My son and I were out riding. He has a Thundercat and I have a 01 FZ1. 750 suzuki pulls up beside us with the big tire kit. We're cruising 75 on open 4 lane road. He pulls out ahead and runs up to 90. I eased up beside him nodded my head and shifted to 4th. He twisted the throttle and down shifted to third and didn't look back until I bumped 6th. Needless to say it was definitely no match. He did out run the Thundercat though.

Then you're not riding it well enough, with my gen 1 fzs1000 i keep up with everyone, apart from the 600 sports bikes, but I've almost got there, easily, on long straights & short twisties, but you need to mod it with a taller screen, lower fairings, performance air filter and aftermarket exhaust, the only thing i haven't done yet is fitted Ivan's jet kit, but at the moment i don't really need it, it copes with everything. 100/120, not a problem, 140/150 different story, the wind starts coming in at all angles

People sleep on the fz1 but it's not a bike to take likely, I've had mine for about 6 months and it's been a blast to ride and it has hurt some feelings, it's not the fastest bike I've had but once I get my turbo installed it will be a 200hp plus bike and then it will be the fastest bike I've owned.
All 2006 and up liter bike super sports will outrun the 2nd gen fz1. The gixxer 750 is almost a dead even match for the fz1 though (at least in a straight line).
A 2nd Gen FZ1 with a pipe, PCV, & a gear change will run high 9's in the 1/4. It doesn't take much cash to wake an FZ1 up. I do however think that the fixer 750 with a Bazzaz fuel/traction/shift module makes the perfect track bike for the money.

its somehow fair ^_^ fz1 is stronger than that suzuka :D couse of 1kcc r1 old engine ^_^ but it has shorter gears detuned r1 engine ^_^ less speed :D like 600 :D fz1 is like stock or good 750cc bike :D u can play with 600 supersports with fz1 all day every day :D (like i am doin with my 08') :D

From 0 to about 100mph it's pretty even. 100 plus is where higher horsepower makes a difference. 1000cc supersports are lighter and have higher HP. When your FZ is reaching its top end limit all liter supersports will continue to pull away but if you are racing street light to street light you will be pretty even.

929 handles so well. Best handling bike I've ridden. So good on bad roads, surprisingly good.

the fz1 has low speed advantage due to its gearing. A sport bike has high speed advantage. My fz1 can match a zx10r up UNTIL 100mph...then it flies by

Not a fair race at all. The FZ1 on a roll will will walk from most bikes in the liter class. Comparing it to a 750 isn't much of a race.
