THANK YOU , Everyone, for the many well wishes, kudos, compliments 🎉, and laughs. It’s surprising how well received the two series have been!! I told April, she needed to clone herself! 😊
I think several generations before us were really affected by war and the Great Depression. They kept everything to use or repurpose, then the next few generations were blessed with growing options and affluence. It’s good to be content with what you have so the extra can be shared😊 it’s a lot easier now to be able to identify the surplus. And it’s nice in semi-retirement to have time to address all the neglect. This has all been such a blessing!! To have such a talented and helpful daughter and hubby is just AMAZING!! Thanks TSD and subscribers for making it all possible!!😊😊😊😊
🎉❤
What I find interesting is that, although many Americans have really big kitchens in comparison to European ones, the typical kitchen cabinets are really small and narrow. Our kitchens in Europe are mostly tiny, but the cabinets are wider and bigger. Funny.
I noticed that too! I think these typical small American cabinets would be ennoying! I like my small German kitchen with wider cabinets and wider drawers!
Yes, I noticed that.
That's really interesting! I have a very small (American) kitchen and I hope to remodel it in a few years; I'll keep this in mind.
@@Jasmine-in-my-mind That's wise, I think. Here it is normal to have up to 80 cm (around 31 inches says google) wide cabinets with 2 "doors". It's very practical. Wide drawers are convinient too! Even for pots and pans and dishes.
@@Jasmine-in-my-mind If you're going to get new cabinetry, go for drawers on the bottom. Much easier to see everything and no more crawling on your knees to get to the back of the cabinets.
Would not mind a 3rd season also😄 Keep going!
That’s exactly what I thought!
That would be fantastic!!!
Agreed!!!
I agree!
Agreed! Plus, I'm sure mom would love to have her daughter over again for some time, now that April's living abroad once more. 😊
Your mom's personality is real shining this season. She is doing a fantastic job! Her decluttering muscles are getting so strong. 💪🏻👏🏻
I totally agree!
Your mom is so cute! She has been doing a great job decluttering her home.
Thank you so much!
April, I really have enjoyed your Texas declutter series. Today when you mentioned hard copies of cookbooks vs the internet I had to smile. At 70+ I have always loved my cookbooks. But, in recent years, I have embraced technology. My solution is to thumb through a cook book and mark the recipes that I might possibly use. Next I use my iPhone to take a photo of these recipes. And I have found that the notes app on my phone is wonderful for organizing these recipe photos. I have many recipe categories - breads, candy, cakes, jams, veggies etc. - I simply title the note and add each photo individually and instantly I have a searchable recipe index. It is wonderful to have recipes at my fingertips when I am shopping at the grocery store and can’t remember what I need to buy for a certain recipe. Kudos to you and your Mom for tackling an entire house. And I loved it when your Mom referred to a kitchen with unlimited space, because I am a firm believer that no matter how much space you have, you fill that space. I think this is just human nature. Keep those videos coming! There are millions of people in this world that need your help!
I love that and good for you!!
The less space, the less you collect. Ask me, I have a small kitchen with limited cabinets. LOL
I'm 23 and still like physical copies of things. While yes it's online, sometimes you have to pay to view a manual or can't find the exact one to match the appliance. I'd rather just pull it from the shelf instead of spending time searching the internet
As many seasons of your parents home you can get away with do more please? I know travel is difficult but we love this series
Haha! 🧐
Wow your mam is amazing. Her decluttering muscles 💪 are getting bigger every day. The space they are claiming back is brilliant. Will you end up doing a 3rd season because I’m absolutely loving it. Well done to the space maker team 👏 Stay safe and healthy. Mary, Joes wife 🙇♀️🙇♀️👏💪👍🙏💐🦮
Haha I'm not sure but we'll see!
Tell your Mom she is so great, so real. And that’s what is so fun and appreciated about this series.
So real is right. Which you can see April has inherited. They are so cute together. They are fun to watch.
I think I’d enjoy her as a neighbor! What a great personality! I have many of these same interests and the content of our kitchens are even similar. I’m enjoying this series, I generally watch on the weekend, and it’s been like visiting friends 😊 Thanks so much.
