wolves aren't really that big of an issue though if they attack you they either die or get left with very low health leaving a lot of meat, guts, and a pelt. I see it as a plus
I’m actually in the process of moving from the Camp Office in Mystery lake to the Gas Station in Coastal Highway, it’s a long walk and I need to do 4-5 trips to actually move all of my important things but I think the Gas station is in a great area for long term survival. The only drawback is it doesn’t have a big stove like the camp office has, being able to cook 3 things at the same time is a great thing about the office
Same, it's my favourite "first main camp" to use, 'cos it puts me at a quick run to the Dam, Trapper's Cabin and a short distance to Forlorn Musket to craft some early arrow heads.
Same. I always use it as my first base as it's a nice central location (and often there's a bunker not too far). I try and manage 30 - 50 days here before moving on to the Dam and then stretch it out until I'm ready for Misanthrope's - Good for 100+ days. Then on to Desolation Point ... etc ...

My boy started up a new game, all gung-ho to make his way to Trapper's Cabin against all odds. As soon as he spawned in, he was in the damn cabin. We laughed pretty hard. No gun though.
Hilarious! Yeah, they removed it, at least on the hard mode. Still haven't found it - after about 20 hours in HM, I have found 2 revolvers though, that's nice.
For me, the riken is a horrible base location. I also require a certain level of homeliness from my base, and the banging and annoying noises make me feel uncomfortable. I also hate Milton House. The house itself is very nice, but the surroundings have eerie noises and never feel safe. My absolute favorite is the Trapper's cabin with the lonely lighthouse and the camp office not too far behind.
I have lived at lonely lighthouse for a long time, it's not worth it. Pretty dangerous location for a bear and wolves, there's a cave where they spawn. They location is shitty because it's right at the corner of the map and the only thing that worth there is a new revolver and the riken furnace. I have died because of the long way back.
Trapper's Cabin and the Quonset Garage are my favorite spots to hunker down for a bit. I like to make it over to the farmhouse in Milton for endgame living.
The trappers cabin actually does host a bear and wolves. It is good loot, though probably not the best place to go if you don't want to encounter a bear
I'm not alone! I circled that door at least four or five times yelling, "Where's the door? Where's the door?! WHERE'S THE DOOR?!" I finally see the door, "Oh... there's the door." I promptly facepalm myself.
Yeah, the lookout tower isn't really the most rewarding shelter but it is still very iconic and relatively unchanged from 2014 to now. It was the first place I stayed the night in after loading the game for the first time, and watching the storms outside was just so harrowing and immersive.
Story mode needs to get here like.. Now. Lol. I'm so sad, i had been surviving for 85 In game days on TLD and the funny thing is. Is that just before i died i had a good 4-5 day journey from the bottom of timberwolf mountain to the plane crash, and during the journey. I SHIT YOU NOT I came Within a HAIR Of Death (I was at 1%) at one point and BARELY Made it and spent the next few days from there constantly leaving a cave to go out to scrounge together firewood to keep myself warm and each time i did it my condition went from 11% to 3% and so fourth. I ended up getting lucky and a wolf killed 2 nearby dears and i was harvesting them for food 5kgs at a time. Anyways, it was a fucking struggle. But i Didn't die on Timbberwolf, Nope. I died outside of timberwolf in that wrecked cabin next to the rope that you use to get into timberwolf mountain.. And i was at 100% condition.. I got hyperthermia cause i slept in there with a fire i lit until morning.. And froze to death. HOORAY! .-.

The first time I tried to survive for a long time, I made it 17 days in. I entered the Ravine to get to Coastal Highway and I really wanted to get inside the ravine (this was back when I was very new to the game, it was my first time leaving Mystery Lake). I found an easy way down, which was a bunch of boulders lined up to almost be like a staircase. I dropped two feet onto another boulder and died from falling injuries because it was off the map. I was pretty pissed, since it was such a frustrating way to go, but in hindsight it's kinda funny.

Lol..
It's awesome to look back at old videos like this and see how much the game has improved and expanded over the years. That footage of the old lookout before it was destroyed was really cool to see and it's kind of strange to see you talking about everything without the context the story added but also pretty awesome.
Maintenance Yard has a lot of suplies, a bed, a cooking barrel, and a forge. How can it not be on this list? And the Lonely Lighthouse is also very great.
Pleasant valley is the hot spot so far. Basically any place with Six burner stove. But with pleasant valley you can set up a good rabbit trap line. Basically pleasant is best for rabbits, collecting sticks, 6 burner stove and quick access to timber wolf for a moose.
I have to ask, is the Timberwolf summit a safe place? I wouldn't imagine any bears or wolves living up that high on the mountain, and since there's supplies, you might be able to set up a supply cache or semi-safe base.
Paradise Meadows Farm was my favorite place to stay for a long time. Tons of supplies in the town, there was a rifle on the bed in the farm house, a revolver in town, bunnies and deer everywhere, berries, saplings,... just a great place to stay.
My favourite place of all I explored so far is the Hydro Dam. While big, dark and intimidating, exploring the place with just a light from your storm lantern brings some kind of inner peace to me. Also why is that wolf callef Fluffy? THERE ARE STAIRS UPSTAIRS IN THE SHIP?! God damit. Well at least I guess I have something to do while waiting for bear furs to dry out, which doesn't include playing pyromaniac starting two fires over and over again.

