Knowing that Josh and Tyler are Christians, this is a very very emotional song.
I'm obsessed
+Rachel D they are that's awesome, I didn't know that (I don't know much about their life's I just listen to the muic)
+Drew Belcher music
+Drew Belcher yeah! Both of their Wiki's say they're Christian :)
Rachel D just googled it thx
''I began to understand why god died''
:(
This song is so sad
I just realized how depressing these lyrics are
:(
don't be sad fren! From a christian standpoint, this song is beautiful. Tyler is realizing why Jesus Christ died for him, and he is discovering that God did it out of complete, and utter love.
Yes, I am a christian aswell, the lyrics just get me everytime. It's just sad for me to hear the lyrics sometimes D': Thanks fren :)
+Al Spina I totally understand. I usually transform into a blubbering whale when I hear their songs they are just so touching
:D atleast someone understands. I do too :)
I totally understand. I agree with Sara.. A lot of their songs from a Christian standpoint mean a lot. Not that they don't from someone else's standpoint, but they're beautiful
I feel like the high pitched noise throughout the song is a car alarm. Like in the beginning, its sorta slow. As if somebody just got in their car, or something. And during the more 'intense' part, it got louder and more repetitive. Maybe its as if somebody purposely crashed their car as a way of committing suicide? And when he sings about the part where she buckled her heart up in the backseat? Maybe she really loved him, and felt as though she lost her heart after he died? I don't know, sort of a shitty theory, but I have stupid thoughts like that, anyways.
actually, that was pretty good. im thinking hard about that.
olivia jessie believe it or not, I had the same theory about the car alarm sound.
Hi my name is [D A N] I think you might be reaching a little far there
Hi my name is [D A N] I mean thier songs are supposed to all have really deep meanings so it is likely that you figured out the meaning
Hi my name is [D A N] good theory, but TØP songs are more metaphorical, like it's not a car, in my opinion the car represents a way of going forward in life at full speed, he first says "to drive away with " and near the end "to walk away with " as if he can't go on life at full speed because he is destroyed by an event or something like that
"And then I felt chills in my bones"
tyler have you been listening to your own music
Probably.
your profile pic fits that comment like a glove.
I woke up to those lyrics ringing in my head
My birds like when this song comes on cuz it sounds like birds chirping
1:25
Aww that's so cute :D
Lil is a taco same XD
Ukelele Artist18 cutest comment ever
This is actually my favourite comment ever
has anyone else but me noticed just how much tyler sings about cars and driving? also i'm pretty sure i'm wrong but the title of this song and the imagery described, it seems like this could be connected to the heavy dirty soul video? think about it, in this song he's really struggling and content to jump out of the car or be killed. but in the heavy dirty soul video, he sees the car falling apart and decides to get out and join josh in the street. then, they watch the car blow up. this could be meant to symbolize the torches mentioned in this song.
Car radio
A car a torch a death
Taxi cab
Heavydirtysoul
He really likes cars
oooh! I like that theory.
I dont like the thought of tyler driving cuz he could just pull the steering wheel...
With the new info and "Jumpsuit" video, it would tie it all in even more.
Michael Teed in jumpsuit a car. Nico and the niners a torch. We're just waiting on a death
lyrics:
tweet tweet 50x
+JasMeme Azizi Yeah I think that's it, because I heard my dads car alarm after this song 😂
I have absolutely nothing else to do, so I counted the "tweet tweets" and there's actually 100 of them 😅
I did it. 190.
I counted 180...
Close Enough.
this song makes me feel something very *very* emotional.
shan lucey me too man
shan lucey your listening to tøp it's kind of a given
shan lucey me too
Most songs from the album that this is from do that for me, but especially this. This song, though, especially somehow gets me out of my own head and calms my nerves. There is another emotion as well, but I don't know how to describe that one.
shan lucey same
My now old friend told me he doesn't like there self titled album

The background perfectly represents what I feel when I listen to this song.
I want someone to go through every TØP song and count how many times he says 'then'

Neon-Sparks I'm doing it.

