I kinda like the idea that each chapter has its own complete set of resources independent of the others. No need to hold onto uses of the strong weapons if they're going poof anyway.

After player harder difficulties and self imposed rulesets
Id rather use all 40/40 of every single rapier or all killing edge uses 5 chapters in than to still have it later when stats make iron weapons pump

This hack sounds very cool. I really dig the FE4 sprites.
My takeaways are: play on a lower difficulty and use save-states.

you’re one of the few FE creators covering rom hacks. i know it’s p niche but I can see it getting as big as pokemon rom hacking especially with how accessible febuilder has made things. i frequent feu regularly as well and i still find out new hacks to try through your channel

I'm actually currently playing a prequel to this hack, the Phantom King, so it's cool to see this review pop up

I'm at chapter 2 on normal mode, and I seriously have NO idea how the hell I'm supposed to even complete it. With how strong the enemies are compared to the generics (and even the commanders get worn down uncomfortably quicky), and I have to get past a mage knight to break down the wall. It's fun so far but I'm amazed how brutally difficult it is just on normal, let alone hard

The cannon fodder aspect remind me of the langrisser series, definetly saving this hack in the future.

I’m only to chapter 4x so far, but I have to say that’s there are ways to kill the strong commanders pretty consistently, especially in Ch 3.
Let’s use Adrain and his squad of knights for example. Adrain is incredibly bulky, so you won’t be able to kill him the first turn. Instead, your best option is to kill as many of the other generic Cavs and paladins, and use your generics to bait the surviving attacks. Since all commanders have at least 10 ho more then your generics, you can use this strategy of defense via sacrifice very often.
As for killing the enemies, the key is to focus on effective weaponry. You have tons of cav effective weaponry, so trade chains are essential for killing many enemies in one turn. Of particular note is Ragnarock, the 1-3 range tome that one shots all the Cavs and does about half of Adrian’s health, with the generic mage, Humphrey, and Leon all able to use it. In fact, effective weaponry is the key to killing many of the games bosses, as most of them are Cavs or armors, and remember that you can buy said weapons in the armory’s of every chapter.
In short, by trading effective weaponry and using generics as frontline units you can easily deal with many of the most dangerous boss encounters, although note that I’ve only seen about half the game at this point.

I think it could be more interesting that some commanders have really good combat but less leadership stars and some have a lot of leadership stars but bad to mediocre combat.

This kinda reminds me of Langrisser with the use of generic units and the map sizes are just as big if not a little smaller

FE players when they discover generics. On a more serius note, I'm sold and definitely will be trying this up. Thanks for the reccomendation. Also, as someone who has never played this hack before ¿What would you think about this fix? Make the commander characters able to die, but replace them with generic ones with identical gameplay, while keeping the characters dead for story purposes. At least at a first glance I think it would alleviate the issues you had with the latter parts of the gameplay, as well as play into the hack's strenghts and reinforce it's central theme. Thanks in advance.

Hm, damn, having the big maps of FE4 without the saves sounds really rough...
_but you know, what if I play it on native hardware anyway...?_
For real though, is that a bad idea?

Eh... removing every mechanic that makes FE unique doesn't really make me want to play this. I was never able to get into Advance Wars despite its similarities to FE because I found the absence of connective tissue between maps to make the game a lot less interesting, even if it means the games can be more tightly designed. And this romhack doesn't actually seem to have tight design to make up for it, from the way you describe it.
