    Thanks for the video!! I don't have a spray gun (since I'm just an avid DIYer) so this method is absolutely perfect and cheap for me, cheers!

    If the pva is a bit thick on application,just add a bit of water to the mix to "thin" it down ,job done

    Hi Stephen, your probably applying too much, try and sponge just a little on, basically overload a sponge and squeeze it just about dry then wipe on in one continuous motion, you should barely be able to see the film, any problems give us a call , best rgds

    Just one point. Always paint away from edges. Never towards.

    I want to wrap over abs pods carbon fibre skinning says to add pva first is that just help pull off. Or can I spray glue the part or mix resin first then lay my weave on I want the weave to stay in place

    • @ecfibreglassuk
      @ecfibreglassuk  3 года назад

      Hi, the PVA is to stop the part from sticking to the mould so use that first

    Can this be used on particle board? And if any preparation is needed such as a base primer what product would you recommend?

    • @ecfibreglassuk
      @ecfibreglassuk  3 года назад

      You would need a base primer to prep the particle board surface to mould from, but then yes, you could use the PVA release agent

    Nice Job, But, what was that surface you put the PVA on ? Was it waxed.. Everything beads up on wax.. Do I need mold release ?
    I'm trying to make my first fiberglass mold. I'm making Hub Caps for my truck.. I CNC made my own design out of expanded stryrofoam.. I like it, I coated it with lots of Poly Urethane, sanded it, and put 4 coats of car wax on it, It's slick and smooth, I'm ready, but nothing sticks to wax.. What now ? LOL !

    • @ecfibreglassuk
      @ecfibreglassuk  6 лет назад

      Hello, the PVA in the video was applied to unwaxed melamine as this is fairly self releasing. We tend to use it a lot for various jobs.
      You shouldn't see any beading on the waxed surface, as it should be a fine coat with even dispersion. If you see fish eyeing, you've got a little too much wax in that area and will have to touch up the PVA for an even coat

    • @mccanlessdesign
      @mccanlessdesign 5 лет назад

      I've just used Johnson wax in the yellow can from Home Depot; 4 coats, and the PVA went on with zero beading-up.

    is this a specific PVA or can you use PVA glue?

    • @ecfibreglassuk
      @ecfibreglassuk  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Natasha, the PVA release agent is completely different

    • @THOMASTHESAILOR
      @THOMASTHESAILOR 6 лет назад +2

      PVA mold release is "Poly Vinyl Alcohol", PVA glue is "Poly Vinyl Acetate" .. It can be confusing. Don't listen to any You tubers that tell you they use watered down glue.. It's BS.. I've already made that mistake..

    if you add it to a surface which is a bit rough (Marine plywood) will the fiberglass still release? if you where using wax as well do you add the pva after right? Thanks E

    • @ecfibreglassuk
      @ecfibreglassuk  4 года назад +1

      It's best to get the surface as smooth as possible, sand it down and use a base primer to fair it off

      @@ecfibreglassuk fair it off? what does that mean?

    • @ecfibreglassuk
      @ecfibreglassuk  Год назад

      @@snorttroll4379 basically get it to the finish you require. there are many products you can use. the method we use is that we seal the ply with a good sand and seal varnish such as shellac. then sand its down, then apply several coats of Durabuild surface primer. once cured use wet and dry sanding down to maybe 1200 or 1500 grit then polish with a polishing compound such as farecla select if a shiny surface is required.