What's "no phun intended"?
This is one of the greatest songs I have actually ever heard in all my years, someone help, the brilliance is going to kill me.
I will help you with some advise: Put another song on and after those songs put it on again and you will probably forget it but it worked on me
+0/105537310192994512083 hi hated it now its in my top 3 favorite songs
Shannie Porter I hated it now I love it
Where's the brilliance though? I've heard these same lyrics before by different artists. Nothing new here kid.
Ghostie Mostly Please enlighten me, oh powerful being. What other songs do you speak of? i know I am just a mere mortal compared to your vast musical intelligence. All my favorite bands are lost ripples in the sea of time.

C-Rap Pop-sicles god i am so proud of you!!!
Literally so proud, good job !!
I feel so bad I don't understand the meaning of this song but it makes me feel emotions help
listen carefully. I think about holding on. listen to other songs for connections.
I personally think it's about Tyler beginning to understand why Jesus Christ died. He's realizing that God did it all out of love for him. He says this breath (life/grace) is not his own, it's God's. He says send the demons his way because he can now face them knowing the sacrifice Christ made for him
Good point.
Sarabande dream That is a good point...i see....I'm going to cry now...bUT THE HEATHENS VIDEO IS UP..SOUND THE ALARMS

+Joshler Is Real like your username? So far it's the best one because it hold so much truth and meaning.
Mannabelle Thx. I know it's so meaningful lol.
+Joshler Is Real i approve your username
I think what Tyler means when he says, "I began to understand why God died" is all good things come to an end, rather than it being a religious point of view.
notnicoh Tyler is religious and i personally believe this is a religious song but your interpretation is good 😜
notnicoh or or, maybe he says it because God died for us just for love, and the lyric is right after the "you packed your heart for me to drive away with"
notnicohh When he says that God gave him his heart to drive away with, he's probably saying that God gave up his life to help him, because you know, we need hearts to live so that's why god died
I like that everyone can have their own interpretation, especially of that one line. I personally have my own interpretation of that line that just hit me one time as I sat in a car listening to this song.
notnicohh for the line I think of it like he understands Why God (Jesus ) had to die because of all the bad things humanity has done. I don't know it's just a theory..........
A CLIQUE THEORY.......... I'm not
sorry 😂😂
coming back to this song a couple years later and finally understanding it. then realizing my depression has definitely worsened since, if this song literally makes me want to break every object in my room
(to make that more clear, I am absolutely in love with this song and Tyler and Josh can explain things in a way I could never put to words myself.)
Twenty one pilots has a way of materializing my thoughts and emotions in a way I never thought possible. It's and good and back thing. my mind is so self destructive and this song makes me want to just destroy things. It's so powerful.
can someone please back me up on this? i feel like I lost my mind a long time ago and it's like trying to think without one.
U understand how you feel, just think about how you've made it this far fren, whenever I feel deep in depression (almost always).. I like to think about how you can always love another day, and then at the end I the night I lay staring at the ceiling and smile and say "I made it another day:):):))" know that there are very very good reasons to stay alive and keep goin fren
I understand not U dumb autocorrect
Also I meant live another day wtf
Stay strong peeps plz;)

