I'm glad they're not just dropping his storyline or trying to do some CGI bs. Hope this starts to encourage them to recast more often. Disney seems scared of it since Solo, but I thought that recast was great too. Let some new actors pick up these roles! These stories deserve a longer life than we all get in this galaxy.
I think part of the reason they were afraid of recasting is because of how vocal people are online when it happens, like screaming that it's "Disrespectful" if you give the role to someone else and I am like.....how it is disrespectful?

If this is true, I'm happy! I'll always miss Ray and cherish his performance but Rory is a class actor and I'm happy they're continuing the character. Honestly he was a surprising choice, not who I would have thought of but the more I think about it, the more on board I am! He was one of the best in Game of Thrones IMO, one of my absolute favourites too so I can definitely see him pulling it off! Star Wars seems so hesitant to recast rolls so I am glad that they decided to do that here rather than just cut the storyline short or use deep fake or something

The first place I saw Rory McCann was a British dramedy TV show called Book Club starring American actress Anne Dudek (White Chicks) as a woman who moves to Scotland and starts a book club to make friends. RM played a disabled gay man in a wheelchair. Has proved to me that he has range.

Loved Ray's performance and the character in s1. Recast was the right decision and I think Rory McCann has the acting shops and the physical presence to pull it off. Hearing that they were friends is also a nice touch. Baylan has the potential to be a generational character and Ray's contribution will never go under appreciated

I loved Ray in Black Sails and Ahsoka, and for many reasons its bittersweet to hear his role is being recast. But when I heard its going to Rory, beyond the fact they were friends and it will be very poetic for Rory to finish what Ray started, besides the fact it prevents a large part of the story having to be reworked, besides all of this I am truly excited for one thing not mentioned here. We get to see RORY with a LIGHTSABER! BEING a BAD/GOOD/BAD GUY! How COOL is that!!
I think this is good! We mustn't let a character be only tied to one actor/actress. Because this mythological universe will continue past someones lifespan and then that character can't be off limits, especially if their story isn't done!
I'm surprised how much McCann looks like Stevenson. Once they get the hair do on him it will be even closer. Maybe they'll even do a little prosthetics or something. But what would work REALLY well, is if they make him look younger and give him brown hair. Then have something about that light he was headed for regenerate him and make him younger. Then the difference would be a lot more smooth.

I'm glad Lucas recast him, instead of doing whatever the heck they did with Carrie in Ep. IX, or going with some AI deepfake abomination like in Fett. My opinion is that characters last forever, and the living, breathing humans who play them have a limited time in those characters' shoes. I am always open to recast characters, even if their shoes are monumentally hard to fill. Let talented artists get a shot at becoming characters we know and love, and if they whiff, then bring out the next artist and try again.
Sometimes Stevensons, seasoned appearance reminds me of Sean Connery from the 90s. But the recasting is a surprise but Im looking forward to the next Ahsoka series.

Yeah I never saw GOT so I only know McCann from The Book Group and Hot Fuzz. This isn't helpful in imagining him in the role of Skoll, but I'm glad the character is being properly recast rather than being replaced with a CGI version or something. Studios need to know that they can, and often times should, do this rather than rely too much on the technology. This also makes me realise I'm looking forward to Ahsoka S2 more than I thought I would be. S1 was patchy, in my opinion, but I think the potential is there to make something excellent moving forward.

My top choices were: Richard Armitage Pierce Brosnan Graham McTavish Gerard Butler Russell Crowe Kurt Russell Liev Schreiber David Harbor Jeffery Dean Morgan But... As much as I had hoped for Richard Armitage, I hold out hope that Rory McCann portrays the character/performs the role well.
I think people are too obsessed with keeping the same actor in the same role in perpetuity when it comes to star wars. Yes, recasting should be done with great care but i don't think the very idea of recasting is a bad thing. CGI Peter Cushing and especially CGI Young Carrie Fisher made rogue one worse. There was no good reason to show leias face at the end and if they needed tarkin in the movie just bring back the actor who played him in episode 3. It worked for Genevieve O'Reilly and mon mothma and look at where the character and that actress are now. Alden ehrenreich was great as young han solo, but even if you disagree I will die on the hill that recasting is better than a cgi Harrison Ford (especially when Anthony ingruber exists) The luke skywalker cgi in mandalorian and book of boba wasn't too bad, and im glad it was used sparingly but never seeing Luke's face and letting mark Hamill do the voice would have been better imo. He's a brilliant voice actor he could have pulled it off. Limiting themselves to archival footage made leias role in rise of skywalker clunky and awkward in an already clunky and awkward movie. They either should have written leia out or recasted the character if they wanted her to have a bigger role

