    • @UrMomsChauffer
      @UrMomsChauffer 6 лет назад +7

      Andrew McKenna the idea of the 2nd Amendment is that we possess the same firepower as the government. The reason for this, is the fact that the British government attempted to completely disarm Colonial citizens because, they knew a revolution was coming. Technically, we control the military but, the government has citizens fooled into thinking it is an arm of government so, that’s out the window as far as defense against a tyrannical government.

  • @darkblue6814

    I think the whole "let's regulate guns like we do cars" argument is voided by the fact that possessing a gun is a constitutional right, having a car is not so regulating them in a similar way makes a lot less sense that it sounds.

    • @rickh5088
      @rickh5088 2 года назад +1

      And regardless of how anyone feels about that idea, guns are already WAY more restricted than cars are. You can drive alone at a younger age than you can be in possession of a gun. There are not huge categories of cars that are banned from the public from being able to own like there are with multiple categories of firearm and even entire categories of accessories that are banned (this is not the same as saying that some cars are not allowed on public streets, you can still own and drive ANY car you want on private property). There ARE places that you do not need to pass a test to prove you can handle a firearm so that is less restrictive than owning a car in these places in that regard, but you still need to pass a background check which is FAR more restrictive that owning or driving a car and FAR more restrictive than any other requirements to own or drive a car. Oh and if you are talking about private property then technically you can give your 6 year old child a semi and let them drive it all over the yard and be absolutely legal. You can even make the semi as road illegal as possible (cut off all emissions and disable any safety systems) and it is still perfectly legal as long as you don't go onto a public roadway where it THEN becomes illegal. Guns have nearly 25,000 laws on the books in this country. Even including all of the driving laws and regulations for public roadways there isn't even close to as much restriction.
      Anyone who thinks gun ownership and usage is less restrictive than driving has no clue what they are talking about. The two aren't even sort of close to comparable. Literally every human alive can go out and buy and drive a car and not break 1 law until they start driving on public streets, then the restrictions are that you are 16, not blind, and pass a basic test. That is it. They aren't even remotely close to the same as the restrictions for gun ownership.

      Nearly the vast majority of this county's murder problem (per capita) is focused in only 5 cities, and even in those cities it is mostly in concentrated areas. Take away those 5 cities and the USA ranks 3rd best for lowest gun murders (per capita). The majority of the countries with the worst gun violence are ones with some of the most strict gun laws. There has been exactly ZERO studies or legit research of any kind to show that increased gun control leads to any decrease in homicide rates. Exactly zero. And you want to completely throw out one of the core parts that the builders of this country thought were essential all because of something with zero legit proof that your fairy-tale is even kind of true. There is nothing normal about the dad sleeping around, or being abusive etc. Kids growing up in such an environment can get really messed up and develop serious psychological issues, even if they seem just normal in their adult life. There is nothing more important than a stable marriage where the parents provide a good moral foundation for their kids.

    All of these weapons were illegal- False
    You shouldn't be able to just walk in and buy firearms like this- False, doesn't work like that
    These guns were converted over to full auto- False, he used bump stocks that you don't even need to be 18 to buy
    Full auto weapons are illegal everywhere- False, it requires a class 3 tax stamp which, if you even know what that is, they are difficult to obtain
    The big problem is the gun show loophole- False, gun shows do the same background testing as any firearm or sporting goods store will
    Firearms need to be treated and regulated the same as cars- True and False, firearms are tied to the original purchaser but its only a paper trail throughout secondhand purchase. In most states, you are required to take a safety course to purchase a firearm. Cars are more regulated than firearms and they kill an exponential amount of more people per year.
    The "good guy" shooting a "bad guy" doesn't happen very often- False, according to the CDC, there are between 500,000 and 3,000,000 lives saved every year in America with firearms.
    People buy a firearm and are not equipped to use it defensively- True, in my state, you are only required to have a background check and get fingerprinted to obtain a CWP. When I renewed mine last time, there was a young girl getting hers who didn't look as if she had ever fired a weapon in her life and I couldn't imagine them knowing what to do if the time arose.
    Very little truth to what was stated but also a lot of "facts" from someone who has no info about firearms but plenty of opinions and false info.

    I think Alonzo doesn't realize just how common semi-automatic weapons are. He said something along the lines of "Don't tell me you are using a semi-automatic weapon for hunting.", I grew up in rural Nebraska and semi-automatic weapons were used for hunting just as much as bolt actions and repeaters. Not so much for deer hunting but coyotes, raccoons, fox and other fur bearers were almost always taken with semi-automatic weapons.

    Here in Maryland I had to take a 16 hr Gun Safety Course. I also had to do a field day where I had to demonstrate safe gun handling as well as the ability shoot down range. As well as take a written test. Once I went to buy a gun I then had to get federal background check before hand. So in my opinion, there are checks and balances in place for buying a gun. We can make laws until we're blue in the face. but bad people are going to always be able to get their hands on guns no matter what laws are in place.

    Here's what I have to say, I hope you read this Joe, I'm schizophrenic, previously psychotic and in Australia I get a lot of help and our government puts a big emphasis on mental health, there was a time where I was bad enough that if I had access to guns like America, I WOULD have killed one or many people! But the help I got through the system brought me back to life and "normality" and now I'm light years from that head space. Mental health is the real issue, but the amount of people in Australia compared to the US is crazy so I don't know what you could do to start some mental health program, but my theory is the more people the more help that can be offered right? I just want to testify that government led mental health programs and medicine can change lives for the better, and thanks for having non biased discussions about these topics. Mental health is the issue, but guns make the situation dramatically worse.

