Herod the Great did not murder John the Baptist. John was murdered much later (around AD 28) under the reign of Herod Archelaus (Son of Herod the Great). Herod Phillip, also a son of Herod the Great, was the first husband of Herodias. When Herodias left Herod Phillip, she became the wife of Herod Antipas (another brother), John the Baptist rebuked this marriage which ultimately led to his (John the Baptist's) death.
