‘94 Olympia as the favorite to win the show, he was also one of only a handful of Olympia-level bodybuilders in the history of the sport who could still win a Sandow with an entire body part missing, as virtually every other body part of Dorian’s was light years ahead of his fellow competitors in terms of mass, conditioning. hardness, and just plain looking like he was carved from granite. Platz was light years ahead of his competitors when it came to his legs, but when it came to every part of his upper body, Platz had to bust his tail just to be considered in the Top 5 that a bicep tear for Tom Platz was virtually a guarantee for placing outside the Top 5, and in fact, Tom placed 6th that year (‘82).

Maybe he didn't want his arms to be asymmetrical and didn't train them both as intense as he used to do before his torn bicep in 1994
Usually one leg gets nerve damage so they stop training both calves to avoid asymmetry. Same thing happened with Valliere
It might also be, that he wasnt able to train barbell movements due to the injury.
