This really is the interview I've been waiting for; when Luscious Jackson comes up no one ever interviews Kate, who is actually the one I want to hear from the most. She's a talented drummer and I'm sure she has lots of stories to tell.
She’s my favorite too!
She is a complete bad ass drummer! The whole band were incredible musicians that made GREAT music!!! Totally underrated!
I love your Drumming GIRL you have A kickass grove.👍👍👍😀
how humble she is for having such a huge impact in the music scene. Great interview, incredible history in the music scene and it was great hearing her talk. She should talk more.
After watching Beasty Boys Story tonight, I'm glad Kate successfully continued to move on to different avenues of her talented life
Luscious Jackson brings me back to so many great memories!
Kate is an absolutely amazing drummer, her work with LJ. Her timing and consistency is nothing short of amazing....
HUGE Beastie Boys fan. Love their old punk rock. Great video. Glad I found this today... pets RUclips algorithm. Kate is so cool.
As a Luscious Jackson fan, this is absolutely fantastic.
Such a talented drummer - and such a down to earth lass. Thoroughly enjoyed this interview. Been a long-time fan of their music, and listen to them when I feel like 'Gettin' down!'
Have always loved luscious Jackson since the first moment I heard it. I was always into the Beastie boys and then start researching and then her luscious Jackson you ladies say all the lyrics that I wish and admire the rhythm that you put out thank you,
I met her a few times in the 90s after LJ and Breeders shows. She is an incredibly cool, authentic person.
What a great interview! Love you Kate and THANK YOU for all the great memories I have of LJ.
Kate is one cool woman! She must have some great stories, wish her the best!
whoa...that part around 10:30 when she talks about the Lilith Fair backlash was wild. She's right. Radio and MTV went full douche around that time.
fabulous!!! I miss this band so badly!
Uhhh...can someone build a time machine and bring me back to that Luscious Jackson / Breeders show, please? 🤩
TJ Hall - Yes, a fifth of whiskey and RUclips.
Done.
@@blipco5 The whiskey is key. It's the flux capacitor component of the machine.
@@jtnoodle Yes, whiskey can make many things happen, not all of them good. In fact, mostly not good. But it’s fun up to that point.
This is great, I've always been curious about Kate Schellenbach. Thanks for posting!
Kate's drumming has been getting my head bobbing for decades! She's great and I'm glad this interview showed her to be everything I'd hoped she would be!
A humble legend. Best to her!
GREAT interview.
I love her drumming!
Love Kate!!!! Most badass on drums!
One of my all time favorites!
If that isn't the coolest chick on the planet....could listen to her tell these real life stories for weeks
Love her.
Kate, always loved your work. Especially on 'Mood Swing'. 👍
Kate, you are an awesome drummer! It is so nice to hear you do an interview! I know drummers historically do not get the attention. Like Maureen from the Velvet Underground.
She is just the BEST!
brilliant drummer..love this band
Love this group.
There vibe is so dope!!!!
Can't wait for the new album! Fun interview!
The Beastie Boys part was dope! Never saw that footage before and don't recall ever hearing it on Polly Wog Stew!?
I love her. Such cool.
LOVE LOVE LOVE.
Perfect. 🤘
Love them. Still love them.
Only discovered them in the U.K. by buying a couple of C.D.'s from a thrift shop for £2. My best discovery since Pavement. Very cool individual sound. From the U.K. (Trump's Poodle.)
I LOVE AND ALWAYS WILL LOVE Louscious Jackson! You rock.
Much love for this interview. James and me watched you at Tower Records on Brodway
Bran Van 3000 luvz yaz
You and us have a lot in common, but still single no kids
My first punck rock shw was at 13:))) love your beats 4evr
Cool Kate!
So hardcore punk band beastie boys dropped Kate to have a hip hop all boy group and she went to play in a all girl band. That’s so crazy
She was being neutral and polite about Rick "DJ Double R" Rubin in that interview. In her part of the Beastie Boys book she put a little more of what's on her heart.
these girls got down. they were funky, innovative, all that jazz and good looking- I said.
This is awesome. She's great and I hope it's interesting for THE YOUTH OF TODAY to hear how a scene began and built something!
so rad
105.. loved it! Funny
She's looking much better now
Love Luscious Jackson
very interesting. My kindred spirits with all the music and art pursuit. They were just good at it.
