    At 0:50, you know, the problem with uneven layers. I’ve seen this hack in a lot of videos. I just want to say that there is a way better way to fix that, then measuring with a ruler, using a lot of tooth picks and time, and then being left with an ugly cut from the floss. Find a bottle cap of the right height according to your layer, and place the knife on that cap and rotate around the cake, works way better

  • @blondebailey9575
    @blondebailey9575 4 года назад +52

    If you're cutting your cake that unevenly then you have serious problems! Or maybe drink too much? Using unflavored dental floss is a great idea (it's my personal preference) but I don't need a gazillion toothpicks to guide me. I can get an even cut with a serrated blade. And fyi, a turntable cake stand (I can't remember the exact term at the moment?) works brilliantly for slicing the cake in half and for decorating it. Fyi, using dental floss to cut slices of cheesecake works best. Zero to little mess and perfectly cut & even slices.

      Lazy Susan?

    • @blondebailey9575
      @blondebailey9575 4 года назад +2

      @@DharaGrace Yes it works very much like a lazy susan but it's specifically made for cakes, to frost, decorate and slice layers. They're white plastic, Wilton makes them (and I'm sure other companies), inexpensive and are wonderful to have if you do very much cake baking.

      In my experience, parchment paper is super common in households. You know people use parchment paper for other things right? Like cooking stuff in the oven so they don’t stick. I use it to cook meringues and don’t own cupcake liners because I don’t make cupcakes. So it’s quite a high chance that someone would have parchment paper instead.

    Thank you for this wonderful video ♡ You've helped so many people ♡
    If anyone likes to read along with the video, I've included time stamps and text ♡
    0:01 A dish towel soaked in water and wrapped around your pan and held by a pin will keep your cake flat.
    0:25 No cupcake holders, some parchment paper will work. Just take a glass and press in down into the cupcake pan so the parchment paper will hold a shape before you put your batter in.
    0:43 To cut a cake evenly, place tooth picks around the cake and then use some string to cut it. The tooth picks will be a guide for you.
    1:15 To line a pan with parchment, please follow these instructions. (It's best to watch carefully at this part) ♡
    1:47 Dry cake? Brush some honey and hot water on top.
    2:10 An easy way to make adorable chocolate hearts is by melting the chocolate in water while it's still in the bag then nipping the bag and piping the chocolate onto a piece of parchment paper and freeze them for a while ♡
    2:25 If you pan is too big, consider portioning it out by placing some foil in the space you would like to use and securing it by rolling the foil. Line the foil with parchment as you would with any other pan and there you go, a makeshift smaller pan ♡
    2:53 No piping bag. Nevermind that, if you have a zipper bag, nip the end and pip away ♡

      Anyone who cuts a cake that far off, unevenly to that degree needs to lay off of the liquor while baking. I've never NEVER had to go to that degree to cut my layers evenly. The best thing you can buy (and they're cheap) is a cake stand that turns, like a lazy susan. They're great for cutting the cake in half and for frosting & decorating it. Using dental floss is in fact a useful tool, just skip the gazillion toothpicks. You can run the floss (flavorless of course) through the cake with ease. It's extremely handy when slicing cheesecake! I've been a cake baker and decorator for many years, a business from home, lots of weddings. Don't forget to apply a crumb coat to your cake 1st before frosting it, especially a chocolate cake. That keeps all of the crumbs from getting into the frosting. Just use a small amount of frosting to basically seal the crumbs in. You can Google this information (I assume).