@@tinabennett8524 ☺️ that is soo nice! I bet we’d have a lot of fun as neighbors! When can you move? 😂
Please, remember, best-before-date does not mean product is not good after that. Especially with tea etc. They might have milder flavour, when they get older, but they are still usable.
Btw, organizing teas to drawer, is my favourite way organizing them. Especially, if you use them reqularly! Way easier to see everything and be organized.
Yes, the teas are still ok after they "expire"; maybe just a little less flavorful.
I agree in general, but if the tea is 4 or 6 years old it’s obviously not the person’s favorite, they’re not drinking it regularly.
As we get older the greatest challenge is accepting we don't have the energy we use to have. The second is parting with items we no longer use but there are memories attached to them. We should also part with plastic containers such as Tupperware, Rubbermaid, etc. which probably contain BPA 'cause they were made in the time before we knew about BPA. The less we have the easier to maintain. Thank you so much to your mom for inviting us into her home and setting the example for us.
Your mom is hilarious as usual 😂 what I loved most is how clear it's become that people('s preferences) can change. When you said about the hanging utensils that your parents want them there and that they'll never change their minds and shortly thereafter your mom said she was growing tired of it, I almost did a joyous cartwheel (if I weren't concerned about losing a tooth) 🥳
I think I did a cartwheel too!!!!
Every time I hear Mum say “That can go” I’m like (fist pump) “Yeah! You got this!”
I laughed about the peanut butter mixup. I had a Halloween party one year, and ate one of the cookies before everyone arrived. It tasted so weird, I put them back in the box they came in. I was going to return them until I realized they were dog treats!😬 My dogs loved them.
Oh no! Haha!!
bahahahahahaha
@@SpaceMakerMethod What is the difference between dog's peanut Butter and human one?
Bahahaha!! 🎉 I’m glad I’m not the only one!! Lol
@@LeaSonnenscheinTrier
Our Schnauzer has a particular preference for Peter Pan Honey roasted Creamy pb!(very human pb!😂)
For those hard-to-access corners and shelves, use plastic bins or trays as "drawers". Even Nana's old brownie pan can be repurposed as a pull-out tray for sliding out a group of items. You can use the plastic bins that you're decluttering, and save money, too.
Great idea!
You can contact Tupperware about the cracked brownie container, and they’ll send you a comparable replacement item for the cost of shipping only (around $7)!! They have a lifetime guarantee. You just have to give them the “model number” which is printed very small on the item.
Oh darn threw out the other one that I bought for a dollar!! Not sure 7$ in my wheelhouse! Haha jk!!😂
Thanks so much for the info! Didn’t know that!
You and your mom are really a Dream team! I'm on the train on my way home after a weekend at my parents house. We have decluttered a lot of tiny things, rearranged stuff, thrown out old shoes etc. They are in your parents age and have lived in the same house for over 40 years and they have never initiated any decluttering by themselves, but we do it together now and then. Lots of love to you and your family, you are all awesome!
Sounds like you made some progress! My parents have also been here for about 40 years. It's amazing how things just add up over time! Hope they feel a little lighter in their space.
I appreciate how you left your mother’s cooking utensils hanging where they were. For those of us who are visual organizers need to see things or we lose sight of them. Learning that I do better with clean containers was so helpful for me.
Yes! It's all about finding what works for yoU!
Your mom is definitely getting into the groove of decluttering which is so great to see. Obviously the first pass really helped and she’s seeing the benefits. It’s great that you’re being supportive and not pushing her. I hope she has a little step stool handy somewhere - she could access things a lot better if she just had a few more inches of height!
She actually does have a little stool in the kitchen for that very reason 😝
Your Mum is so lovely, its great seeing you together ❤️
😊 thank you
Well done mama Space Saver! Treasure your mama I lost mine in 2019. X
I lost my mom February 2019. Hugs to you.
Your mom is an excellent space maker! 😊
Thank you! 😊
Amazing! Mama-April is powering through and flexing her decluttering muscle - very satisfying! Much respect for your mum and little helper pup.
Just did this with my mom. She moved from house of 60 years into a senior apartment. Major downsizing. She had that same biscuit cutter. Definitely motivating me to my kitchen too!
I'd imagine that was A LOT of downsizing!!
Wow, who is this mom? She was on a mission, serious and ruthless using fast decision-making skills. You two did a great job and as always, very enjoyable to watch.
haha, right!?!?
