Just bought a new sealed one for £50 and using it as a Roon endpoint. It's absolutely nuts how good it is
Great little device. I wish google to launch a better version of the original product. And also provide gapless playback.
I like my GCA but it sounds much better when its internal DAC is bypassed by using the Toslink output. Also, I wish gapless playback worked with Tidal; not sure if that's a GCA or Tidal issue.
Stephen Kearney definitely better using it just as a dac.
They pulled the plug because they realized it was too powerful and would interfere with the sales of their current 'Nest Audio' devices
I doubt it. Everything has a product life cycle and these companies have to invent a lot and keep up with trends
I think you're correct and I also think the commenter is correct about the life cycles. They need to find new ways to profit. That's what they're all about.
I have four of these in a network system throughout my suite. They absolutely destroy Sonos for sound quality when paired up with decent equipment. Especially when using a tosslink cable. I'm buying two more new at double the original retail price. Multi-room streaming is just too good with these and that's probably why Google killed them. At least they still support them for now.
Honestly can't understand why they dropped it. Gotta buy some more before they are gone.

Really useful things. My Yamaha pre amp & Spotify do not offer a stable connection after like 20 minutes that's why I use Chromecast audio
Only issue is no gapless playback though

I think they still do. I’ve still got one but it’s back in its box and haven’t tried it for a while.

Quick question, I have my Google mini speaker playing tunein radio stations, if I buy this to plug in my amplifier for outside speakers , would I be able to cast to this and still play my radio stations?
Yes in short absolutely I think. You’d use a supported tunein app or internet radio. Get the app then check it’s got the Chromecast button first.
Still using one of these and it works really well. It's now 2021 and I looked on ebay to see if there are any for sale. Yes, but the prices have become crazy! Some sellers are asking £149! Wow!

rohan kapoor get some of these or Sonos devices possibly, but loads are doing it. Denon Heos too, Yamaha music-cast etc....