Luscious was the absolute shit in the mid 90s.The first 2 albums especially. Kate is the answer to a cool trivia question. : Who was the only female member of the Beastie Boys? She is certainly a poineer in her field.
I could listen to her bang on the drums all day
At about 10:00, it's just fucking tragic to hear about radio programming deciding, again--for the umpteenth time--what we should all listen to. And, in doing that, we lost women's voices. Sucks so much.
Dude, awesome video.
Wasn't she also in the Beastie Boys?
Yup...early on. I just got into LJ about a couple months ago, and I love all their stuff. They shoulda been HUGE, as talented as they are. But you know how the industry goes...
+c dean just a few months ago??? lol .... man you missed all the good shit... actually they were fairly big underground... lots of people liked them.... too bad you missed out 😛
planetX15 Yeah, but Rick Rubin kicked her out when they switched to rap music because he didn't believe that girls belonged in a band. I read about it the Hip Hop Family Tree comic book series by Ed Piskor. It's a really great history series.
Darren Davenport I saw them live in the late 90s. They played in Central Park with Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. They were awesome! There's always a chance of them officially getting back together 🤞🏿😁
planetX15 ...that is exactly what she's talking about. bahahhaha
♥ Kate ♥ ♪♪
How come they're not all over yt 😤? Drinking age was 18 at a point? 😮
I would by a ticket and one for my friend's in a quick flash. Wish they would tour again.
Oooooh Kate!!!
Wow! So, finally, the actual photo for Cookie Puss. Thanks : )
hello ttm, thank you this stream of LJ from nyc from XL Recordings - followed them since high school - adam, adam and mike were from brooklyn and not sure where these 4 ladies from but maybe right there from the LES (lower east side). their first video with the vintage convertible was what i thought was irony of nyc with 4 ladies in california car. was a tower records regular when ticketmaster was in the shop for buying all tickets then. broadway had the coolest shop on w 4th. wonder if they were in the rock section or rap section. also think of them with cibo mato. elle for rapture harry
thanks to XL Recording for the return of woodstock 99 then - did not make it was out of town. it was a storm weekend.
She seems like such a cool person. :-)
Great, great cultural history.
you are not the best drummer ever, but, you are the coolest drummer ever. The latter makes you the most -best drummer, in the context, of the most relevant. Which, is the essence of great, because there is another like you.
I was trying to think of an all girl group more talented than LJ.. there isn't one.
How about L7 or the Runaways? I'm not saying one is better then the other.
Cibbo matto? “Gets defenestrated”
Were the go gos in this mix sonewhere with these other girl groups?
Great example of how representation matters…glad she was able the experience and see these bands at the age she did.
Luna Chicks!. Love LJ...
Love Kate. When she was talking about female drummers she left out Karen Carpenter.
i doubt that was the reason in 99 that females weren't on the radio. We'll in 99 there were alot of female fronted bands on the radio. Kittie, Lacuna Coil, Evanescence. Drain STH soo I think what happpen was Nu Metal come in
All my x girlfriend's hated luscious jackson haha should of known .
RIP Vivian Trimble
that last song at the end?
I would love to see them with warpaint
Erasers...Jane Fyre was on DRUMS...It escapes me now
UNDERFUCKINGUTILIZED. Sooo many bands out there over the last 15 years with busted ass drummers that should've scooped her up after LJ quit.
She should stand in for drums in Warpaint
Never heard of them.
Fall into the Gap.
She doesn't get enough credit for what she did in Beastie Boys
I always thought Luscious Jackson was a British band.
I thought she was the only one with talent in that band. She's crafty.
Buelligan88 except that Jill wrote a lot of their songs?
Is she just your type :/
@@ahhwe-any7434 She gets around
As a listener of rock music, it a shameful thing that the Beastie Boys that they forced out of the band.!
The empire that started as a joke.
There aren't "male" or "female" drummers. Just drummers.
One of the great things about the advancement of media is America is no longer stuck with whatever NY or LA shoves in front of the A&R people in those towns. The music label people wouldn't get off their asses and get out to find the talent that is all over the nation. Kate can play drums fairly well but Luscious Jackson sucked... and punk is just punk. Thankfully, it died.
Jeff Job today, we need REAL punk more than ever.
She is horrible, every thing they record drum wise sounds like a drum machine.
