ABOUT THIS GAME
Charles is a bloodthirsty train, and you need to destroy him.
Navigate a massive play area in your trusty old engine.
These winding tracks are treacherous, so you'll need to plan each mission carefully. Be wary when traveling on foot, or switching the track's direction; Charles might be waiting for you.
Upgrade your train to fit your needs.
Go looting or complete missions to find "Scraps", which can be used to turn your train into a death machine on wheels.
Get help from the townspeople.
Help out the settlers in return for high powered weapons, and other items vital to Charles' destruction.
Fight Charles to the death.
Complete the main questline, and summon Charles to a mortal duel. If you’ve gained enough strength, firepower, and skill, Charles may finally meet his match.
My channel generally focuses on a more casual side of speedruns. With these videos I want to show off cool speedruns, explain how they work, and entertain. Hopefully you enjoy the content and maybe even take up speedrunning yourself, because it is truly a lot of fun!

eugene is the best npc you're supposed to follow because he's actually the same speed as the player so it's not absurdly tedious to go with him

A slow npc is better than an npc thats faster than your walkspeed but slower than your run speed
Eazy is the only person ive ever seen who just runs through the map with no fear of charles

Imagine what it must feel like to be a character in game, absolutely terrified of something, and then seeing someone casually beat it in 23 minutes.....

Like I've said before, I've love to imagine "speed runs in game" perspectives, like Charles chasing a seemingly almost harmless puny train try to run away from him only for minutes later see the same train fuck him up in a few seconds
I feel it feels even more insane because of just how human the running looks in this game, its just so unhinged
imagine the perspective of the cultists. they just hear a guy running by, explaining how he's going to beat the rest of the game
Its not exact, but if you look up terminal montage, he has something similar to this. Yes, its historical.

Imagine if the train did keep moving after jumping off and there was a way to work that into speedruns.
Yeah like imagine jumping off the train, then calculate the speed and the time you left it so you can get to a place, do some quest then go outside and have the train right up to you
i want a hard/realism mode that makes the train keep going when you leave and removes all npc markers (excluding already met npcs and things that have been marked by said npcs). it could also remove the feature of respawning scrap and massively increase charles/cultist damage (but slightly reduces knockback)
When you die you respawn at the train, if the train kept moving i garantee people would die at specific times so that they would respawn when the train is in certain areas.

Yeah probably, the train might be working on a proximity trigger or radius. If you can trick the train in key short areas of the game that you are actually still on it... You might shave off a few minutes off. (Not on long areas... Say like the 3rd egg. Since you might find the train ready passed by the ruins to put the eggs in)
I cant imagine what this was like from Charles’ perspective. Like you’re this ancient spider creature that is seemingly unstoppable and this random guy just shows up to the island and whoops your ass in less than half an hour of showing up.

I love it when Easy describes Eugene as being “pretty slow” when in every casual playthrough other youtubers will tend to stop at the door and watch him absolutely BOOK IT up the hill, when in fact the player is faster than him.

The irony of playing ‘Railroad Wrath!’ from Cuphead during this, the boss theme of the train boss, the Phantom Express, is amazing

When your train is out of health you take damage instead. I'm pretty sure that the player can take 3 or so hits worth of train damage before you die, so theoretically you could save time by waiting to repair by face tanking a few hits. TAS for this game would also be pretty insane since if Charles hits you right you'll go flying forward. If you get him in the right places you could theoretically get Charles boosts (same with guards).
Cultists: I worship the demon train, but man, this guy is fast!

Eazy is basically faster than light. Even if Charles saw him, it would look like a bit of light appearing for half a second and disappearing.

BTW FYI, the cultists in this game aren't actually cultists in literal sense. Warren was trying to help the island, he evacuated people on the island and hide the eggs to ensure their safety. The reason he hid the eggs is as you seen at the end of the game, when you enter the eggs into the prism, it releases a beam of energy which would destroy the egg but Charles can also absorb it to grow stronger. And it's really hard to stop him from absorbing the energy (because go figure, a rocket launcher can only scratch him a bit). So, without knowing how strong Charles can grow with the last eggs, he hid them away from people who tries to die hard with him. All implies in a note near the end of the game. So he's actually a hero in this game as opposed to you who can potentially destroy the world by creating Hell Charles. But after the credits, we can see there are thousands of eegs deep down underground so eh, the moral stand kinda the same
Sequel: APOCALYPSE OF THE TRAIN SPIDERS
It's... A little more complicated than that, basically Warren went to the island on the first place to gather the eggs and use their power as a source of energy since he is the owner of the minning company that we see all through the game, they found the eggs and decided to use them but that liberated charles who started to wreck shit, it's implied that Warren did a couple of thing to try to stop Charles including causing a cave in to try to bury it and then explain it away as an accident but it obviously failed
Ultimately once they discovered that the eggs power up Charles and that the whole situation has completly gone out of hand Warren did decide to hide the eggs and start evacuating the island, so he isnt necesarily a hero but neither a villain, he is a man who bite more then he could chew

Eazy is the only individual alive who can declare himself faster than the insane superhuman that is Eugene
i love the fact that he has the phantom express song from cuphead in the background it just fits so well and when i realized what song it was it even made me laugh. Someone managed to make me laugh while playing a HORROR game. Bravo

Honestly, when I first played this game I didn't even know Eugene had some last words to spare. I thought if I lingered around Charles would come right back for me, so I got the hell out of there.

Imagine you're a cultist in the mine, and this guy just runs past literally everyone, takes your egg, and then runs slowly to the entrance before straight up looking you straight in the eyes while you shoot him. Then later, another one of your cultists tells the same story.

You can actually switch rails from inside the train instead of hopping out switching and starting the train back up again, might save like 15 seconds in total
Since armour removes overall damage taken and damage makes the fight faster, exponentially, and speed permits you to get away from Charles' attacks, wouldn't it be more efficient to add a little bit extra into each one of them instead of hoarding to repair?
He is doing this so casually, I can only dream of speedrunning this game that fast
it's fun how the main character manages to kill Charles in 1 night with some old train while the people in Aranearum tried to kill Charles alot of times and failed lol

This game had some incredible moments. My favorite being when charles said it's choo-chooin' time and choo-choo'd the bejesus out of me. Truly one of the games of all time.
I will love to speedrun of horror game. Normally it will be like scary, but in speedrun it's more "So this is Charles, it's a evil train, but he is not important for now. So now we are going to see John who will give us our first mission." Like the scary thing that make the game scary is only a NPC.
