Meg Griffin, I have shoulder length hair. It takes me 5 minutes total to put it into a fancy bun. When I had shorter hair, I spent 30-40 minutes styling it because it was too short to pull back. Never again. Shorter hair is too high maintenance.
Kat Eliza, if you work in a chemical laboratory, you’re legally required to pull your hair back, even if that means putting it in two short pigtails if it’s too short for a ponytail. I spend a lot of time in the laboratory. I wasn’t going to wear the short, stubby pigtails. So I spent a ridiculous amount of time and many bobby pins just pinning it back to look as nice as possible. I’m not returning to those days. Ever. Long hair is low maintenance as long as you don’t damage it (sulfate shampoos, silicone products, and heat styling). Healthy hair doesn’t need all that stuff to look silky. And I have curly hair, so I know the struggles of frizzy hair. I have found the holy grail of gentle hair care that leaves my hair soft, shiny, and no need for mousse and hair gels to look presentable.

I also buzzed and donated my hair last week. I did it because my beautiful little sister who had amazing hair passed away in decemeber. She had to go trough brain surgery and they had to buzz her hair off. It was waist length. I want other little children to feel beautiful again.❤

Having went through Cancer I cannot tell you how grateful I was to the person that cut their hair so that I could have a wig. I had super long hair my whole life and was devastated when it fell out. My wig brought me so much joy and definitely made the journey easier. I prayed for my hair donors (it was two donors that made up my wig) every night.

There's nothing wrong with using descriptors to explain your friends to people who don't really know them by name. But it's something to consider: why do so many people consider it a loss to cut hair short? Why do we place so much importance on hair that it's 'sad' to not have any?

You are right! Being defined just by the length of hair is not a good thing. I grew my hair long several times with the intention of giving it away when it was long enough. The fact that some men I came across with are wanting just that, made me worry. Twice it became the source of my misery. Thank you for showing your courage and compassion. I did not get charged for my hair cut of 14 inches because I showed the envelope and the form that I was going to donate my hair to Angel Hair for Kids. I was very happy because it was my 3rd donation there. God bless you for such a good deed. However, I will never be able to pull off a radical haircut like yours.
I did this. I shaved all my hair off about 2 months ago. I had seen a lot of videos about how it made women feel strong, and how it made them cut ties with hair as their identity. I gave it about a year of thought, so i didnt do it hastily. I thought I'd eventually find my strength, but weeks later, I still feel so shy and not myself. I have had people ask me if I'm dying, tell me I look crazy, or that I am actually crazy (why would you do that to yourself?)... which I dont react to shi*ty comments cause that's on them, but I still feel it. I'm writing this as a cautionary tale- just my story. Oh also, wigs are scratchy, hot, and unwearable for me. So, ok just my opinion, I wish you well on your journey should you decide to shave it, but me?-- I really wish I hadn't.
I cut off 18 inches of hair a couple years ago and donated it to Wigs for Kids. I'm thinking about getting a pixie cut and donating again. (please do your research on what association you donate to. some places charge people for the wigs.)
