+Zero You'll *sort* of be able to do so in SC when it's done. Not the number of ships, mind you. But each ships internals can run on its own server so with a lot of multiplayer ships you can have quite a few players in a small area. Also, large ships can have their own servers around them too responsible for what's happening within them with neighbouring servers only displaying the finished computations in the form of ship positions, shot positions etc to the ships in them etc... So in the end you'll kind of have the huge battles of EVE, but only if the ships are sort of spread out... If they suddenly all end up in the same exact spot... Well, that would be interesting I guess... I donno exactly what they'll do then. But my guess is that they'll split the area up into several bubbles. So new ships entering that area enter a mirror server or some such instead of the same one and then the load would be balanced based on who knows who and who have who marked etc... Hopefully you won't notice it in the thick of battle though. And I guess a tiny bit of time dilation is also possible to introduce in worst case scenarios.
Yup which is normal for an MMO. I think they will do a "beta" in Spring 2019, release in summer with normal MMO balance changes and improvements going. I mean once they put in the ship buying/renting they will have a large slowdown on money coming in and they will need subs and other ways to keep money coming in. I'm definitely looking forward to Squadron 42 releasing.
Again I believe that if they are stating that ship rental/purchase is coming in 3.3.x then they will need to start getting this out the door soon as possible as people will be playing and building their fleet up without the need to purchase new ships for real cash.. I don't believe they are that far off from a workable release product that will be improved over time ala any mmo. I'd say in 3 months 3.4 is out and they are working on the Org system and Full Persistence. Then 3 months later they are working on the server mesh..Beta starts. 3 months later they may do a openbeta then release.
Full persistence is going to take them anywhere between 3 and 6 months, it's definitely not a two year task. Same with orgs, and I'd expect around the double of that for server meshing, which puts the full release anywhere between 12 and 24 months. I expect the "minimum of four years" "wait, make that five" "six, am I funny yet?" kind of people to shut up by the time we reach 3.5. At that point, we'll have an almost complete star system with multiple planets, including moons, cities, and a lot of stuff to do in the game.
Surly Studios Ok, i'll take the bait. It might be a con job, but the best con job ever? If it's a con job it's a pretty bad one, the hired more than 500 people around the world and have 4 studios. The best part of this is that, once all the basic mechanics are in game we'll switch to beta and they'll start really polishing and iterating on the game-plays tiers (beyond tier 0 anyway hehe). I am hyped! :D
My Prediction is: Squadron 42: 2020 Beta Release, 2022 Official Release Star Citizen: 2026 Official Release (All Ships in game and large amount of systems and base gameplay mechanics) Overall: 14 year development, with a company made from scrath with 2 Triple A titles (Avg. 7 years). Sounds pretty good to me.
Reality: Cloud Imperium shuts down and says we ran out of money sorry we didn't deliver a single game for your quarter billion dollars. Chris Roberts sad memo to backers: We had a dream and tried but came up short... Thanks for believing. Goodbye! *walks away wealthy*
It's funny how this game, too, kinda uses the approach of developing technologies for the military (Sq42) first and then later the civilian sector (PU) benefits from it.
Great incite. How many games do this? Server meshing/PES being a key marker for when the game becomes a real game makes perfect sense, providing server meshing does work well after all. Will be interesting to see how far it can go... Like how many players in one battle?
When we talk about other species in the universe...we should expect species which are high evolved in behaviour, technology, knowledge and nature. There should be species on other planets which are not killing anything but able to protect themselves. Planete-modls which a rich wilderness. The humans are maybe a young species in the universe. We dont have to expect that others species are killing and harm the life like we do it. Chris you can implement this in the game this would make the game unique.
this game should be an open source/rsi controlled developpment sandbox so everybody can create additionnal content and add/sell it to the game through years.. such as mods or addons (on the same basis as FlightSimulator) it would be incredible and make SC the master of all NextGen Mmos