Why do you listen to tøp if your not Christian
Band Obsessed Why do you assume my religion and decide that it should dictate my preference in music?
Band Obsessed ?? Tøp isn't even a Christian band and it doesn't matter their religion... if they like their music then they can listen. There's a lot of people who aren't Christians and still listen to Christian music.
+Nea Nea Huh??? I don't even know what I said.
Band Obsessed You (rudely and ignorantly) said "Why do you listen to tøp if your not Christian".
I can't describe these songs they have meanings that most people don't get and that's a good thing so people who don't like them cant say anything '-'
I wanted to say this exactly
So many chills ... ugh this song hits me hard
Well this is depressing. And Beautiful.
whizzer deserves better that’s exactly what top is
This song isn't about death; it's about learning to live for others. That's kind of beautiful.
Tyler- ''I wanna crack the door so I can just fall out''
me- BOIIIIII
same
I figured being on your period and listening to tøp would be a horrible combination but I cried WAAAAY MORE when I wasn't on it???
Serenity Clark me rn
v accurate right now
GAHAAHAHAHAHA
In the great words of Lin-Manuel Miranda: "BAHAHAHAHAHA"
Tmi lol
and then I felt, chills in my bones, the breath I saw was not my own
i knew my skin that wrapped my frame
wasn't made to play this game
Then I saw him, torch in hand. He laid it out, what he had planned
And then I said "I'll take the grave" please just send them all my way
The air begins to feel alittle thin
this is so aesthetically pleasing
I know right
What happy music with such sad lyrics. .-.
that's basically every twenty one pilots song lol
and other sentences that describe all tøp songs
all of their song...
Right, yeah, because one comment isn't enough.
twenty one pilots - sad songs that make you wanna dance
The pain feels so raw in this song....it breaks my heart into a thousand pieces.
That, and I feel the same pain in myself...
Tøp songs make me feel this sadness but this is good because the only thing i feel is just pain all the time sadness isn't such a bad thing anymore my sanity is the only thing i can hold on to now
Tmw you understand the lyrics and it makes you almost cry
for those of us who are pretty slow at symbolism, do you mind explaining?
She's hoping he's not going to harm himself in some way.
That's why her heart is driving around with him and his breath is not his own. Her hope for him has become his driving force to exist rather than his own need.
Than the demon on the porch representing her fear that he's going to give up which he in the end does.
Or am I the only one interpreting the song this way?
I am suffering with depression and anxiety but when I hear songs like this from twenty one pilots it feels like I am in a different world. The first time I hear their songs I was crying because I can relate to the lyrics. Whenever I feel down, I listen to one of their songs. They are a true blessing. Where would I be without their music?!?!?
How are you doing now?
Im in the backseat of a car, driving in the hot desert to our vacation destination. It was when I started to fall in love with this album, so I put it on. When this song came on I fell in love with it. So many of the words were just related to what I was feeling, and in fact, I was in a car. Every day on that vacation, I listened to this song to cheer me up and have a good day. And now when I listen back to it and think more about the lyrics, I cry. I cry because of the happiness it brought, the nostalgia, the stuff Tyler goes through, and how much i've changed as a person. I love this song, and I love the clique
Hey, I'm a little late but I had a similar experience! We were actually driving back home from a mountain trip when I put on the entire self-titled album from start to finish on my headphones. For me though, as I was staring through the window, Addict with a Pen started playing and it hit harder because we were driving through an actual desert at the exact same time. It helped me appreciate the album on a deeper level, like I was actually visualizing every lyric, every metaphor that Tyler was singing. After that, I am honestly now convinced that self-titled might be their magnum opus.
These lyrics always hit me hard.
Ah, I'm crying
Am I the only one who can see figures in that mist??
nope
nope
+DestinyDoesStuff Their meant to be there. People, walking away.
+Rianna Mayfield or people walking closer
Like that on man is walking the opposite direction everyone else is going
Very good point there.
Sometimes listen to tøp songs is the best thing you can do
True. If I had an hour to live, I would only listen to their songs.

OH MY GOD. This is it... A car: heavydirtysoul & the beginning of the Jumpsuit music video.