I figured some things would be missing since I know the video is a few years old, but since that's one of the original locations in the game, I sort of expected it would be high on the list. Surprised it was missing completely because it's probably one of the most well known bases in the game lol. Awesome video though, I loved hearing more about some of the spots I'm not as familiar with.
Personally I prefer the hunting lodge over any other location. The chance of a moose spawning allows for the creation of a moose-hide satchel, and there are wolves and bears that spawn in surrounding areas. There is also a high chance of a rifle spawning, along with mukluks or ski boots. Going from the lodge to the maintenance yard is easy when you scale the side of the cliff.
Awesome watching this video and seeing how much has changed! they added so much stuff to this game, Carter Hydro Dam was so barebones and different! I love that this game came out in 2014 and they are still working on it! I wonder if it'll ever be a final product?! maybe when Wintermute Episode 5 comes out?!
Currently holed up at the Pleasant Valley Farmhouse on Stalker difficulty. Aside from the occasional need to clear out the farmlands of wolves (current record was 10 wolves in a day), it's a nice place. I live in the porch with a bedroll because it's just too dark inside to make use of the bed.
I think some of these don't exist anymore? I have played all of story mode so far, and survived 91 days, but broken railroad doesn't look like that anymore! I wish I could have experienced that long high train trestle!

I love desolation point. I have found peanut butter on the riken before so definitely check it. I still prefer living in the lighthouse, using the riken as a little shelter while traveling between hibernia and the lonely lighthouse.

The best place to hold up is the Mountaineer's Hut on Timberwolf Mountain. You can go fishing, hunting or trek to the plane crash. I really want to fix the roof, but I can't even close the blasted window! What is up with that?
TDL has the same graphic style with Firewatch. Combined with the forestry lookout wich is a mayor aspect of firewatch, its very possible those games feel similar to you XD

My play through I survived 240 days and travelled almost every region and I struggled to make to hushed river valley to realize there was nothing there but a slow death for me I could never find my way out of there
I love Milton, and I always set up base in the Grey Mother's house as well, but...easy? lol I've never heard anyone call it that. It is compared to some of the more recent areas that have been added I suppose, but the constant wolf attacks alone make Milton a not so beginner friendly place in any difficulty above Pilgrim. You can't even walk out the front door without at least 2 wolves spotting you instantly. But yeah, it does have an insane amount of loot, and I usually start in Mystery Lake and head to Milton as soon as my supplies start running low.
The best base location is the revine cave near the mystery lake entrance no wolves and deer and rabbit spawn plus close to the dam, if you take a short cut through the river you can get to the actual lake pretty quickly to fish in mystery lake also in the ravine there is a lot of wood
one of my favorite locations is the lonely lighthouse, the views are amazing and it makes a pretty good base. And what are those bunkers? never found it
Where is that lighthouse? In what part of the game? What bunkers are you talking about, never seen those? Maybe you meant the dam. It is in Mystery lake, just follow the rail road untill you come to the end of it.
i will agree that the timberwolf summit was a bitch and a half to get to, also it's hard to see where the climbing spot is (i passed it like three times before i found it lol). It's the closest to death i have ever been to on this playthrough. I spent like 20 days surviving in the plane thanks to a container full of MREs. Thanks for showing the forge. i have been alive for months and have never seen a forge, i think that's the best part about this game is that i'm always finding new stuff to utilize!
7 years later and I believe that Desolation point is the worst region. It's not necessarily bad but it's really small and I thought that the remains of a whaling industry would have more to offer. Maybe one day they will hopefully add more.

Yeah, I didn't play the game until after it was taken out either, but I still feel a little freaked out in the dam anyway, because I always imagine what if it was randomly added back in at some point by the devs just to mess with people lol. Plus the dam just has a creepy atmosphere to begin with.
I am pretty sure that fluffy won't spawn on the easiest mode (Pilgrim mode?), has a chance to spawn on Voyaguer, and will probably spawn in Stalker. I don't know about Interloper. In my opinion, meeting him's probably one of the most iconic experiences in the game; and frankly the chances of fighting him are very high unless your on peaceful mode
4:27 I downloaded the Faithful Cartographer update and the Forestry Lookout was destroyed in my sandbox. It sucks because I was looking for a starter base to get settled in Mystery Lake before hiking up the hill to find it in ruins. It was a cool change, but I just wish I knew that before giving up and falling to my demise.
There is a new forestry lookout near destroyed one. If you have a nice day you can easily see it from many places. Tip. find camp office, exit it from backdoor, go straight and a bit to the right and climb.
The ONLY THING ABOUT THOS GAME I HATE IS YOU CANT JUMP!!!!!! i fell in a very small ditch and died i couldve just lift one leg up and get out of it but cant. :(
i think jumping should not be added but instead vaulting over stuff because jumping in games is super unrealistic but it should fatigue you a little bit and the vaulting distance should not be crazy high maybe like a very small ditch like the one you were stuck in and not being able to if your to heavy

I don't see anything wrong with adding jumping, but you shouldn't be able to jump very high (or it should be based on how encumbered you are at the moment, because it's pretty hard to jump in real life when you're carrying a loaded out backpack). And it should also make you take a hit to your stamina like you said. And I also think there should be a cooldown time, you shouldn't be able to just run around jumping like Super Mario every five seconds lol. But it would definitely help get out of situations like the OP fell into, because I have a feeling we've all gotten stuck like that at least once in the game.