@@mercenum5186 I am pretty sure he said at one point during this Citcon the they were just about ready to release the first chapter of SQ42 soon after OCS came online. Wait for the end of November for the anniversary events and they just might announce something along those lines.
it's always interesting seeing how the feelings of the comments section as a pillar gets crossed. with server meshing being tested by the PTU, and talks of 1.0 on the horizon, seems like we're just missing orgs at this point 😅
So... we're not gonna talk about adding gameplay loops or content... we're gonna release this as a big bundle of tech... and the game part of the game will come later. I mean, I really liked the physics and flight model talks here... but Chris' redefinition of words is so extreme that I don't understand the plan and this ended up raising more questions than it answered. Aside from redefining release, he had things like "ship combat" marked as "complete" even though 3.4 is bringing new flight model changes that they're still working on, so I'm not super clear on what definition of "complete" they're using either. If they release the game just because the core tech is done, and they're selling UEC, as they add in new game mechanics and have to rebalance the economy periodically, either they'll need wipes, which they'll only have the option of doing if they're still in Alpha/Beta.. but if they go and call the game released/ready, those errors/exploits will be just like in E:D, where being a millionaire was so easy in the early days that the economic problems still persist today. I mean... fwiw, the "road to release" seems to be mostly a road to Beta, that ignores the funding goals at robertsspaceindustries.com/funding-goals ... then he capped it off by rehashing last years promise of a SQ42 roadmap, almost verbatim from Oct 13, 2017, when he proclaimed "Squadron 42 will be the focus of our Holiday Livestream in December, where we will preview some gameplay and share our roadmap for its completion." TBH, this is the segment I was most excited for, if you read through my old comments, you'll see that this is what I was looking forward to... but the segment didn't actually answer many questions, and certainly raised more than it answered.

Please make the forgotten ship, the Redeemer, a high tier Bounty Hunter ship. The game has enough drop ships, and Bounty Hunter is the only role that I can think of that doesn't have a high tier ship for it. Since the Redeemer fell off the map and seems to be a dead ship, you guys can give it new life....it has serious potential for Bounty Hunters. (Replace troop seats for prison cells) The Cutlass Blue, Hawk, and Stalker are cool ships, but they seem to be a 'beginner level' tier. (The Cutlass Blue is a bit better, but not by much.)
there will be no "release" as they will publish a release every 3 months. The "completed" game will be when they have added in some specific core technologies ie OCS, Net Bind Culling, Server meshing etc. This road map does not include any game play specifics just the core tech that is needed. Game play will be added on top of those core techs. He just went over the tech thats already in and whats left is more persistence, server meshing and org features. Then the game will be "complete" from a tech perspective. But they will still release a build every 3 months like they do now.

The best part of this is that, once all the basic mechanics are in game we'll switch to beta and they'll start really polishing and iterating on the game-plays tiers (beyond tier 0 anyway hehe). I am hyped! :D
Tone that hype down. You got 20 years before any of that happens.
Funny watching this even though I was there in person.
Is it 'bind' culling or blind culling? I'm aware of the latter, so I'm confused.
My Prediction is:
Squadron 42: 2020 Beta Release, 2022 Official Release
Star Citizen: 2026 Official Release (All Ships in game and large amount of systems and base gameplay mechanics)
Overall: 14 year development, with a company made from scrath with 2 Triple A titles (Avg.
23 minutes never flew by so quickly!
Great Citcon, well done everyone! CIG and attendants alike.
Yeah, great job everyone, except whoever was in charge of the streaming. The 3 min audio lag behind video was unexpected in 2018
Best CitizenCon yet 😄
Hyped INDEED!!!
HYAAAHHH!!!
I misunderstand the title as 'Road to Release: 2948'
Chris you can implement this in the game this would make the game unique.
now kodzima is past - we have a new visionary, NEW GENIUS
the 2948 on the coners its the release date right XP
this game should be an open source/rsi controlled developpment sandbox so everybody can create additionnal content and add/sell it to the game through years.. such as mods or addons (on the same basis as FlightSimulator) it would be incredible and make SC the master of all NextGen Mmos
I sure hope CIG can accomplish this in a reasonable time frame.
This aged like milk 😂
The most awesome CitCon ever!
So, is this a full fledged MMORPG with one huge server and millions of people online in the same server, full PVP, skills, stats, levels, you know... just like Freelancer and Freespace promised but now fulfilled in its full MMORPG form (??).
Eternal Flow thanks for the reply. And no thanks CIG.