Ray Stevenson's loss is definitely felt. Every Pop or image of Skoll I find, I collect. McCann will be a Skoll, I hope. He has the demeanor needed for the role. The physicality. Stevenson will definitely be missed though.

And I trust Dave Feloni to find someone right for the role. Though it does beg the question if we ever saw the character in animation like in a Tales of episode, who would they be modelled after?

Like you have no idea how badly I want Abeloth! 2.5: Could you imagine if we got all four Mortis gods on screen together?! 3: I had extremely high hopes for the Ahsoka show and so far I have nothing but excellent things to say about it. As it had to be done it's probably as good as they could have managed. Just a shame really. I'm glad that Rory & Ray were friends and that Ray's family has endorsed Rory in the role.
I don't know anything about the guy or the characters that he's played, so all I can say is that I hope he was the right choice and wish him the best of luck. Personally, when I first thought about who could play the character of Baylan Skoll for Season 2, I thought of Liev Schreiber, and if I'm being honest, I still prefer that pick. I know his skills as an actor, he has experience doing action, and he's a very similar age, height, build, and even shared a very similar facial structure to Ray Stevenson. But like I said, since Rory McCann is the reported recast, I hope he was the right choice and things go well. Nobody will ever be able to quite match what Ray did for the character, so I can only hope that I can be immersed in the story and not lose focus on how right or wrong things are with his absence.
I REALLY wish they didn't recast him. He can't be replaced by another actor. They should have had him ascend to another level of the force and just use CG to give glimpses to conclude his story.
Honestly, aside from Rory McCann’s talent as an actor, his appearance in the Knuckles mini-series looked like an almost disheveled Baylan, so I could see both appearance wise and talent wise him working perfectly in the role

Watch Hot Fuzz, McCann has a small role, which doesn't really show his range, but the movie is great!

As it had to be done it's probably as good as they could have managed. Just a shame really. I'm glad that Rory & Ray were friends and that Ray's family has endorsed Rory in the role.
I don't know anything about the guy or the characters that he's played, so all I can say is that I hope he was the right choice and wish him the best of luck.
Personally, when I first thought about who could play the character of Baylan Skoll for Season 2, I thought of Liev Schreiber, and if I'm being honest, I still prefer that pick. I know his skills as an actor, he has experience doing action, and he's a very similar age, height, build, and even shared a very similar facial structure to Ray Stevenson.
But like I said, since Rory McCann is the reported recast, I hope he was the right choice and things go well. Nobody will ever be able to quite match what Ray did for the character, so I can only hope that I can be immersed in the story and not lose focus on how right or wrong things are with his absence.
Im genuinely heartbroken still because of his death, however im sure the new baylan will honour his predecessor
I REALLY wish they didn't recast him. He can't be replaced by another actor. They should have had him ascend to another level of the force and just use CG to give glimpses to conclude his story.
Honestly, aside from Rory McCann’s talent as an actor, his appearance in the Knuckles mini-series looked like an almost disheveled Baylan, so I could see both appearance wise and talent wise him working perfectly in the role

What if baylen is trying to get to the world between worlds to save the Jedi and then releases or is being played by abaloth to trick him into releasing her
I'm a little worried about the fandom taking this in some weird directions and trying to rationalize a canonical reason for Baylan being different rather than accepting this whole situation for the tragedy it is

Yarp. It’s an excellent casting decision. I just hope they don’t write the recasting into the script. Everyone should act like he’s always been this way. Not so much as a “Huh. You look different, somehow.”
They should have used the guy who played garp in one piece live action
It's obviously a tragedy that Skoll had to be recast, but recasting is the best way to handle it and I like McCann for the role.
