I wish they had made an update with Sutton Foster. The 1956 movie with Bing Crosby has too many flaws with the added Samy Cahn/Jimmy Van Heusen songs, which distracts from an overall worthy production.
@@Atlanta62 it wasn't remade, they did a different re-imagining for live TV in 1954 and they made another movie with the same title in 1956, but the 56 movie had nothing to do with the story or characters of this one and was completely a basically unrelated story.
@paulprocopolis is there any recording of the 1936 ethel version? It sounded like it would be the best version of the song entirely, it sounds so good.
What you see here is a copy of the film after 1956. When Paramount sold the 1936 film to television, they retitled the movie Tops is the Limit because the 1956 film version, also from Paramount and also with Bing Crosby, was currently in theaters.
@@ep8324 I feel like it would've been better for them to change the title of the 1956 film, because frankly, that movie _isn't_ Anything Goes, all that it shares is taking place on an Ocean Liner and a couple songs are the same. This movie _actually_ tells the story of Anything Goes and yet it was forced to change its name. Baffling.
Ethel Merman, the best singer of Cole Porter musics! Thank you for this old beautifull movie performed by her.
So great to see Ethel Merman in her 20's.
Imagine even of thinking about doing this today, and rightfully so. Forget it. But no one can deny the amazing talents here.
this and most things could be done today. stop repeating things you hear.
@@berdiewuster4956 LOL. You know what I am hearing? Have we met? Keep you responses to the point I make, not about me.
Thank you for posting
Thanks for this. Jeff! Big Cole Porter fan here.😀
I am reading mel brooks’ autobiography right now and based on his reminisces and joy, i can’t wait to watch this movie
That's why I'm here ;0) It sure was hard to break away from Mel! What a delight
He used I Get A Kick Out of You in Blazing Saddles.
Thanks for this. This movie is hard to find.
Nice to see a cameo from Margaret Dumont,
"Perfume from Spain." 1936 censorship for "I get no kick from cocaine."
That’s ol Hollywood, “if I’m not in the Chapel, I’ll be in the bar! Lololol
This is the only time Merman was in the film version of ANY of her broadway shows.
No..she starred in the film version of Call me Madam
It's called Anything Goes and they didn't even sang Anything Goes, what a bummer.
I know, right? ❤️
@@DamienSlattery68 At least they should have made a medley, not only keeping it on the film score on the overture.
Great! ❤
" Yes, Indo China....and you were in Outdoor China. " LOL. Charlie Ruggles.

Odd to see a young Bing Crosby
I wish this movie would be remade.
Geez, the stage musical recording is SO much better than...this.
The movie was remade google it

If you want to show someone something from this musical completely out of context can i suggest 14:59
what turned me off.......The songs that were cut out
Get over it.
@@TheTerryE Someone's grouchy!
There were songs cut out?
I thought I would see Ethel sing anything goes, all of it. But I dont😭
Sadly so much of the Porter score was dropped.
@@DamienSlattery68 that's so sad😭 I would love to see Ethel sing it...
@@DamienSlattery68 The best songs were omitted: ‘All Through the Night’, ‘Blow Gabriel Blow’ and the title song (‘Anything Goes’). Very disappointing!

The coke song minus the coke part.
Did Ethel sing anything goes in this one and what time please?
No . She did not
A very little bit at the beginning credits.
Any idea why they changed the title to “Tops Is The Limit”?
Idk but I'm guessing it probably had something to do with copywrite. Or maybe censorship.

Nooo, they didn't even sing anything goes. Unless I just missed it or something but I doubt it.
Ida was 17 yo in this movie
I won’t the new film with Sutton Foster 🙏❤️🙏
Too bad they didn't film the Barney Miller version.