I would love if the 3rd person view had targeting, but only if they made it like SCUM where you can't see around corners until your visual cone is actually looking in that direction. Even now I still think they need that tech in the game.
really hope base building / raiding comes too.
Was confirmed around a year ago
Yes
Sandi looks great on those red shoes!
I bet there are only people in the front 3 rows.
just relized I dont think he got the reference when they said "42" after he jokeingly asked what is life. they were refering to the hich hikers guide movie im guessing he was thinking they were screaming about sq 42.
He definitely knows the reference though, considering squadron 42 got the 42 from hitchikers guide...
He thought everybody's asking about Squadron 42 and he started to sweat a little bit because they didn't have much to show on it again. Just a couple minute trailer for everybody. I still can't believe that everybody is okay with this. The single player game should be further along. Go look up videos of Chris Roberts himself telling backers that they should expect Squadron 42 in 2014 2015 2016 2017 I can't believe people keep making excuses for this
@@mercenum5186 I am pretty sure he said at one point during this Citcon the they were just about ready to release the first chapter of SQ42 soon after OCS came online. Wait for the end of November for the anniversary events and they just might announce something along those lines.
First! Basically the game will be publically released well before we have the 100+ promised star systems, etc. My guesstimate is 12-18mo.
I want Full systems not random generated like ELITE :(
Star marine will most likely be released early instead of with the multiplayer to keep people at bay.
everything will be designed by a real human. They just use procedural stuff to help make those assets to create fully designed systems
Soo maby 2025?
I hope not...
It already is public. These are basically the foundation pillars to a core game loop. So yeah 12 months is reasonable.
it's always interesting seeing how the feelings of the comments section as a pillar gets crossed. with server meshing being tested by the PTU, and talks of 1.0 on the horizon,
seems like we're just missing orgs at this point 😅
So... we're not gonna talk about adding gameplay loops or content... we're gonna release this as a big bundle of tech... and the game part of the game will come later.
Think about it this way, you can't have a game if you don't have the tech first.
CockatooDude put it this way first. How can you promise something if don’t know how to make it or the technology to create that doesn’t exist !!!! How is that ?
@@CockatooDude You are right after 8 years development and 300 million dollars spent they still don't have the basic tech they need for the game xD
I'm happy to see all this coming to fruition.6th
I want a release date, but I also want this game to be the greatest game of all time, so I’m okay with the long wait.
2021 or 2022 99%
@@marcorossi8740 Yup
will the RAM requirement for 3.3 be lower? e.g. 8 GB?
some people have good experiences with 8gb in the PTU
can we get a voice modulator to drop his tone an octave or two?
I recommend watching at 0.5 speed instead.
no way, I love the muppets
lol, he still sounds normal at 1.5x speed.
I have lost faith in all other big video game franchises and I am really hoping that star citizen can be a bright spot in the darkening video game industry!!!!! I have faith in SC don't let me down CIG!
It’s in the title...2948 lol
The sound of his teeth nashing together oh man you need to make more of these.
Shouldnt it be named: CitizensGotConned 2948?
where's the download? i only see 3.2.2
Speedj2 PTU means private test universe. You will need to wait for it to hit the PU (persistent universe) if you weren't invited to the PTU.
god give us strength and patience
Was this filmed through a screen door?
is it ok to cry knowing that there is an end goal to this game
It seems like my laptop may be able to run it. Anybody off hand know if I can run this on an MSI GV62 8rd laptop?
Is the Kool-aid at least cold today people?
i have a bad feeling about this really really bad.
I hope to be able to build and construct houses, similar to rust or Empyrion
Ability to dig and build on an area of land you have brought, you simply have rights to build on said land and you can sell resources on the land
Hey guys with the sale of ships in the game, the sale of ships for real money will continue or not for at least until the 2019 anniversary?
More a verse than a symphony.
you weren't kidding about the 2948.... XD
Yeah... Well I'm not even going to watch this...... Just let me know when the game is fully released.
Ok, we'll wake you from your crio sleep in a few decades
10:40 If players buy a nuclear carrier it will be manufactured by NPC?
Yes, every ship and item in Star Citizen is supposed to be produced by NPC.
+Nils Holgersson But can we see them working?
This game ans company will change the industry
Marketing industry xD
2948..... Is that the new release date? Sounds about right.
Starcitizen release date December 2948 !🤣
17:14 a game like no other
Please make the forgotten ship, the Redeemer, a high tier Bounty Hunter ship. The game has enough drop ships, and Bounty Hunter is the only role that I can think of that doesn't have a high tier ship for it. Since the Redeemer fell off the map and seems to be a dead ship, you guys can give it new life....it has serious potential for Bounty Hunters. (Replace troop seats for prison cells)
The Cutlass Blue, Hawk, and Stalker are cool ships, but they seem to be a 'beginner level' tier. (The Cutlass Blue is a bit better, but not by much.)
TLDR?
I'm still @ work...
there will be no "release" as they will publish a release every 3 months.

Chris thanks you for buying his next pair of jeans
Hey Star Citizen devs, how about looking at working with Spatial OS for the server stuff?
@starcitizen you gonna release the game for xbox one x users? it can run the game just as well as pcmasterrace
