- Well!
Its always a pleasure to meet up and talk shop with my Lil’ cuzin JD SIMO!
JD and the Gang were on tour with the Allman Betts Band, so we drove out, fixed some amps and had some fun!
I wanted to talk about “Red”, this beautiful 1962 es335
So, here is the video and the inside story on JD’s number one!
Thanks for all the support!
PEACE!
I personally feel JD Simo is one of the most underrated guitarists alive. That being said, he is also one of, if not, my favorite guitarist alive. The man is an amazing musician. That is so awesome that ya'll are friends. He seems like a genuinely nice guy. I just wish he would of played a bit in this video. But still a great video.
JD is a great human being over and above his playing. It’s nice when nice guys succeed. I’m blessed to call him a friend, but he’s a friend to everyone!
Such a treasure in all regards!
I completely echo this! I hope they do a new collector’s choice of red, so fun to follow how this great tool is shaped again and again by the great JD!
e. tienne I’ve never played any of Gibson’s replicas of this instrument, but I’ll bet they are amazing!
Got to meet JD (& Red) in person. Was a great honor. Such a friendly, humble guy
Thanks Nik.
That poor guitar is just going to turn to dust one day.
JD is such a genuine guy.
My old man's got a real cool old 60s 355 that sounds killer.
Great video Nik. JD is such a great player. 🙏
More JD! Absolute hero. Thanks for another great video.
Cool video. Love JD! And the 335.
Dude u got to do more videos like this, where you really show a players number 1 guitar! That was 👏
JD is my spirit animal!
🤘🤠🤘
J.D. is awesome! I wish I knew you guys were in Salisbury. That’s not far from where I live now. I would have gone.
Great to see JD on The Riff! Such a fine player!
And a great friend!
The force is strong in this video.
What a damn good interview!!! That guitar is the bee's knees
Excellent video, many thanks from London UK!
Thanks for playing it..
Check out a video or a live show!
My favorite guitar player. Thank you!!!
This was remarkably unpretentious and pleasing for a guitar video. JD Simo is a monster player.
Big fan from Germany..looking forward to see him again live. what a great musician and human
Cool..JD is the man !! 😊
Nice...i saw JD in NYC last year...so cool upfront at a small venue. I met him after too. Amazing player! Was disappointed he played a Pelham Blue ES not that ONE!!!
Outstanding man. That guy is the real deal over many.
What a fantastic show that must have been. Great to see two friends in a good place.
I was at that show! Man J. D. tore the roof off
Nik great interview with JD! I love the real player wear on JD’s 335 and think it adds value. JD is truly one with this guitar and everyone should go watch him play it!
these boyz are are such a great team!
Enjoyed this, thanks Nik 👍🏼👋
seems like a nice dude. love your vids!
Thank you!
Do a video on his pedalboard, looks like he is experimenting more with pedals!
Great vid from a great guy and a great player
It's crazy how much wear he put on that '62 in just a few years time. That thing looked near mint in a Premier Guitar Rig Rundown he did back in 2014. Dude must sweat acid and have sandpaper forearms lol
Great video brother, thanks!
GREAT!
Great video Nik! Hearing the story of a musician’s #1 instrument is a special thing. Keep it up!
Awesome video
Loved this ! 😎🎸🤘
Very Cool 😎
I've seen JD twice. Great shows.
I'm just about to get the push/pull out of phase setting put into my 335 based on hearing JD's. Love that sound
Yes. Did it to my 335 and its great!
@@theriffwniksevigny5473 good to hear, can't wait until I get it back!
I’d like to triple like this video. Two of my favorite guys.
Great Vid Nik.....
I hug J.D. everytime I see him, and I do believe my tone has improved. Coincidence.......?
The bromance is strong. Both huge inspirations. Peace!
Great player, great guy
JD is cool. And he essentially 'go through' all the parts that hold the strings in place. Beast mode cannot be turned off 😎
Love this interview Nik!
Great Video Nik! I lost it with That wink at 9:06! 😂
Loved this! Well done, fella’s🙌🤝
Great video. Would love to hang, smoke a few “cigars”, and talk guitars. 🍻
Does JD now stand for Jeff, the Dude (Lebowski) ? 😎🤘🏼I dig your (guitar) style, man!
Great interview and story about the guitar. Came here to hear the fuzz face though. Would have been sick to hear the guitar and fuzz face together. Suppose I can just look up the band he’s in.
Good peeps.
Great video! Thanks for sharing. Is that a Fender Bandmaster on top of the Quadreverb?