Thanks! It comes and goes! Mostly gone right now but have to find that gear again!
April come back!! Lol
Can we get your mom a space MIXER shirt ??? Lollllll 😂
bahahaha 🤣
😂😂❤
Great job, you two! Your mom has really seen the light! WTG Mom!
😁 She has!
Hello
The kitchen really hit home with me. I have a small kitchen with limited cabinet space and limited counter space. I did a major sort-out.....decluttered, downsized, donated! I was kind of amazed at how much I could part with and still have a fully-functional kitchen. And as I get older, it was a goal to keep those top sections of my cabinets empty. If I can't reach them, then there shouldn't be anything stored up there. Running the dishwasher every night (whether it's full or not) and emptying every morning also helps me live with fewer items.
Yes! I run the dishwasher every night, full or not. It's worth it to make daily life less chaotic.
Why am I watching and realizing I’m getting therapy? I help my mom sometimes clean and de clutter or organize and I realize I’m much harsher on her than anyone else… thank you for showing me there’s a different and better way. Your mom is lovely!
Also, IMMEDIATELY looking up the cherry blossom tea on Amazon! Can’t wait to try it
It's true. I think we all just feel more comfortable with family to do that. The tea is sooo good! Here it is if you don't have the link already: www.amazon.com/shop/thesuitcasedesigner/list/LQ7QARJPTYAB?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d
Aww thanks. Yes she did a great job! That tea is great even just to smell it and great with a dab of honey too!!😊
Watching your decluttering videos gives me motivation to attack my own secret spaces. WATER BOTTLES!! They must multiply when the cabinet doors are closed. I swear I didn't have this many last week.
Seriously tho! They win the prize for the most duplicated item!
😂I agree! They multiply like rabbits!!
Your mom is adorable! Thanks for helping her!👏👏👏👏👍😊🙏
For the corner where the jam jars were a lazy susan would help. That’s what I did in my cabinet and I love it!
Wow! Mom is really in the zone now. I found that I got rid of so much more stuff on the second pass too.
Amazing decluttering session! You've and your mom have definitely proved that 2nd passes really work! Kudos to your awesome Space Maker mom!
Thank you so much!
An easier way to open jars is to use a heavy handled butter knife or spoon, use the handle to tap all the way around the lid of the jar, it will release the suction of air and you'll heatr a little pop making the lid easy to open. Just discovered your channel, you have a beautiful fun Mum. Really enjoying your videos, loved the Dani series all very inspirational. Thanks so much. Best wishes from Australia 💐
It was nice to see more of your mom on camera - she’s doing such a great job and staying motivated. Proud of you, Mom! 🤗🏆
Thank you so much!
I just adore your Mom. Seeing you two together makes my heart full. I lost my Mom in 1984 so I miss that relationship. You guys make me laugh.
Thank you Billie 💛
😊 lost mom in 2018. I have a number of seaside things in the front room that were hers! This pass wasn’t quite as hard as the first one. The memories just flooded in. Very difficult!!I could not have done it without April!!😊❤
I’m your Mom’s age and even if recipe is from the internet it has to go on paper before it can be cooked. It’s great to see how much your mom has relaxed about the camera!
It would be fun to see your parents eventually become minimalists. You said that will never happen but I can tell your Mom is beginning to see the benefits of owning less. 😁
I love your mom!! Great job!
Love seeing your mom cuddle her dog!
So fascinating to see how much we think we want, that we can let go of. What a difference it makes. I love paper cookbooks/ instructional books of any kind - gardening, building, nature etc. even though I go to the internet for info on all these things, because there is no guarantee the internet will always be available, but I am of that "older generation". Caught that "Mom" trick of "you did so well I will give you 15 minutes more!!! " But she let you get away with it! Bet your mother will enjoy how light and free she feels because things are pared down and so organized!
I keep repeating myself, but every video I watch I get up while it's playing & I get more & more organized. Thank u again!😊
Hey April, can you get a shot of the kitchen before and after (the declutter stage so we can see how much space you made)?
Yes! I'm kicking myself because I found the last folder of these video clips today. I knew I was missing something but couldn't find them! I think I'll add them to the end of another video. We kind of finish the kitchen throughout the week, so I'll be sure to show you guys!