    I disagree with you Mr. Bodden. The gun laws we have already make fully automatic guns illegal. There is no such thing as the gun show loophole. For a private gun sale, you become a felon if you knowingly sell a gun to a prohibited person. Check the ID and permits of the person you're selling/buying from first. There are already laws in place in most states that require training before carrying a handgun. It's not a free for all in most states.
    Also, to your point about why we need semi automatic magazine fed military style rifles; it's to defend ourselves and others we love from violent criminals who are already willing to break the law. These people are dangerous, and I need every tool possible to ensure the safety of my loved ones.
    Thank you for sharing your opinion, even if we disagree. Have a nice day.

    • @melonhead849
      @melonhead849 7 лет назад

      hhwhitewolf009 I'm not sure what you mean. How is there a gun show loophole? If you buy or sell a firearm from a felon, then you become a felon. Here in Minnesota, you can't buy or sell handguns without a permit to purchase. You can sell/buy non-military style long guns without a permit at age 18, but everybody I've ever done business with has asked to see a valid permit to purchase before conducting the transaction. I've also had multiple people tell me "they lost their permit, but it's all good I'm legal." It's always a scam. Cops are patrolling the websites and gun shows looking for people that make those illegal transactions, and arrest they're sorry asses.
      So, if you could, elaborate on your point please?

Part of the reason nobody is likely going to invade their house, and the part of the reason that these houses in the suburbs usually don't even have a fence, is because of the second amendment. I've heard way too much of that happening in Europe and it's happened to my own family.

We have a steel fence and a large door with many locks.

      I am saying we don't have the second amendment or a fence and we were fine. I'm saying the gun or the fence don't protect you but nobody having any guns except for organised gangs and special police units does help. Because gangs don't break into ordinary people's homes.

      Kostas1601 this is actually a perfect example. In America, your dad would have had a gun and so would the intruder. Someone would be dead or permanently messed up. Thank God in Greece there are less guns. I would rather lose my door than kill another man even if he was a piece of shit.

    So we should have a test before we are able to buy a gun similar to a drivers test? How much do you want to bet that the Vegas shooter would have easily passed that test? The guy knew how to modify his guns. He had optics, bipods, and your favorite, slam-fire stocks. An aptitude test will definitely not prevent events like this from happening. This is an absolutely stupid argument. Any individual that grew up with guns in the family would pass that test regardless if he had mental issues or not. You can also develop mental issues later on in life, long after you have passed your "test." What you really are asking for is a Minority Report society. I hope you rethink this issue because I used to really enjoy your podcasts.

      Because if you limit a shooters ability to cause mass damage in a short amount of time, you limit their ability to kill. The victims have more time to escape and you reduce the numbers of deaths. I think we all know that sick, evil people exist and there is no law outside of banning all guns, rounding them all up, melting them all down, etc... literally all of them, and vigilantly making sure that any gun that pops up is removed. But that's ludicrous. There's no way we could pull that off and I don't really want to live in that society. But if we can at least inhibit a person's ability to mod legal weapons into illegal weapons, we can reduce the damage which is at least something. I'm not a gun control expert but surely doing something like that mixed with some money in mental health would go a long way in saving lives. There's no way we could've stopped this attack but it's possible it could have been minimized. That's my my opinion though, who knows.

    • @suomik1988

      I understand what you're saying. What if guns were completely banned? The guy could have applied as a bus driver and driven a bus full of people off of a bridge, killing himself and all of the people on board. I just don't see how banning guns or gun components will solve the problem.

    I've been thinking about this the last few years as this is happening more and more. I think it's kind of weird that we always just assume that people are not going to try and hurt us. We get into a taxi because it's yellow and the light is on, but there is nothing stopping that cab driver from killing, kidnapping, or sexually assaulting us. Just because they have a picture on the dash that says their name does not mean we are safe. Just because a cop has a badge on does not mean they are a good person. Just because the restaurant got an A+ on their health check doesn't mean you won't get poisoned by the chef when he has a nervous breakdown because his wife slept with his cousin, and slips some bleach into the orange sauce.
    Even before we had guns people did not just immediately trust that you have good intentions. People are an enigma, and until we have insight into an individuals thoughts we'll never be truly 100% safe. But how much freedom should we sacrifice for safety? There is risk in everything you do, every day. Life is about weighing risk vs. reward, if we stop going to concerts, the terrorists win. I think it's too easy to get a drivers license, a car is a tool, but a tool can be a weapon too. We definitely need some change, and no solution is going to be 100% effective. But if we just do something we may see some change, anything is better than nothing. We talk about this every time it happens, yet nothing ever changes.

    "This is exactly the time to talk about gun control"
    "These weapons were illegal in the first place"
    Thanks for proving the point of _why_ it was too soon to talk about it. The facts weren't all in. Now we know the weapons _were_ legal, so now we actually have something to consider for regulation. Before we had the facts, we didn't.
    "Do you have to be like, political to be considered a terrorist?"
    YES! YOU DO! Again why having facts is important to having a productive conversation about a complicated issue.
    Alonzo explains how he would use a gun registry to round up illegal guns. Then thinks his friend who doesn't was a registry is crazy because the government isn't coming for his guns. WHAT?!?!

    An unbelievable horrible event.... but the info below just blew my mind... wtf?
    Artist : Robbie Williams.
    Track : Me and my Monkey.
    *(Excerpt from lyrics)*
    We made tracks to The Mandalay Bay Hotel,
    Me and my monkey
    With a dream and a gun
    I'm hoping my monkey don't point that gun at anyone.
    We got the elevator, I hit the 33rd floor
    We had a room up top with the panoramic views like nothing you'd ever seen before.
    Me and my monkey, Don't point that gun at anyone, Me and my monkey, Like Billy The Kid, Trying to understand why he did what he did.
    We went to play black-jack, kept hitting twenty three,
    (There's more, google it)
