    I never thought of getting a new camera to improve my photography in general. I've looked to new cameras only to increase my capture rate in environments I can't control.

      I think a new camera should enhance the skills we already have. Things like Increasing frame rates, and low-light performance may make an upgrade worthwhile. However, it doesn’t make one a better photographer. I guess it’s like they say, practice makes perfect or better anyway. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and thank you for watching.

    Agree with your thoughts. I restarted my Photography journey post retirement some years ago, with new Camera & technology to learn whilst being bombarded with New Gear what I should have purchased or not I've just concentrated on the journey of learning to use what I've got, improved my glass, print my photos (another experience) and photographing anything & everything. You mentioned Camera Bags, another ongoing consideration lol.......when I've mastered my gear maybe another Camera, enjoy your Videos, cheers from Aussie...

      Richard, It's so easy for me to get lost in the quest for gear. I'm often asking myself if I need this or that. Many photographers recommend spending money on trips rather than gear. Indeed, they're right! Bags, cameras, tripods, etc, are so exciting to ponder; here I go again. Thanks for watching! Take care, buddy!

    I bet the camera companies are not enjoying this video. My wife tells me all the time do you really need a new camera and she's always right. I just can't help seeing the shiny object. I always tell people you need to outgrow your camera there might be something in the new camera. They should make it more convenient to take photos. Or you just wanna step up your image quality. I once heard someone say spend the money that you would've spent on a camera and go travel to a new spot. Another great video. Hope we can get together sometime in the coming year.

      Camera manufacturers know how to market their products, that's for sure. Honestly, it isn't easy to pass by those shiny objects without stopping for a quick peek, especially when we're surfing the web and visiting places like B&H Photo.
      Indeed, spending money on a trip makes the most sense. It's the images that stay with us for generations. The ability to relive the experience is irreplaceable. When browsing photos, I often can't tell what camera I used at the time, but on the rare occasions when I do stop and think about it, it's then that I realize it doesn't matter.
      I hope to see you out on the trail soon! I'm planning on returning to the Arkansas Ozarks shortly!

    Great video Michael. I see this All. The. Time. So many photographers and YTers (especially) grab the latest and greatest medium format camera just to shoot a not-so-great image, a cliche scene, or are frustrated by limitations of a system. Not long later, decide to move back to their original setup. I agree = a specific camera or system will largely NOT make your images better. Putting the work in certainly will, though!

      You said it, my friend! One is better off focussing on the photography rather than the gear. Indeed, with all the RUclips reviews avocation for the latest and greatest new cameras, it’s easy to lose sight of what's most important. Honestly, I like checking out the latest gear reviews myself. I have to remember what matters most. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and thank you for watching! Take care, buddy!

      @@ScottymanPhoto 100%. and I say that as someone who has fallen into the trap of gear multiple times (I mean really, I didn't NEED a medium format camera, but man it is cool.) I like to think though that the last two years or so I've been much more focused on the artistry as you've mentioned, which ultimately is the biggest way to improve. Looking forward to what you end up doing next!

      @@brianbeattyphotography Well said! Don’t get me wrong, I would love to have a medium-format Hasselblad, but I don’t think it will make me a better photographer. Thank you, Brian!

    Good video, mate. I’m getting simpler with my gear and loving it. Also, I’m finding the various crop modes on the X2D are definitely helping me take better photos because, like your physical framing tool, I’m seeing things differently. So weird hearing my name… Thanks, Michael. 👍

    I couldn't agree more. I did buy a new camera last year, and I am glad I did mostly because it is sturdier and more weatherproof than my old entry-level one. But the photos I have taken are well... still me.

    You still need to learn how to see and move into the frame of where the scene.

    • @ScottymanPhoto
      @ScottymanPhoto  5 месяцев назад +1

      Learning how to see can take a good deal of time. While out this morning, I felt disconnected from the scene and couldn't visualize a single composition, so I packed up and came home. Clearly, I have some work to do in this area myself. However, equating it to writer's block puts me at ease. Indeed, landscape photography helps one notice the finer details and seek beauty in the mundane. Excellent thought; you made my day with this comment.

    There is only one choice: homebrew pinhole camera, dont overthink. You dont need any lens or shutter.
