The latest data I have on the oil weight is from the Winco Generator dealer and service center in Bismarck ND. The man who told me says they've been told that we can use 5w30 FULL SYNTHETIC oil year round. But it MUST BE full synthetic, not a blend. We have a Winco 3600 Industrial generator with 8hp Briggs and Stratton motor made in January 1984. He told me it will be fine.I was a certified Tecumseh tech for 20 years. I trust this Briggs dealer so you could, too.
So it’s not too full if the oil is visible?? My yard vac won’t start and I’m trying to figure out why and thought I put too much oil in it. Only 3 hours on it or so.
To check the oil, make sure the engine is level and remove the filler plug. The oil should come right up to the lip. If its low or worse yet you don't see any oil at all, fill it up with 30W SAE oil until it just starts to dribble out of the fill hole.

That is good to know, especially the full synthetic part
Thanks, I've got an old 8hp and it looks very similar, just what I needed. Cheers.
Glad it helped
Thank you! I have the same engine on a different tiller - very helpful!

i have this engine give to take a model or two. its a 3.5hp on a scarifier. why doesn't it have a dipstick and how can you check the oil level?

Farpoint Farms spot on mate. I’ve not had it long you see. It clearly works for you so I’ll do that. Thanks!
@@FarpointFarms why not 10W-30?
@@hungry1011 in my opinion 10w30 isn't as good for small engines unless its specifically made for small engines since its pretty thin oil
The oil in mine hasn’t been changed in years, pitch black oil
How many liter Gear oil install in 6 hp Diesel engine tiller machine
What are the gasoline requirements for this engine? Any mixure or pure?
Straight gas.
Like anything the B&S will work better with modern multiweight oil or synthetic.