No I'm not
When I first heard this song I thought "OML PANIC AT THE DISCO DEATH OF A BACHELOR OMLLL" but now that I hear the lyrics I can relate to this song on so many levels :(
wait why Death of a Bachelor? I just do see a correlation. Please explain...
*don't
JustChandler The cover of the album is a car crashed in a pool (a car) I]i dont see a torch but DEATH of a bachelor and on the cover Brendon is on the roof of the house and he looks like he's dead (a death)
+Panic! At the Chemical Brides
Yeah that makes a lot of sense now
Same here fam
but there's one thing to remember: he didn't stay dead, he got awaken and lives now to right side of god (1. Korinther 15, 3)
it doesn't make sense, since 1. this song is kinda religious and 2. why do you even comment sth you don't care about instead of just listening to the song?
Amen!!
Amen
Well, Tyler Joseph is religious, so that definitely means the song probably has a religious meaning, but we're not trying to shove it down your throat or anything. You believe what you want, man. You do you. We won't love you any less for it.
Tyler's a Christian and his songs have Christian meanings. Don't go into a soup store and get mad they serve you soup.
I listened tøp religiously in my early teens, now I barely listen to them (though they still mean a huge amount to me). Sometimes in my idle moments I’ll start thinking about one of the songs, and it’s actually only recently that I’ve realised what a great song this is. I’d always liked it, but it was never one that stood out to me in the album, not like taxi cab or March to the sea did. I never thought much about this song. And despite that, these last few years it’s one of the tøp songs I find myself thinking about the most. The lyrics are so poignant and I love how everyone has their own unique interpretation of the song. I always imagined the ‘her’ to be the same person Tyler sings about in taken by sleep. I’m not sure why, that’s just the connection I made I guess, the songs called a car, a torch, a death, so it felt like to me that the song ended with her committing suicide. The part when Tyler says ‘and then I felt chills in my bones, the breath I stole was not my own’ was his anxious mind, worrying about this person he’s left behind who’s struggling with depression, putting himself in her shoes. When he says ‘and then I said, I’ll take the grave, please just send them all my way’ this is him begging god to take her pain away even if it means he has to be the one to shoulder it. That part is so emotional but then immediately after everything goes still and quiet and there’s this pause. To me that part was him coming to the painful realisation that he cant take her pain away, he can’t save her, and that god hasn’t heard his cries. He says ‘I began to understand why God died’ because in feeling the pain that she’s feeling he can understand why she lost her hope/faith, and Tyler feels as if God has died because even he is powerless to save her.
This is obviously just my interpretation of the song, a pretty sad interpretation. I’ve read some theories here that when he says that god dies he’s referencing how God died to save humanity, so what he really means is that he understands what it means to care so much for someone you would die for them, which I love, I’d never thought about it like that before.
Anyway I’ve been thinking about this for days so I had to talk about it somewhere, apologies for my stream of consciousness rambling.
Thank you for sharing this! I hope you're doing well ♡
this song hits different, brings back deep deep memories. honestly forever grateful for this song
This song is my childhood. I remember I would pull up this specific song when I was sad. I was just on TikTok and I heard it again for the very first time in years. This song holds a lot of memories both good and bad for me.
This is one of the most underrated songs ever

notnicoh I just liked it. What you gonna do?
this song reminds me of a night when I was away from home with my mum and dad. it was late and we had just gone out to another town from the one we were staying in. I listened to this while looking out of the window at the street lights on the never ending motorway in the rain. the streetlights were a blur. I had a great time when we were away, it was the first time I listened to this album all the way through.
the other week it got a second meaning to me. it helped me understand what people mean when they say a band saved their life. I was thinking about it, I wasn't going to do it but I was considering what would happen if I did, the effect it would have on people. this song helped me pause my thoughts and remember the happy memory of the car ride. I listened to the lyrics.
thank you tøp

