Fair play for giving it a go. I like the references to "Caramelisation" and " Charcoal being good for the digestion". :) Cheers.

😄 - thanks Ash. Yeah, probably was a bit too much of a challenge. Good fun though!
Thanks for watching. Have a good break and hope you get some good downtime with your family. 2021 is going to be another ‘interesting’ year but to a degree it will be what we make it (and what vids we make of it! 😄).
Have a good one Mate! - ATB, Mark 🎄🎅🏻👍

Great effort,I would never think you could bake a cake on a campfire.
    Cake looked great well done.
I always love to bake apple crumble.
    Thank you for sharing.

Brilliant! Enjoyed watching that Mark. I reckon that you did ok considering it was your first attempt, plus as you say it least it was edible.
    Thanks for sharing mate.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.

LOL... came out the same as Camp Life BushCraft bread the other week on our camp... similar cooking method. At least you gave it a go Mark, learn by your mistakes and all that 🤣😂

Thanks Lee. Yeah I was pleased to see even a trained chef can end up with a burnt offering!
It was great fun so I was happy. I’ll get better at this cooking malarkey. Not gonna wait to video it until I’ve got it perfect - more fun this way!
Have a good one mate! Don’t run out of Jammy Red! 🎄🎅🏻👍

Hi Mark! I love that you tried this! I’ve never done it, so I learned along with you 😁 it always scared me to try baking in/on a fire 😂 I think it just takes practice and changing things as you go. I’ve seen other youtubers do it and I’m always nervous to see how it turns out lol . What I’ve seen from other videos is that the fire underneath was probably too hot. I think that cake would be good in the oven too...I love coconut! I’ll need the recipe 😉 you made me laugh, you have a great sense of humour and I think it’s great that you are going to try it again! Will you try a cake again? Or something different?

    • @hikingwithrosy
      @hikingwithrosy  3 года назад

Hi Lynda! I will definitely try a cake again. I found out afterwards I had used bread flour instead or...Erm...non-bread flour (what’s that called?) so that’s probably why it didn’t rise that much 🙄😄
You’re right though, too much heat underneath = a black bottom!
I’m definitely up for giving it a go - if for no other reason than it gives me an excuse to light a fire! 🔥😄
Thanks for watching Lynda! Glad you enjoyed it. Have a Great Christmas! 🎄👍😄

I loved watching this video. I laughed all the way through. I make cake while camping. But I fry them. Like any other pancake... They look like biscuits but have the taste and texture of cake. Also you can control the cooking...

Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed the vid 😊
It was a lot of fun TBH, and it really did taste okay.
I have made bannock once - that came out good, I fried it on a trangia.
Thanks for watching and commenting - always nice to know I’ve given someone a good laugh! 😄

@@hikingwithrosy I love camp food and so bar the caramelized bit I am sure it did... I did wonder about other ways of cooking cake. Possibly steaming it might work. Any other tries at making cake I would love to see!

I don't know anything about baking Mark so cannot comment on your technique. But my mum did tell me the other day that you shouldn't eat burnt food, which you didn't. Top marks for effort. Mark

Looks like even if it didn't come out perfect you had a good time preparing it...and edible is a good thing...if Otis was there he would have taken it all off your hands! lol

I had great fun doing it! I know nothing about cooking - you could probably tell - and I’ll eat (almost) anything so this was fine. 😊
Thanks for commenting. It was fun to do this one so I’m glad people are enjoying watching it. One day soon there will be a more boring one where I get everything right (maybe) 😄

I guess at least the cake is cooked enough! Do want to point out the charcoal is not great for you tho. I now want to try doing some baking on a fire, really enjoyed this video!

Hi Beth, yeah it tasted a lot better that it looked! 😄
I’ve talked to someone since then, who has successfully baked on a fire, and he told me it’s important to not have too much heat underneath. As you saw, I had a raging inferno!!
Thanks for watching and commenting. Appreciate your thoughts.
      Have a great Christmas! 🎄🎅🏻👍

Try , try , try again! I’ve had some success w a camp mug and muffin mix. I guess it’d work w cake mix also..... but I cooked from top AND bottom w coals( not a flame) . But I’m sure you learned more by this near failure than you would’ve if you’d succeeded the first time. Doesn’t matter much ..... you did get to eat some cake 🧁 !!!

    • @hikingwithrosy
      @hikingwithrosy  3 года назад

I did indeed. Yes, someone told me after that the trick is not to have too much heat underneath. You love and learn. I had a lot of fun and I’ll definitely try it again.
Thanks commenting. Good to know it is actually possible when you do it right! 😄👍

Oh well. Maybe you could set fire to a cake in your garden like I did. It certainly cheered me up! You might want to put a few clothes on though by the looks of it, coz it’s a bit parky outside this time of year. 👍
