I read the name Samuel Kummer for the first time when ordering his double-CD with JSB´s "Art of Fugue", recorded by him on the magnificent organ, built by Bach´s preferred organ builder Zacharias Hildebrandt in 1746 and restored in 2000, in the St. Wenceslas Church of Naumburg ... Upon hearing that CD, I was overwhelmed, even more than by the recording of the same work on the same organ from the 1970-ies, published on Vinyl by Christophorus which at that time impressed me more than anything I had ever heard before ... I cannot describe how sad I am upon hearing of the passing away of this great and generous musician, apparently while waiting on the Dresden main train station for his connection to Würzburg where he was supposed to teach his organ pupils ... It would not surprise me, if the court case with the "Stiftung Frauenkirche Dresden" has weakened him to the extent of breaking down physically ... Also, it would not surprise me, if his fabulous recording of JSB´s "Art of Fugue" in Naumburg would play a role in the whereabouts underlying that court case ... Rest in Peace, dear Samuel, your Art (and in particular your Art of Fugue) will never be forgotten, may you forever play to God´s Glory in His divine presence up there ... Soli Deo Gloria! ... Maybe it wasn't fully understood. He was a great organist (even if sometimes overshadowed by others....) and a good teacher. May the earth be light on you, dear Samuel.

What a beautiful principal / prestant sound
Yes! Almost like a Viola da gamba...
@@aeolusianer aber etwas kräftiger. So oder so ein schöner Streichprinzipal.
@@aeolusianer Singend Prinzipal: bekannter als Viola di Gamba + Vox Celestis aber hier angewandt aufs Prinzipal: 5:20
RIP - a great musician.
enthousiasmante interprétation de cette œuvre mythique sur un instrument extraordinaire : sehr vielen dank für dieses !
Samuel Kummer! I've got his Vierne organ symphonies 3&5 on SACD, and they're marvelous.
Yes, he recorded them at the Frauenkirche, like 8 years ago!
