Mariela you’ve made it from the garage into the kitchen! You are the most respectful, polite and gentle daughter anyone could have. I hope they are less anxious about getting rid of stuff these days.
You have a lot of patience, helping your parents is obviously frustrating, however you are moving through slowly and it gives them the chance to see the benefits. Once they see clearer spaces, I pray they will start to see things differently. And who knows? Maybe there will be enough empty cupboards to bring some bulk items from the garage inside, to make it easier for your mum to access them and see what she has. I hope she's feeling much better 😌
Thank you! Yes exactly, would love to get that stuff in the kitchen so she can actually use it rather than sitting in the garage. She's feeling better now thanks you🙏
Yes - I vote for a series, you have great content for one and also helping your parents at the same time. It's a win, win and enjoy watching. Suggestions; get some free cardboard boxes to sort things into; as you're pulling things out of the cupboards, put all "like" things together in separate boxes. You'll see how many of each item you have and can downsize easier. You're going to find "like" items all throughout the cupboards as you move through the kitchen. Also - a trip to the Dollar Tree, pick up maybe 5-10 plastic bins that fit in the cupboards to contain "like" items that are being kept. All the medicine can be put in a plastic bin or shoe box with a lid & one for the batteries. One of the cardboard boxes can be for items that belong in other rooms or to other family members. Make a few boxes for donate so you don't have to handle all the donated items multiple times. Boxes can be set aside till more cupboards are gone through. The cupboard above the oven - could put another shelf in their, better use of the space or save it for larger appliances that don't get used all that often, roasting pan, etc. Don't know the layout of the kitchen, but if there's enough drawers - give one to your dad for the tool items he likes to have in the house, items can be separated with bins, etc. It looks good, you sure got rid of quite a bit. And....up to 3 spider count so far - ha ha ha...
Thank you so much Linda!! Dollar Tree has great bins to organize things with. Would be nice to get some for organization. Not sure how my parents feel about it though but I'll ask. 3 spiders total not bad haha. Have a nice day!
what a good and nice daughter you are! doing this for your parents! but i think, they should be there too and "learn" the proces too. since they can re-hoard all the things! possitive is, you are allowed to do this. that is a huge step! looking forward to more videos!
Wow Mariella, you are a very patient person! Good work today. I was wondering whether it might be worth finding all the medicines in the rest of the house to put in the kitchen cabinet as well so that nobody feels like buying more when they can see all of what they have already. (I'm just guessing that there might be other places where they are lurking!) Best of luck xxx looking forward to the next video xx
Your parents are so lucky to have you helping!! I can see the difference. I added little boxes to my cupboards for when I take things down...like that one section you have with all the medicines. Helps so much for ease of access. This will be a great series. Also congrats on your book Mariela!!
Again you are so wonderful to help your parents declutter and organize. If oven is broke, i suggest they remove it and make cupboard space. Also put some items in plastic baskets and label to organize
Great thing you are doing for your parents. I know it is overwhelming for most people, doing the organizing 1 or 2 cabinets at a time is the best way. Congrats!
Great job Mariela 🙌 I'd love to see this as a series 👍The cupboards look so much better, hopefully as your parents use these more simplified spaces they'll feel better and be more able to let things go and maybe be able to declutter other areas of the house that need some help 😊
How wonderful Mariela of helping your parents de clutter their home. I DEFINITELY need to do this at my parents house. Their kitchen cabinets are FULL! Definitely tackling one area at a time helps to get the job done. Thanks for the motivation!❤
Hi... Love the video. For the cabinet small pieces and batteries... You have some smaller empty containers in the garage from the last garage vid... Your dad put them in front of the left side of the new shelf.
I truly hope you are getting an opportunity to educate your folks about keeping so much and especially about outdated stuff. It would be so much easier for them to keep house without being so overwhelmed. I've wondered as I've watched these videos if some professional counselling would benefit them.
As much as I educate them and show them how great it is to live with less, it is mentally hard and that part I can't help with. Counseling would be great but they are not the type of people to believe in that unfortunately.
i would get some dollar tree plastic shoe box containers (or a little larger ones) and put your dad's like items together, also see if he could put an shelf in the cabinet.
Great job-I really enjoyed this video. I love the relationship that you have with your parents. You are doing 'helping' right. Yes, please make this a series. I hope mom is feeling well now.
Eventually, I would find a clear plastic shallow bin to corral the small medicine containers. It is so much easier to pull out the bin, find what you need and then put it back in the cupboard. Otherwise the stuff tends to get toppled over and buried.
Great job, and thank you for helping your mom. I know this will be hard, but I would just for fun count how many $$$ you have just thrown away, simply to be aware of it so that in the future you become more intentional with your purchases.
I think I might have said “client” instead of parents 😢because it’s hard to believe that “your parents” are hoarders. but this is my first time watching you so maybe I’ve missed the back story. Either way, I am desperately watching while decluttering my kitchen. Thank you for your videos. I’m looking forward to watching them all.
I wonder if any of those batteries were still usable.... Did you have to throw any of them away? This was very motivating to watch, btw! You're doing a great job 😊
Thanks Amy! No didn't throw any away. Since they were all mostly mixed together there was no way telling which ones were good or not. So have to test them all out lol
Check the dates on those batteries next time you go; batteries usually have about a 10 year out expiration date from their time of manufacture- they can erode over time :)
When you lived at home, did you keep your room minimal like you live now or did you become a minimalist later on? Are your siblings more minimal too? Just curious 😊
Hi Mariela! Good job helping your parents declutter, I am doing the same for my mom. One very important thing. Do Not bin any medicin. It should Always be turned in to a pharmacy (or other facility) for destruction. Raid, thay you put back in your dads cabinet really shouldn´t be in the kitchen, it contains toxic stuff.
Improperly stored batteries can start a fire. I can't imagine living in that level of chaos where nobody knows which ones have never been used and which ones are totally used up. The Battery Daddy storage case includes a battery tester. I was going to suggest you buy it as a Father's Day present but your dad might need a portable tool box instead!
I'll be sure to let them know that, I wasn't aware and maybe they aren't either. I can't imagine it either lol. I'm not familiar with Battery Daddy but i'll look into it!
I see that ur parents have a lot of meds for digestive issues. They should see their primary care doctor & get referred to a GI doctor (gastrointestinal). I am truly being sincere & not trying to bad mouth. Please tell them to see their doctor. There are certain GI issues if not treated and/or identified can cause cancer in the long run. Great video. God Bless

We grew up in the era of not having enough and having to hold onto things for a rainy day. Its a process to over ride those fears.
I think you have little baskets in the garage you can put your dads stuff and put in the closet

great idea! after the whole kitchen is cleared out i will be stopping at the store to get all the bins and containers :)
Hi Mariela! This will be an awesome series to do in the kitchen! I look forward to future video’s 😊

I heard about it once but will have to back and revisit that!
Yes! Was wondering on an update on their home 😊

Would it be possible to put a caddy or small tool box in your dad's cabinet, or would it be to heavy to lift it down from up there?
Maybe a small one would work. That's a great idea :)
When you lived at home, did you keep your room minimal like you live now or did you become a minimalist later on? Are your siblings more minimal too? Just curious 😊
I became a minimalist after moving out :) and I'm the only one my siblings are the opposite lol
Organize into general zones...screws, tools etc.
It will take a few attempts.
Thank you!
Great job..I know dealing with father's is hard.. they want to keep it all..lol

Oh yes, that’s right about the medicine. Some pharmacies have a drop box you can place the medication
@@carrie3206 Yep and sometimes, if you are a member of that pharmacy they will give you points/rewards for dropping of the stuff.