This song is the song that most describes me
after listening to Next Semester, this song means even much more. It's too hard for me to hear these words without breaking down. I never thought it was talking specifically about his experience of a sui...... attempt. You made it Tyler.
Yep that’s what I was just thinking
Do you ever wish for something but at the same time don't because it's terrifying? Death. A blessing and a curse. I would love for it to happen, but I fear it. Why is this? I have the want to die ,but I just can't bring myself to finish what I start. I get there with everything ready and then break down. I want to leave this miserable life with all my problems but can't. It's confusing. I hate it. It's...I don't know. All I want to know is why. Why cant I? Why am a so messed up? Why cant I be normal? What went wrong with me? Why and What. This seems like a lot to ask but I would like to know. I've asked so much already but how do you make the voices stop? How do you build up that confidence? How do you become normal? Why, What, and How. Questions that seem like they need to be answered but never really are. When will I change? When will I be able to not be a mess up? When will my life get meaning? When did I lose my will to move on and carry on with life? Why, Why, How, and When. These thoughts cloud my mind all the time, but I have to put on a strong and happy mask during the day. So it all breaks down at night. This is why I get no sleep and when I do I cry myself to sleep. I don't wanna seem whiny like many people who I tried to talk to said. I also don't want people to judge. I don't want people to look at me and label me as a freak or mutant. So I don't say anything else. I say this on here because you can't get to me in real life so I won't have to deal with those dirty looks in person or you being mean face to face. I can do this because if you decide to say something mean like the voices I can just delete that comment and not log back on. Sometimes I wish I could log out of life and delete my profile. Sounds ridiculous right. Yup I know but still I try to try to stay alive like people say but it all crumbles and falls and I give away my new found will to live. I'll stop rambling and whining about my problems as if you care. Good bye.
Stay alive friend I-/

i always thought this song was about disillusionment. all of these terrible things happen to the subject of the song and even when god comes to help him, he feels lost already and as though he's died. he realizes he's not cut out for this life, he's not cut out for the plan that outlined for him, and gives up. the line "i began to understand why god died" is sorta saying that this happens to so many people. this depression and this hopelessness is so abundant everywhere and if everyone feels this way, the idea of a god dies completely.
Does the air feel a little thin to any of you 🙌🏻

I'm going through so much rn and nobody notices how I'm fighting the biggest battle of my life, but thank god TØP excists and I can just go through my feelings while listening to these two :) It really helps. My parents are the most unsupporting parents ever and when I'm sad they make fun of it... sometimes they're fine but not supportive. And well I'm Introvert so I don't let much people close to me and I have only 1 person I can tell my darkest problems... but thank you Josh and Tyler, you make my life sm better
I listened to this on my way home from visiting my boyfriend. The intro made me cry hard, and then the rest of the song made me cry even harder because of the meaning and Jesus and stuff. Gosh diddly darn it, Tyler. Why must you do this?
can they please release this again. with Drown and Save and Taxi Cab. please.
Do the noises at the beginning remind anyone else of Fairly Local?
Ashie D yeah kinda
The raw emotions just pouring out of Tyler's voice is what brought me to this band. He can tell someone they are understood by just singing out his emotions. And don't get me started on Josh.
this song feels like a hug
this song is really sad, but inspiring. You can feel something inside this one.
who's still listening to this in 2020??

Your videos are so beautiful thank you for this channel😊
The line:
"I barely feel a smile deep inside me."
Represents my life a lot lately. I just really wish things could be better. I live with the hope that at some point, they will. But sometimes, its really hard to believe that. If anyone else thinks this, keep holding on, things will get better. Even if things are really bad, the light will shine again. No matter how you find it. That thought is my only hope sometimes. I hope with all my being that you will hold on to that hope too. Because sometimes that's all you can have, no matter how small it is, its still there. Life's hard, but after rocky roads, there will always be smooth ones. No matter how long it takes you to find them. I hope your life is going well, even if my is still on rocky roads. I have hope for you. Please, hold on to that light. No matter how many shadows threaten it.

I am listening this for almost 2 years now. And I just find a meaning in this song that he is talking about an adulterous lover. And her or his adulterous actions drove him to do something he might regret to end the pain. Aww. Dunno if I am right but yeah.