What works for me in dead corners is a lazy susan. I always use the turnable cheese board from ikea. I have one for oil and vinegar, for cleaning supplies and for tea. Keep up the good work. I really like your channel because it is a lot closer to real life than others!
Well done April's mum 🙂💛. That was excellent progress and has motivated me to declutter some of my kitchen items x
Oh yay! I'm so happy to hear that!
Wow your mum did an amazing job decluttering her kitchen! Really loving this series xx
Thanks so much! 😊
Nice job decluttering mom !!
Omg, your mom is the best ❤
I love watching you and your Mom declutter 🎉
So fun to see it all coming together - I know it's not a makeover per se but it's definitely got the "ooh so pretty!" factor
I'm so happy to hear that! Thanks for watching!
Why do I love this series so much? Because it's so addictive 😘 you're both doing a fantastic job, please make series 3. 🤣
haha thanks Tessa!
Your mom's hands are simply glorious!!!!!
Aww how nice!! I always put the remainder of the daily face moisturizer and sunscreen on back of my hands. Years ago I saw a beautiful lady that played a lot of tennis, but her hands were terribly Sun damaged. It made quite an impression!
Loving these videos! It makes me feel like I can do my house but I think I need some help. I have to say your mom is precious and I can tell a difference in her since the first declutter! She seems to feel much lighter and happier and it makes me so happy to see that! It is incredible how our space can affect our lives so much
I'd move the items in the gadget drawer down to the next-lowest drawer and put the utensils that are on the counter into the top drawer.
Great declutter! Your mom's energy and your supportive role are so wonderful. Btw, I have the exact same green vase with a "frog" lid.🧡
Oh how cute!
Your mom is so great!
I love this second series so much! The sweetness of your time together really shows. I love watching you and your mom tackle these huge and life changing projects together. Great work!
I agree!
Thank you Lisa~
Love it, would love to see more, your moms doing a great job😊
More to come!
Proud to your sweet momma, fighting!! 😁💪
More more more of decluttering! It’s inspiring me to do the same!
you got it!
I really appreciate your mindset and your patience. I suppose your mom is the same
💛
How it starts "SPACE MAKER 💪🏻"
How its going "smace smaker 🥵🥴"
This also is how I feel midway through a declutter lol 😆
But after its done then you get to admire your work with a hot beverage and gaze at it like a dad who just finished mowing his lawn. 🤣🤣🤣
Or an adult beverage 😂
Wow! So good! Mom was on a roll!
She's the space maker now!
I need to get busy and do some decluttering but it so much more fun to watch you do it.
😂❤
Keep these episodes coming! Although I love the decluttering and advice, I absolutely adore the way your Mom takes care of her dog!❤
I loved watching this! I didn't want it to end!
I wish we could have done it longer, but it started to wear on both of us 🤪 Gotta take it in rounds!
There may not be more videos, but KNOW there is always more to declutter!! Lol😅
This episode made me both laugh and cry. I laughed because I'm so much like your mom - and I have so much tupperware and "Oh, hey! I have that Pampered Chef chopper, too!" You are so much like my oldest daughter and she is so far away I don't get to spend time with her so that brought a few tears. It was so nice to hear you both laughing and having fun while working. Please thank your mom for sharing. I'm so happy for her and only a tiny bit jealous. 😅
Distance is difficult! When I see the videos and see what the kids did, well it’s just AMAZING!! I know I will enjoy re watching these when I miss her!!😊 when I talk to other retirees or soon to be, I can’t help but feel so thankful for TSD family!!!!🎉🎉
Great job mom!!!
Ohhhh...I'm always so sad when the video ends! You and your mama are so sweet together. Another great job y'all. I know this wasn't an organizing video-so excited to know that one will be coming. Personally, I would have to use one of those hutches (?) as a pantry so all of the food could be in one place. Thanks for another great video!
Yes ,having your food all in one place makes it so much easier for cooking and restocking.
I would love to do that for my parents!
There are cabinets on the other side for the food to do just that. Aprils great grandad made the hutch! Found a water bottle under there too! Lol
What a absolutely wonderful experience for you both. It's great see your Mom embrace the notion of letting go of things she doesn't use and the doubles.
