Thanks for taking the time to record this repair. Finding resources for this era of tech is sometimes obscure and I feel it’s important to document so others can keep these alive for generations to come. 8 years later, I’m able to bring my TEAC back into operation…

I really enjoy your videos. A lot of good memories from my 80’s come to my mind. I must go to my attic and bring all those old goodies for enjoying them again. You are an excellent technician. Thanks for sharing.

    Sir,
.Thank you. I bought one Teac V-700 from Ebay listed to be in excellent condition. But the belts were worn out. I opened the outer case but couldn't take out the mechanism. I searched the web and came upon your videos which are very useful and informative. Thank you once again for sharing your skill with these machines to the viewers of You tube.
    Regards

Bhasi K Funny how that works. Excellent condition on Ebay usually translates into broken, seeds service. Powers on, unable to test ALWAYS translates into "Something major is wrong" I have bought a few DAT decks that needed major restoration work. Of course I fully expected this as I have learned the language of Ebay. Buyer beware is another one that comes to mind.
But the biggest time I was ever stung on Ebay was when I sold my old professional sony camcorder.I listed every fault I knew existed, and that was the viewfinder ribbon wire was worn. This was a well documented issue with that model of camera, and I had replaced it 3 times during the time I owned it. I even included a replacement ribbon wire to the buyer, and gave them the option of paying an extra repair fee on top of the bid amount if they wanted the unit professionally serviced, and offered to discount the cost of the wire from the bid amount if they did not want it. This buyer said, no send me the replacement part they would install it themselves. Then then went crying to Ebay that I sold them a defective unit, and ultimately won the price paid back, and I lost 1,000.Ebay said it was because he had funded his paypal account with his credit card, and his bank ordered the charge back, and I was not protected from a fraudulent buyer because of this. For 10 years I never bought or sold anything on Ebay. Then for some reason I big 10 on a DAT recorder and won it.Unit arrived broken, and the service video is now on my channel.

Thats a cool deck! I like the green counter and the extra long VU meter display....maybe if I ever jump ship from Sony, I may check these out. Great video as always, thanks for sharing!

It's a pretty good deck. I prefer the Technics M275 with it's VFD VU meter myself.
They both have DBX noise reduction, which I needed as I have a ton of old tapes all recorded in DBX. I hate tape hiss and DBX does a pretty darn good job of removing it.

What are those flywheels made of, anyway? We always threw them in the aluminum bin when we were recycling electronics at MCC. Some sort of aluminum alloy?

I have a Teac V-750 that looks nearly identical to your 850 that will not play. All the belts are intact although they look shiny. Where did you get the belts for yours?

hello, great videos as always, am wondering where do you get your belts, seems like you get them in your town?, i don't think we got a store here (in Austin TX) that would carry belts, but I might be wrong. I would love to go and get some in town, but I think am stuck with internet sellers....

@@12voltvids I already have 5 used FeCro2. I would have liked to try a new one. The only type 1 that would interest me is the TDK AR-X or AD-X.

I had the exact same cassette deck. Not bad for the price but the my Sony TC-765 Reel to Reel had noticeably less distortion. Distortion was noticeable on sibilant human voice sounds in which "S" becomes "Sh". You just switch back and forth from source to tape and it can be heard no matter what tape, bias, input level settings are used. I used to use a Crystal Gayle CD for this test. "Talkin in your sleep". A great deck for the money though. I gave mine away to a friend and now I'm sorry I did as my new vehicle does not have a cassette deck.

+newjerseybt That was a relatively expensive deck at the time. I think I paid about 700.00 for it back in the day. Not using it now, after fixing it I put it away again, but might set it up in my loving room. I set up my tube amp, and my 200 disk CD jukebox, and might just hook up that deck for playing old DBX tapes, and one of my DAT decks. Just need to find a nice audio stand to put the gear in. I use the Technics RSM275 in my studio. It is a 2 head direct drive deck. I don't really use cassette for much, just to play some old tapes. I use DAT as a production tape format, and I have an old Akai GX265 Reel to Reel for the really old tapes I have.

It looks more tricky to set up the BIAS on this one .
Maybe its best to have rotary settings but who cares , they are rear enough with other people throwing them out for the cheaper tech .

Not tricky at all, it is fully automatic. Just press a button and it does its magic.

I don't when i am recording but then I don't wash my hands either. After all they are just going to get dirty working on filthy electronics.
