There's something about Jennifer Lawrence's voice when she sang this song in the movie that made it so touching (I don't know if this is the right word for it). She sounds desperate, afraid, and sad all at the same time.
And that .. effect? Fits so well with that particular song, because if I remember correctly (it has been quite some time since I read the books) that song was basically banned by the capitol early in Katniss’ life because it was seen as potentially revolutionary in nature (despite having a history long predating the first rebellion) so it makes sense that she sounds afraid, not only has it always been very “risky” to sing it but she makes it clear that she doesn’t really like being in front of the camera either, also it probably reminds her a lot about her father
That's because she didn't want to sing it and was forced by the director to do so. She was unsure of her singing.
Couldn't agree more
But she made it so real and it came alive and inspired the entire world. And that’s just why I think that she is the greatest actress ever.
My brother thought it was Adele when she sang, and we just watched all movies yesterday
On one side it's Met gala and lavish party of the elites, while on the other part of the world it is war and death. We certainly are living in Hunger games era

The song gives such a haunting feel. The arrangement and singing are so beautiful!
"They strung up a man.."

You ain't lying
is time to get them ...wakeup world wide....
Wait until you watch the scene that inspired the song on the upcoming “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”
The increase in tempo is ever so slight, but CONSTANTLY building throughout the entire song, and the more people that are added and the louder it gets, the faster it gets too. For a hundred people to pull it all off? DAMN. From a note playing perspective, this song is easy. But from a technique and orchestration perspective? DAAAAAAMN.
True
Spoke my mind
It sounded to me like the tempo was getting faster. Thank you for confirming that.
It’s as if it’s catching fire…
It's not constant though :-)
One of the best movie songs ever (in my opinion). I love the arrangement so much.
You should check out Lisa Gerrard, i bet you would like her too, if you like this. She did the soundtracks for gladiator and man on fire…
@Bine Bee agreed ❤

Hats off to James Newton Howard for taking Suzanne Collins' lyrics and composing a breathtakingly... haunting, sad... troubling song. I can't remove it from the story in my head so Idk if Jenniffer Lawrence's rendition can be topped. The rawness and disquiet she sang it with was perfectly gut wrentching. That being said this rendition is beautiful and velvety. It feels far removed from the story but exquisitly and elegantly performed. Beautifully done.
It gives me epilouge vibes, a ceremony that takes place decades after Katniss' natural passsing. The Mockingjay's Rememberence. It's to celebrate Panem's new freedom and to remember the souls who *choose* to die for this.
@@cronus7500 Fan fucking tastic words right here.
I really agree. It's amazingly beautiful.
Though I must add James Newton Howard didn't compose the tune, he only made the orchestral production. The song was composed by an American band whose name I cannot remember
the lumineers! @@_what._.

Me too no worries 😂
😅 That's a good one !
The soundtrack of one of the most important movie series in recent memory. I think it is a very humbling tune. As usual the Danish Orchestra does a wonderful job. A beautiful performance
XRP ❤
The pianissmo the orchestra was playing at at the start is insane. The amount of practice it must have taken to get the sound to blend so well..
not amount of practive, it is required if you are in a professional orchestra
The visuals of the workers assaulting the dam to the tune of this song are seared in my mind.
I mean why don't concerts like these get nominated...thr should be an award for such ensamble
Seriously it’s alot of work coming from a musician
Simply the taste of good music 🎶 in the world gone bad !
The whole ensemble is absolutely magical!!!!
I love how the energy changes when the entire choir gets engaged. I’m also pleased to see hunger games fans out here.
The girl who sings is beyond beautiful! Also very talented too

I'm still bothered by 'rope' being replaced by 'hope' in the movies. Regardless, it's SUCH a haunting and beautiful song. There was a fan made version I loved before the movie version came out, but the scenes with Jennifer singing it's really incredible
i dunno, i think the necklace of hope has called a certain image to mind that underscores how dire the situation is. like rope describes the physical object that killed them and all that implies. but hope being the thing that killed them- the hope for a better future, for revolution- it has a certain deadly ring to it that chills my soul personally. hope killed them, not the system that bought the rope, not the faceless government executioner, but the hope that damned them.
@@feifiefofum1 exactly and the fact is, all songs, that’s been passed to generations and generations, meanings and lyrics eventually change, but the essence will always be there. it’s simply a revolutionary song.
Plutarch is NOT a true wordsman...
I like how Plutarch says “the words were originally necklace of rope but we changed it to hope”
Hope was the theme. The last thing to go. The only thing stronger than fear.
This makes me wanna reread and then rewatch the whole series all over again
What series? Sorry late to the game

Are you, are you comin' to the tree?
Where they strung up a man, they say, who murdered three
Strange things did happen here, no stranger would it be
If we met at midnight in the hanging tree
Are you, are you comin' to the tree
Where dead man called out for his love to flee?

Where I told you to run, so we'd both be free?

Outstanding! I love hearing this orchestra play film music.
A choir brings such life to a song. It’s incredible.
The build-up is perfection! This rendition is among the very best. ❤
A fantastic rendition. It gave me chills.
the choir was the best, they killed it
Recently got back to watching these movies and this song has always been amazing for me. However THIS ORCHESTRA has got to be the BEST VERSION i've ever heard of it.
Absolutely Amazing, do you know the female artist and could you tell me her name, thank you.

literal chills, its always the part where everyone sings together i just love it 😆
I'm a massive hunger games fan, so this is just a beautiful rendition
Goosebumps from start to finish! One of my favourite movie soundtrack songs
And to think our politicians wanted to cut the funding for this orchestra.
And SO happy we have Stegelman for these programs, the grand old man of programs about computer games on danish TV
Thank you Danish National Symphony Orchestra! You're so great performing Soundtracks. Extraordinary, I already found so many "pieces of gold" performed by you.
this scene in mockingjay has always been my absolute favorite - this is AMAZING. I love when the instrumental part starts and Andrea looks back at the orchestra and smiles
1:51 THIS IS SO AMAZING
All the different voices together 😦😦
Such a haunting song. Thank you suzanne collins for these words. I just finished reading the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and knowing the origins of this song in the story just made it more compelling.
What's the origins of this song?
@@Hiba-zw9bxYou might want to read the book first. But to explain,
The song refers to the fact that a guy was responsible for a mining accident that killed three people in it, hence the strung up a man, they say who murdered *three.* He was later sentenced to death by hanging and Lucy was the one who originally sang it later on.
I don't know why katniss choose this song when she never saw the hanging tree or meet the the original composer of the song Lucy gray baird..
@@firecracker7303i think it’s been passed down to each generation in district 12. It was written in THG books that katniss’s father sang to her a lot. This must be one of the songs she remembered.

it can also be interpreted as if the man is Snow since he killed 3 people (doesnt make that much sense since he wasn't strung) and she says "are you, coming to the tree?" obviously talking to snow since they met there before runing away, and also "where i told you to run, so we'd both be free" talking about when they ran from district 12, the necklace of rope part i don't remember but there's defitively some reference to that in the movie or book
Well done, beautiful arrangement of instrumental and vocals. The production value for sight, sound, lighting, and cameras was also superbly done.
The Orchestra is Outstanding 💯😍🎶
The main singer did so well. Well done, it was amazing
OMG. What a beautiful rendition of the song. So haunting building to a climatic ending.
After reading The ballad of snakes and snongbirds, this is even more meaningful