The game has changed a lot, in 2018 the locations in this video are far more polished with many more items on the ground.

My play through I survived 240 days and travelled almost every region and I struggled to make to hushed river valley to realize there was nothing there but a slow death for me I could never find my way out of there
Some of my favorite locations are the Rural Store and Misty River picnic area.

I like the big house on the left when you go over the bridge into Milton. Yep Milton is easy but I like the atmosphere of the once bustling community.
Milton is my preferred starting zone. All the loot is condensed into a small area.
I love Milton, and I always set up base in the Grey Mother's house as well, but...easy? lol I've never heard anyone call it that. It is compared to some of the more recent areas that have been added I suppose, but the constant wolf attacks alone make Milton a not so beginner friendly place in any difficulty above Pilgrim. You can't even walk out the front door without at least 2 wolves spotting you instantly. But yeah, it does have an insane amount of loot, and I usually start in Mystery Lake and head to Milton as soon as my supplies start running low.

The best base location is the revine cave near the mystery lake entrance no wolves and deer and rabbit spawn plus close to the dam, if you take a short cut through the river you can get to the actual lake pretty quickly to fish in mystery lake also in the ravine there is a lot of wood

one of my favorite locations is the lonely lighthouse, the views are amazing and it makes a pretty good base. And what are those bunkers? never found it

Where is that lighthouse? In what part of the game? What bunkers are you talking about, never seen those? Maybe you meant the dam. It is in Mystery lake, just follow the rail road untill you come to the end of it.
Ram69 lighthouse is in desolation point, and on every mode but interloper weapon cache bunkers spawn randomly in a few maps
I accidentally stumbled across trappers cabin, just randomly exploring mystery lake.

As long as i have any decent building i can make as my base then i can usually build myself up from there. Still a useful video tho 👍

i will agree that the timberwolf summit was a bitch and a half to get to, also it's hard to see where the climbing spot is (i passed it like three times before i found it lol). It's the closest to death i have ever been to on this playthrough. I spent like 20 days surviving in the plane thanks to a container full of MREs. Thanks for showing the forge. i have been alive for months and have never seen a forge, i think that's the best part about this game is that i'm always finding new stuff to utilize!

7 years later and I believe that Desolation point is the worst region. It's not necessarily bad but it's really small and I thought that the remains of a whaling industry would have more to offer. Maybe one day they will hopefully add more.

Yeah, I didn't play the game until after it was taken out either, but I still feel a little freaked out in the dam anyway, because I always imagine what if it was randomly added back in at some point by the devs just to mess with people lol. Plus the dam just has a creepy atmosphere to begin with.
There's an "agressive wolf" in episode 4, maybe an ode to fluffy?

I believe a wolf does still spawn in the dam on harder difficulty but I haven't looked recently

I am pretty sure that fluffy won't spawn on the easiest mode (Pilgrim mode?), has a chance to spawn on Voyaguer, and will probably spawn in Stalker. I don't know about Interloper. In my opinion, meeting him's probably one of the most iconic experiences in the game; and frankly the chances of fighting him are very high unless your on peaceful mode
in my current game (50 days on Voyager) i ran into him, wrestled and headshot him
why do you have matches equipped so many times? what's the use?

4:27 I downloaded the Faithful Cartographer update and the Forestry Lookout was destroyed in my sandbox. It sucks because I was looking for a starter base to get settled in Mystery Lake before hiking up the hill to find it in ruins. It was a cool change, but I just wish I knew that before giving up and falling to my demise.
There is a new forestry lookout near destroyed one. If you have a nice day you can easily see it from many places. Tip. find camp office, exit it from backdoor, go straight and a bit to the right and climb.

The ONLY THING ABOUT THOS GAME I HATE IS YOU CANT JUMP!!!!!! i fell in a very small ditch and died i couldve just lift one leg up and get out of it but cant. :(
i think jumping should not be added but instead vaulting over stuff because jumping in games is super unrealistic but it should fatigue you a little bit and the vaulting distance should not be crazy high maybe like a very small ditch like the one you were stuck in and not being able to if your to heavy
@@carsonbaird3904 I feel pretty much the same about it I think. I don't see anything wrong with adding jumping, but you shouldn't be able to jump very high (or it should be based on how encumbered you are at the moment, because it's pretty hard to jump in real life when you're carrying a loaded out backpack). And it should also make you take a hit to your stamina like you said. And I also think there should be a cooldown time, you shouldn't be able to just run around jumping like Super Mario every five seconds lol. But it would definitely help get out of situations like the OP fell into, because I have a feeling we've all gotten stuck like that at least once in the game.