Thanks for watching Sara!
Hi sara
Great job! I feel like when i was a kid, these decluttering concepts weren’t around. It was maybe your family did a garage sale once a year and that was it. Cant wait for the closet declutter.
Oh I agree! It was a very different time.
I wish you could come and declutter my kitchen and storeroom in Australia! You did a great job. Bet you feel so much lighter.
Wendy, I’ll come to Australia to do it for you! JK lol
I think I can add an good argument: you said that your parents were content with being maximalists and you want to be minimalist. I really wouldn't mind this style. It's maximalist, yes, but it also gives a kind of comfort because everything looks like it has a place in there and that makes our brain happy/satisfied. If your mother was really minimalist, she'd have a lot of space left over and that would maybe feel too neat/empty. This is a happy medium.
Agreed! I have felt that same thing in “sparse” spaces.
I think you can’t count!! 😂 She’s so cute.
love your kind and and loving approach to helping your mom organize and declutter.
Wow you really helped your Mom get organized. I know it is hard but she will be able to find things now. Great job
Thank you so much!
So much fun to watch! This week I found myself wishing I could shop the donation pile, so many intriguing things. The turkey platter is so gorgeous (but huge!), I've never seen a vase with a 'frog' lid, and I need to know what those 365 ways to cook hamburger are! 😂
Your mom is adorable. Thank you both for sharing with us!
Thanks for watching each week!
Your mama is adorable 🥰 the work you’re doing is amazing 🤩
Thank you 💛
We have that same orange rectangle container and use it all the time and ours is broken in the same place. 🤣 Many brownies and cookies.
Great job ladies!
God this is my Mom's kitchen to a T right down to the plastic container collection. BTW when one of the lids to a clear container goes MIA, mom uses it to corral smaller items like cookie cutter and those Knorr envelopes she uses so you might want to hold off on ordering more containers.
The dynamic duo!!!❤
I'm really enjoying this series.
Yay! I'm so happy to hear that!
Live watching what I wish I could do with my family
What an adventure
Thanks Susan!
love watching you work with your mom! thanks for sharing this journey with us :)
Thanks for the inspiration to just starting to declutter.
You can do it!
I hope we get another episode of the kitchen! I'd like her to go thru the spatulas, whisks, etc all together at once. Right now, they are scattered around the kitchen. I bet if they're all in front of her together, she'll see a lot of duplicates.
Hello
Your mom is awesome!
💛
Great job, ladies! It’s looking good! Keep up the good work!👍🥰💜
So proud of your mom!
Love your mom’s spirit! Excellent job of another round of decluttering! Truly inspirational!
Thank you Bernie!
Go mom! The last basket that you guys touch would be perfect in her kitchen for all her utensils. ( You’ve probably already done this.). Love this video!
I was thinking that same thing!
Isn’t it amazing how those expired foodstuffs crawl into a dark corner to die!
how do they always do that!?
Great job!! It’s amazing what we all collect!
The only way i've found to make those deep corner cabinets work is to have baskets at the front and rarely used items at the back. That way, you can take the front stuff out pretty easily to access the back stuff, but you don't have to do it often. Seving platters, turkey roasting pans, back stock, spare parts, or memorabilia all work there. I treat it a bit like a crawl space or attic.
I’m envious of your mom’s Tupperware collection.
haha!
The bacon keepers are the only Tupperware left! The rest was ambitious and ran away!😂 the colored bowls WITH lids that match interior of bowl were from Avon 5 or 6 years ago(believe it or not!!).
Oh I have a Nana Mixer too. I think it is the original wedding mixer for me from 1994. Your Mon is so cute and reminds me of the conversations I have with mine. Great video!!
Those were some well made mixers to have lasted so long!
Hope this series never ends
Yeah me too.
I just bought the banana cutter you got rid of. It was advertised as a strawberry cutter. Also cuts mushrooms and olives. I’ve been using it a lot.
Ready for the next decluttering video and I hope your mom is too! I enjoy these videos to get myself motivated in doing the same thing.
Love it! Thanks for watching each week! More to come!
@@SpaceMakerMethod I’m new so this was my second video. I really enjoyed watching your mom and how calm you were with her with her items. 😀
Big, fast differences!👏🏻👏🏻
