  • Lets repot some plants with me late at night! This video is a chatty repotting and I talk about 2 plants that I'm going to be upsizing. This was sorta spur of the moment but I was bottom watering my pilea and noticed it was a little sad and seemed to be drying out fast before I could water it again so I decided to repot it. I also decided to upsize my alocasia silver dragon since it was root bound and needed to be watered more frequently.
I don't normally repot in the winter unless the plant is declining or I notice it's rootbound and requiring more frequent watering.

I love my pilea! She loves all the light, once I moved her away from the window and she did not like it

Sounds good! Thank you! I think i may need to give it more light, I haven’t quite figured it out yet. Which window light does yours get?

I keep it in a east window and I give it light if it’s cloudy or dark out.

Thank you!! Yeah my pilea hasn’t been that happy this winter but I think I was letting it dry out too long inbetween waterings. 😬 I hope it ends up sprouting for you!! The silver dragon is such a beautiful plant! 💚

I have my Pilea in a west window. I water it with distilled water. I give it super thrive occasionally. I let it dry out between watering. But sometimes I must admit I go too long and he drops a few leaves.

@@plantsbymelissa I think it would be fine anywhere but a south window. I really baby my Pilea. I almost killed it when I first got it. But when I corrected his care he bounced back. Love your videos BTW. And you're very welcome hope it's helpful.

My plant looked very similar. I think my plant is not a fan of the winter. I believe it will pick up when I move it to my back porch in the Spring. Mine is under a grow light and I water faithfully. Winter, ugh!

I know!! Winter really stinks with houseplants! I’m lucky I don’t get too bad of weather but some of my plants definitely don’t like it 😔 it’s been about 9 days since I filmed this video and it seems to be doing okay. I definitely think I need to give it more light for sure! Thank you for watching!! 💚💚

I think I might have over watered my snake plants. Since I watered them some leaves are turning. Suggestions what do?

Oh no! I would definitely let them dry out. You can give them more light to help dry them out faster so they can try and recover. If the soil is still too wet you can stick a chopstick around the edge of the pot to aerate it to help dry it out. I hope they do okay! 🥲

Does the pest moss hold into the water better? I use coco coir in my soil mix. What do you think of that? I probably use 15%.

    • @plantsbymelissa

It does retain moisture! I use coir sometimes and depending soil I get it will have different things in there but I usually just stick to the fox farm which is more peat based

Off Amazon yes! I don’t remember the link it was really old but if you do a search for bendable wire it might come up!

Hi!! Thank you!! 🤗🤗 I have 3 cats lol. I think they keep each occupied they’re always playing together. They love to make appearances every single time I’m filing, it never fails lol. I keep a lot of my plants out of reach on shelves or hanging or I get them off the ground with plant stands. They get curious sometimes but I’m lucky they don’t seem to care that much! 😁

Girl! What is your secret to ieeping Alocasia's alive? My Bambino got some weird dark spots on the leaves that were like thin and soft compared to the rest of the leaf 😰 i didnt let it dry out, tried a regular watering schedule and a chunky mix for soil made up of orchid bark, perlite, and sphagnum moss if i remember correctly. Seemed like no matter what i did every leaf kept getting those dark spots so id trim the leaf back and eventually ended up with only one leaf and he ecen got a dark spot so i gave up and rehomed him 😭

Oh no!! I’m sorry 😢 I have probably 9 alocasias right now I think lol but some live in my greenhouse so they get optimal conditions. This one does get some extra humidity though. My initial thought was a watering issue maybe but since you said you had a schedule then maybe it could have been a fungal or a pest issue? I let mine get mostly dry before watering again. They love their humidity but I have a couple not getting very much right now they’re doing okay. I would say to make sure they’re getting enough light too. I’m not getting very much sun these days so I have 12 hr grow light timers on. If you get another one I hope it does well for you! 💚🤗