Sweet piece of history man! Awesome guitar! I love the outta phase setup. My les paul has it in the middle position too. Its an awesome tone. To think that es-335 was originally gloss at one time and the top just took on a satin look. I used to hate satin finishes but they just grew on me and im one of those people that believe it does effect the tone a bit. Just seems brighter and rings better than my gloss finish guitars in my opinion. Rock on!!
Great vid!!
JD needs to make another collectors choice or signature with Gibson ! Gibson! Come on!
JDEEEEEEEEEEE
Simo is top 3 modern blues players to me. Just killer feel, tone, everything's there. So much love and respect. 🎸🎶🍺
That wasn't a 'No' about the psychedelic cigars... 😎👍
I’m heavy set with a beard...don’t the chops just magically appear...LOL
So was JD saying that he doesn’t have grooves in his saddles at all? Just the string tension keeps them in place?
I have a es 135 and a Reverend Pete Anderson hollowbody...with bigsby...
So i fall into the “it’s awesome” camp then. But i am biased when it comes to 335’s though...
that guitar is awesome, but I wouldn't touch it without a hazmat suit.
💜
I'm a die hard Cubs fan but it hurt me to see a sticker on such a classic. LOL! It's weird how I don't mind to see a beat up Strat or Tele but it kinda hurts to see a non perfect 335.
DuckTalesWooHoo1987 I doubt hes concerned about resale value.
Great interview, I’a big fan, but stop the presses! Strings just sitting on the saddles with no groove?! That’s interesting!
"Stop the presses"? What does this mean? What is "presses"?
What is it that causes the nut to wear down? I don’t know if I’ve heard that happening.
Strings in the slot moving back and forth during bends
I had a cheap Chinese nut shear right through once, brutal!
whats up with the W?
I don't understand burning through nuts and saddles twice a year, how does *this happen?
Playing the shit out of it
What amps is he running now Nik?
Hmmm.. i wonder if hes a cubs fan? Lol
Once you're a mature player, the adult in the band, and can't be bothered with all those flashy metal axes anymore, there are always two guitars waiting for you to accompany you into retirement. On the Gibson side it's the ES-335 and in the Fender camp it's the good ole Tele. You don't need any other guitar!
Orca Flotta except the mighty Les Paul
@@Fandao19 Naaaw, the LP is a show off for hair rockers, not for musicians. If you include the LP into my very small elite group we could as well accept the Strat and the Jazzmaster. And that's exacty what I try to avoid. I'm looking for the one guitar I would take to a lonely island exile. And that guitar is deffo not the LP, under no circumstance!
If they allow me to take an amp, I take the Tele, if not then it's the 335.
@@orcaflotta7867: An ES-335 over a good Les Paul? I think you might be in the minority there. And stating that a Les Paul is for 'show off hair rockers, not for musicians' is just about the most bizarre thing I've ever heard. Tell that to Peter Green, Mike Bloomfield, Paul Kossoff, Duane Allman, Jimmy Page, Gary Moore...the list goes on. By what criteria are those players not musicians?
Orca Flotta Les Pauls have one of the most beautiful tones known to man kind imo, the sound of blues

"you might be in the minority there"
1) You're the only one complaining so actually it's 50/50
2) Didn't know this was a popularity contest
I guess you really didn't get my first post, right? I was talking about two guitars a mature player would take to the island or save from a burning building. Mentioning the ES was just professional courtesy, as usually I wouldn't even waste a single thought on anything Gibson. But inside Gibson's line-up the ES is the most adorable guitar, just makes more sense and is more versatile than the one-trick pony LP.
Of all the guitar heroes you mentioned I actually liked none.I guess Jimmy Page is okay, but I always hated his sound. Also did you know he did most of Zep's studio recordings on a Tele? Yeah, he was the guy who made even a Tele sound bad. :o
whatt's jd talking about sadles in the bridge i don't get it

@@theriffwniksevigny5473 ohh ok, is it better then the ones with grooves in them ? or is the diference not worth caring ?
Lol it's almost shocking how crusty that guitar is in comparison to my dad's cherry-ass 355 but I think I like it better that way! What is wrong with me...
Omg what is JD done to himself.
Great player for sure.but he keeps hitting this nice old guitar with his ring LoL.. just saying
Mike McKenna gives it character.
Why??...don't you polish it?...The guitar has been so good for you and to you...WHY NOT...be 'good' to the guitar?aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
This guys on drugs......
Aren't we all?
Great video
