Great video - by the way, it’s Leviathan (as correctly written on the map) and not “Lavithan” as you have referred to it and you have in the video title. Leviathan is a sea serpent mentioned in the Holy Bible - keep up the exploring! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leviathan. 🚢🇬🇧🚂⛏ (my signature)

The metal box is a man cage used in vertical shafts to hoist or lower men and material.

Thanks Mike there was another one that was blocking the top of a vertical shaft didn't film it and wasn't going to close to it but gathered what it was.

They got them in by bullock teams. The mill is a hammer mill. The reason they are sinking is possible mine collapse.

actually not this one.. A team of 8 horses delivered this one. As this boiler came from the Bobby Burns mine near the Royal Standard mine. I have a book coming out on this mine soon and have a heap of documents, mien reports and detaield newspaper reports on where and how it was delivered.

Generally the process would involve following the gold in water bodies to the source. Panning up rivers until the gold stops. Then try and find a visible reef. Sometimes you could find quartz reefs themselves, then have the ore assayed, IE refined and measured. The reef may be further up the hill, they would often drive in a haulage adit below where they wanted to work, then dig up into the ore body so that gravity brings the ore down.

The cams lift the hammer up and they free fall crushing the rock. They don’t push down

The boiler created steam to eventually drive the hammer mill amongst other machinery
